  • Initially, I described this herd as wild. A subsequent encounter with them has convinced me that they are domestic horses, let out to pasture – not wild at all! Canon 350D / Tamron 55/200mm

  • This little pony has come all the way from Dartmoor, to live in Norfolk. He is a wild pony, they have been brought to Norfolk, where they are trying to get the environment like it used to be many hundreds of years ago, where the horses roamed wild and kept the grass down! I believe there are around 20 of these ponys there. Nikon D70s

Lakin and Diane and Roger Stanton / Trained by Steven M. Asmussen / Jockey: Brian J. Hernandez / Results: finished 1st Camera: Canon Rebel XT w/ Canon 75-300mm lens / as is, from the camera, just cropped in photoshop Weather: Very cloudy… track was a mess until Race 6 when it was upgraded to “good.” Panning shot of the winner of Race 5. Loved how I caught the jockey biting his lip. For anyone who knows me, you know I do that while riding, too. Bad habits die hard. Once I managed to bite down over a jump on my old pony in a riding lesson and I nearly bit through my tongue! I am passionate about all horses, but have always had a dream to own and train my own racehorses someday. It probably won’t happen until I retire, if it does happen, but that’s the fun thing about dreams… you can have them even if they aren’t likely to happen. Although, I have been trying to get a plan together for getting friends together after college graduation to go in and buy a share of a racehorse with my boyfriend and I… so maybe it’ll happen sooner than I think :0) Thanks for your views and comments friends! My first attempt at horse racing photography. Enjoy! ♥ Louisville, Kentucky

  • Came upon this horse frollicking on his own. It was so beautiful to watch.

  • These are probably the wildest most free horses I have seen since the wild horses of Namibia. / They live on a nature reserve with all the other animals and their companion was a zebra.

I just found out today my beloved wild horse herd was rounded up without my knowledge. I went out last weekend and could not find one horse. I thought that they may have went through the fence at Dugway Proving Grounds and they were on the Army Base. They frequently did this and sometimes you were unable to find them. According to the BLM the horses don’t have enough food or water to sustain themselves. If you have seen my pictures of the horses you can see just how much land these animals have. The Onaqui Herd Management Area (HMA) is located 40 air miles southwest of Salt Lake City. The HMA extends from Johnson’s Pass south to Lookout Pass. Wild horses can be seen on the bench and flat areas along the east and west side of the mountain range. The HMA contains 43,880 acres of Federal, State, and privately owned land. You tell me how can this not be enough land to sustain these horses? They are planning on only putting 30 horses back!!! My question is if the BLM does not have enough money to sustain these horses in the wild how can they have enough money to corral them and feed them for however long it takes to find them a home or EUTHANIZE them? I really did not think this was going to affect me this way but I am very hurt. I will not be going out for a very long time to photograph the horses.
