A collection of manipulated spirograph images.
The parametric equation for one of the shapes associated with spirographs along with an example. The variable “a” is the radius of the first circle that the second one “b” revolves around (think planets). The “b” value is the radius of the circle on the outside that turns on the edge of the middle circle. The variable T is kind of like the step. As the graph moves, the T controls how far the values are placed apart (i.e. you could have a straight line, skipping all the points in between, or you could plot the whole curve). The variable “p” is the pen offset. When it is equal to “b”, the pen starts at the edge of the smaller circle.

Inspired by the wonderful poem of the same name by my dear friend Sally Omar THE MERRY-GO-ROUND Up and down..up and down / Remembering being a child / Instincts so wild / Loving that thrilll / And yet chill / Of up and down..up and down / And round..round..round / No one ever explained to me / What the future would be / The same as THE MERRY-GO-ROUND / Up and down .. up and down / Thought life would be a strait path / Mustn’t have known too much math / It didn’t turn out that way / Life not on a steady ride / We slip..we slide..slip and slide / One day life puts you on easy street / The next day you can accomplish no feat / You can be rich one day / The next it’s all taken away / You can find love / Thank the Powers above / The next day love goes / Life no longer a rose / Your job can be a blast / Next day you leave..it’s in the past / So I would have to equate / Everyone’s life up to this date / As THE MERRY GO ROUND / Going Up and down..Up and down Please visit Sally’s page / and read more of her creative writing – you will be amazed! x

A woman in a bright orange dress looks out over the backwaters in Kerala, India. That is a banana tree she is standing next to. Not only is it’s fruit delicious and sweet (much better than the crappy bananas we get in Melbourne), but the large leaves are used as plates for eating spicy ‘thali’ throughout Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I would like to have framed this a little differently, but it was taken from a moving boat, and only seen at the last second.
The Prime Meridian is the line at 0º longitude from which both International and Universal time is measured on Earth. The line runs through the centre of the Peter Harrison Planetarium at The Royal Observatory, Greenwich and is shown here running through the roof which is angled to point directly at the North Star and match the plane of the Universal Equator. /

Albert Einstein (German: ˈalbɐt ˈaɪ̯nʃtaɪ̯n ; English: IPA: /ˈælbɝt (-ət) ˈaɪnstaɪn/) (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist. He is best known for his theory of relativity and specifically mass–energy equivalence, expressed by the equation E = mc2. Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics “for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect.” Einstein published over 300 scientific works and over 150 non-scientific works In 1999 Time magazine named him the “Person of the Century”, and according to Einstein biographer Don Howard, “to the scientifically literate and the public at large, Einstein is synonymous with genius. Tee developed usıng Chaoscope. A fractal is generally “a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,”a property called self-similarity. The term was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning “broken” or “fractured.” Images of fractals can be created using fractal generating software.
