This child watched through a broken window as we worked inside. It’s times like this when the natural, uncontrived symbolism of circumstance just presents itself to you and all you have to do is click. There was not pretence, no staging, no crap. Just reality. It still engages me now. Look at his eyes. What is he thinking? He’s aching. He is full on aching. How can I help them more, how can I help them more, how can I help them more… Please give if you can or pass it on to someone else. That’s giving too. All proceeds to charity. NOW AVAILABLE AS A CHRISTMAS CARD! /

Scarification is a means of permanently marking the skin by cutting alone, without the use of pigments. The scars may be lighter or darker than your original skin tone and may raise up (keloid scarring). There are many ways to produce a scar but the cut must always penetrate the dermis if a scar is to be produced. The result depends as much on your skin as the method used. Black skin in particular is very good at producing pronounced keloid scars and this is a popular alternative to tattooing for people with very dark skin, for whom a tattoo might not show up very well. In many parts of Africa these scars are marks of beauty and a way to identify someone belonging to a particular group. Scarification also may mark one’s status as a civilized being, adult, or member of a specific ethnic group or initiation association. I spend a day in his school in a remote village of Benin to work on the Art in All of Us activities (www.artinallofus.org). I had really a great time thanks to the kids creativity. Please see some of their works on Benin Gallery ! hope you enjoy !! All proceeds from sales of pictures will go to the art education project of Art in All of Us (WWW.ARTINALLOFUS.ORG)

The model in this pic was experiencing her first fully nude shoot. Whilst she admired the shots she had seen in my portfolio and really wanted to do it she was very scared. Her boyfriend had pressured her not to do it and she felt that society may judge and brand her. So it took enormous courage for her to go through with the shoot. On the day she commented on feeling so free and so beautiful within. I think this particular shot depicts the joy that can come from choosing our heart over our fears. This woman ruined a lot of otherwise very good films. But sometimes I like her, because when I get thoroughly livid about everything she serves to remind me that nothing has really changed, either in the media or, based on the alleged post mortem fact that five men had sex with her after she died, with the rest of the world. The sharper of you will appreciate the style of the image now.

Used to wear this slogan, hand-painted, on an army surplus tee. Thought it would be a nice little act of subversion to print it across the boobs in a typically “babydoll” tee, and in a “fun” typeface. Now I’ll wear this one.
