The air they breathe / Lungs that heave / A toxic gas / Of deadly mass
What kind of planet will be left for our children?
At least my conscience is clear
A politician is a person whose job is to convince the public that what is good for corporations & big business is good for you. . .
Words are in my heart and soul too, / Yet mute I scream to you. / The Earth is dying by our hand. / Its time to make a stand.
This poem seemed to write itself, and encompasses fragmented parts of about 11 poems I have penned over the last 7 years or so, while still having elements all of its own. The strong use of metaphors and their meanings may or may not be clear; there is a powerful story between the lines. I wont say any more, but questions are welcomed. Cheers. :)
Mum? Why do they spear whales? It looks like it hurts. / And why’s that boat spilling oil? The seals are getting sick.
Written for the Gaia – The Living Planet Competition
what if we make some simple changes to our daily activity? / You too can help in some small way to save the Earth! /
“It has been bucketing down here. Flooding everywhere. Roof leaking like you wouldn’t believe”.
Until she was given no choice but to ring the bell in the church steeple / Her happiness has turned to shattered glass and broken memories…
This is about an ederly lady that has been put away by others in a rest home. Although she is a little shocked, bewildered, and desperate, she is also full of acceptance, hope, and all sorts of spunk and creativity. She might not have control over certain parts of her life or her environment, however she still has control over her mind and her positive output. No matter what she receives, be it negative or positive, she tries to make it something positive through creation or production. A reflection and conveyance of the negative and positive energies she is experiencing. You might think that she has given up the battle of life, but she hasn’t not at all. That confused, bemused look on her face is because she is pondering what her next writing or painting will be about. She is to be admired for her perseverance and strength. She is old, sick, and feeble, but when many others give up and stop living, she finds reasons to keep creating. It is all in your outlook. She is an inspiration.
why don’t we learn from past!

To many years of over irrigating / Unviable exotic crops of rice and cotton / It is not just the river dieing / The land is left totally rotten
The Murray, Darling river system is one of the biggest in the world. Years of over irrigation and a neglected channel system ( which loses 70% of its’ water through seepage and evaporation ), are killing the river. It has not flowed into the ocean in many years. The government want to pipe more water to Melbourne and Adelaide to feed industry, and are talking about just letting the lakes and wetlands at its’ mouth just die. / Cockies, is Australian slang for farmers on large properties
If we do not look at her in this way, who will?

Skeletal frames, once submerged litter / Lay side by side with previously organic opposites
The river Torrens (well creek really) was one reed filled and teaming with life of fish, reptiles, insects and aquatic mammals. I walked past it a few hours ago and saw that it had been drained to puddles and minitaure ponds. I was told that this was all due to an increasing Algae problem affecting the waterways and it was drained overnight due to an electrical fault in the weir that opened and drained it in 2 hours. I caught the train afterwards and even full of loud obnoxious school kids I was so focused penning this down it never left me untill I was satisfied wth it. I cannot begin to explain how angry this has made me towards our government for poor enviromental choices and also towards my community that I feel do shit all towards the enviroment. A half arsed attempt at recycling is not enough Australia!
