  • Experimentation with Make-up during an art class. / No particular inspiration for this one, however this is for my Yr 12 Art Folio. / My theme is based around Beauty, and one of the sub-themes i’m exploring is what real beauty is and I’m focusing on those ‘Before and After’ shots that models and celebrities do not want you to see ! / I took a photo of myself and edited it to buggery (god I love photoshop!) / Here’s the before Yep, I’m ugly. Told ya! / Anyway, there’ll be more of this sort of manipulation and ‘perfectionist’ work along the way through my folio. • As I promised you here another shot from my sunrise trip to the Southern Heath near Hilversum. Indeed was rewarded more than abundantly for my early rising that morning. The low night temperature, the stillness of the air and the clear sky had caused a good level of low morning morning mist in the open land of the heath (on next morning I was going to discover that it was even mistier in polderland – but please keep patient). / Ah, that morning sun! Filling your soul with its magnificent light! Ever so invigorating to experience it, but also so hard a challenge in June! After all the sun rises here at about 5.15 am at the moment (in autumn, winter, and spring the challenge is a lot easier!). But the reward: an empty heath! Just you and the sun! And the rabbits of course! Though most oft hem had sprinted to their covers! Lucky ones: they can enjoy all the sunrises! May we conclude: Be a rabbit! Rise early! After all did not my mother teach me already: “Early to be, early to rise, makes a man happy, wealthy and wise.“ / Let me add. Not being a rabbit I am so grateful to you all! Without you I would never have discovered these sunrises and developped the new habit of sunrise-chasing, but would just be keeping my head on the pillow or piddling around the house. Whenever I tell some friend that there is nothing like a June sunrise at 5 am, they find me pretty crazy. What do they know? They do not have all my wonderful fans on deviantArt en Redbubble who make me go out so early and who enjoy my pictures afterwards. Well, if I succeed to get some good shots. So here is the challenge! Near Hilversum, 12th June 2009, 5.36 am / Nikkon D80, Nikkor 18-200 at 130 mm / F 16, 1/80, ISO 100

  • mixed media (metallic acrylic paint, printing ink and inks) on wash&draw paper A3 / .. inspired by conversation with DAMcD and some Roy Skogvold’s works / .. visual contemplation on the nature of ‘sin’ as being an integral part of our human make up … symbolism of bronze/gold/silver colour to accentuate the preciousness ( preciousness of the perceived value we often attach to our sinful preoccupations as well as preciousness intended for our bodies) ... bright colors for a loving design … blots and drips to symbolize the tainting of the otherwise perfect relationship between the Creator and the Creature …... / ... there is a traditional categorization of sins … these days perhaps rather outdated by realization that sin as such does not really hold some exact categories …. nevertheless I am upholding – very loosely – these categories for the sake of series of images on this theme …. armed with my sons ‘atlas of human anatomy’ .... looking more closely and lovingly onto “the clay” we are all made up of …..

  • The Weight of Chains They don’t always clank, these chains. Not like in the ghost stories. / They don’t always warn you of the evil in the room. / Sometimes they whisper, lovers close by your ear, cupping your chin and promising fidelity. / Sometimes they chatter, chipmunks in the grass, warning of predators. / Sometimes they coax you to wear them, grifters at your feet, telling tales of riches. They weigh on you, these chains. / You think you wear none? / Do you believe? / Do you hope? / Do you love? / Do you dream? / Do you eat? / Do you sleep? / Do you hate? / Do you envy? / Are you human? / Then you are in chains. / Break free of all of them and you’re dead. / Some are better than others, though. / Chains of love can weigh light like the flutter of an eyelash. / Chains of hope can weigh so little they carry you to other worlds. But some chains will crush you before you can feel them. / Hate. / Prejudice. / Those chains have no mercy. And some weigh what you weigh. They are you, your body. You feel them only when you fight them. Weightless, then? / Only at peace. I didn’t plan to upload this today because I’m behind in visiting you guys and replying, and I don’t want anyone to think I’m being rude. But I need to get it off my computer before I panic and throw it out. It’s YELLING at me. Well, OK, not really. But it’s a visceral reaction I’m having. It’s making me want to tear apart my life and rebuild it in better ways. Wow. Anyway, it’s seven photo images and some digital painting, combined and edited in Photoshop Elements 3. /
