  • FROM THE FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY OF WENDY BANDURSKI-MILLER

  • “They found that they were looking at a most extraordinary face. It belonged to a large Man-like, almost Troll-like, figure, at least fourteen foot high, very sturdy, with a tall head and hardly any neck. Whether it was clad in stuff like green and grey bark, or whether that was its hide, was difficult to say.” JRRTolkien, The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings Inspired by the same.

  • This was taken yesyerday at the local cemetery. When I looked at this tree I was reminded of the Ents in Lord of The Rings. Canon EOS 400D.

  • Taken in Brandon Hill Bristol.

  • Fear not, for he watches the forests all, / Guardian of trees, the short and the tall, / The leafless, the evergreen, the pine and the gum, / Arise now, the spirit of the trees is come. A tree ‘growth’. At first I thought it was a carving and was not going to photograph it. But then I found it was the way the tree had grown, and it only appeared this way at a particular distance and angle. Then, I knew, I had captured a nature spirit if ever there was one :)

  • Fictional race of humanoid trees, which have been inspired by the talking trees of many of the world’s folklores and fantasy authors.

  • the tree in this photo may be as old as 400 to 500 hundred years it is a myrtile beech

  • Outside the North Star Mine in Grass Valley, California USA (sigh) OK, I have to come clean on this one. My guide say it immediately and after chatting with the incredible docent at the mine’s museum, she went right to these trees and started shooting. If she hadn’t told me – even then – what she was shooting at, I never would have known. LOL! Worse, when she walked away, I became interested in them too but was sorta embarrassed to shoot them then (Male pride and all, ya know). But she was looking and I wanted the shot badly enough so I sucked it up and went for it. Thanks for the nice comments on the capture. She’ll be thrilled, the brat. PS Thanks Joak for reminding me of the obvious. ;-)

  • Poster illustration for an upcoming dubstep gig in Wellington ‘Grounded’ I was required to interpret and illustrate a massive tree-giant type fellow lumbering away (pun intended heh heh!) from a destroyed tower of some sort, from a very basic vector illustration which the client supplied. • Light sneaked beside his bed. The birds / began their insistent questioning / of silence, and the poet’s words / prompted by daylight rasped his raw / nerves, and the waking world he saw / was flat with prose and would not sing. Gwen Harwood / _ Australian Ent portrait by Judith (hsien-ku), post-processing by me.

  • In twilight times and mists of minds, / The Grey Ghosts do walk the lands, / Seldom seen, they walk between, / The night and dark of Man.

  • Captured this shot in the gardens of the Arizona Inn in Tucson, AZ. I was stuck by how like a gardener’s hands this tree’s roots appeared. Then from somewhere in my scratchy memory came the Ent (tree people from, I think, The Lord of the Rings). So added a couple of layers for the deep woods effect. Shot with Panasonic Lumix FZ-18

  • acrylics/watercolors-11” x 14”-2008 / “face” / “face”

  • A photograph taken of a gnarled old tree in the middle of Savernake forest in Wiltshire, England early in the Autumn. The colours of the leaves and the fern are still deep and golden. This photograph captures all the reasons of why Autumn is my favourite season.
