I was in the affluent suburb in Beverly Hills and noticed adjacent to expensive boutiques, stores and high rent offices was an untended botanical garden. I was not familar with the kinds of plants, but knew many were dying and the contrast of this neglected garden with the opulance of Rodeo Drive and well groomed people was striking. It looked like an alien landscape, but it quickly transcended in my mind to a visual feast of color, texture, light and became an imaginative delight. I hope you enjoy my magical interpretation of what was once a botanical paradise. This is a photo of one of the old trees. sparce with wonderful form highlighted by the enveloping clouds. It was a cold and crisp day and as sundown came upon us as the misty clouds gave way to a spectacular sunset. This particular tree had a spiritual essence with the central figure’s arms raised towards the heavens. Sally Omar’s poetry adds another dimension to the “spirit tree.” She infuses her beautiful and elegant spirit with words to pair this image with her lovely and beautiful writing. They wait very patiently / Arms wrapped around SPIRIT TREE / Somberly they are there / They can’t go anywhere / Souls that are left and cannot retrieve / Anything that they believed / Will they ever be let free / From the beautiful SPIRIT TREE / An Angel with wings of gold / Will come ever so bold / And grab their hands / And bring them to Spiritland / There they will again / Walk with old friends / And find a resting spot / Something they had forgot / When you pass the SPIRIT TREE / Remember none are free / This may be the place where you will go / No one ever knows / And should you be one day be there / You will have to say a prayer / So the Angel will come for you / And fly you to Spiritland too / SPIRIT TREE /

This is a mixed media piece that is one half of a two part series. / I was exploring how people “send themselves” to the world. How they send themselves (act) is often very different to how they feel about themselves. I also was exporing the impermenance of life and that goodbyes to those you love are inevitable. Nothing is certain. P.S. I entered this artwork into the Young at Art, Young Australian Artist of the Year awards and have gotten into the finals and am waiting on the results.

yes, part of the art deco series-I was in pattern mode. Pink, pattern and envelope yellow-all part of my ‘complement people’s interior living’ series. I was seriously into interior decorating- if only I’d got this out when grandma chic was in! Maybe it’s still retro enough to look good in your house! I could change the colours to be more art noveau. up to you….

This is the John Oliver Place as seen from Cades Cove Loop Rd.,GSMNP.John Oliver arrived in the park before 1820.I had a sence of how lonely they may of been when taking this shot, and how everyday was a challenge for survival. This put into perspective of how small we really are.

An entry for the Flash Fiction Group’s Back of an Envelope challenge. We needed to write the story as something urgent that had been written on an envelope, in less than 150 words. The only reason I write on paper is if I’m going somewhere and need that message left in the real world…

My entry for the Flash Fiction Groups Back of an Envelope challenge. If this seems familiar, I posted a longer version a while ago. This has been edited down for the challenge which is an interesting one since the new challenge software doesn’t accept writing – soooo, we are asked to submit our work like this. Interesting….and kinda fun.
