”... for the times, they are a-changin’...” In With The New / It seems wholly appropriate to quote the masterful Bob Dylan for this, the latest edition of BubbleWRAP, because things are indeed changing. RedBubble is about creativity, inspiration and expression; about finding and re-igniting the secret passion you had when you were a child; about sharing your artistic endeavors and knowledge; about learning more and connecting with others; or simply being imaginative. Now, when RedBubble started out, we created BubbleWRAP as a way to connect our members and their stories – we would share with everyone what we found to be inspiring and noteworthy. Well now it’s time to turn the tables and hand over the reigns… that’s right – BubbleWRAP is now yours! We want YOU – the RedBubble Community – to drive the inspiration and creative content of BubbleWRAP. We want you to share with us everything that excites your inner child or anything that inspires your creative pursuits. They can be in any form that you find them, be it images or designs, stories or interviews, poetry or tshirts, quotes or collaborations – the list is endless. We want BubbleWRAP to become a showcase of your brilliance. This issue is the first attempt, so please support it and help us to improve the offering. Send any entries (such as image and tee reviews, member interviews or inspiring stories) to: / tom@redbubble.com Thanks must go to Sasufi, Evangeline, TBO & Danny for making this issue possible. Tom.

It’s a little disheartening after spending a week on an image to have so few people actually look at it. 40 views in three days, and most of them from me. I think most of those that did look at it have commented and I appreciate that but then I see something apparently whipped up in half an hour in Poser with a gazillion comments and favs. It seems pointless even bothering when you’re not willing to pimp your stuff in the forums. It used to be so good here, I was so inspired. Admittedly I was spoilt by having a few things featured but that’s very rare now, and never with anything new. I can’t even find any groups where my work would really belong. The new content guidelines was just icing on the cake.

  • Doorway to heaven
    by Meach

    US$4.28–US$114.00

This is the picture that is being used as the cover of this year’s Mid-Wales Tourism Brochure. On the back page it says: ‘Cover picture David Meacham’ – how posh is that? I’m proud to say that out of 90 pictures used in the brochure 51 are mine – weeeeeeehagh. Do I sound excited – you bet I am – I’ve been sitting on this for a fortnight waiting for the brochure to hit the Tourism Centres before I was allowed to upload it The doorway pictured is at Tretower Court, Near Crickhowell, Powys. Information here Tretower

  • And so the series begins, The Doors of Santa Fe / I simply loved New Mexico and the city of Santa Fe is of no exception…..around every curve and corner, there were photo-opps and one thing that really caught my eye was how the Adobe architecture had all these really old doors….crafted 100s of years ago. The doors, while not always straight and often far from it, provided a nice contrast in color, design, and history to the buildings they often adorned. Thoughts most welcomed! / —John

What a dazzling start to the RedBubble Real Photography Competition! Over 800 entries already, from all over the planet. We’re looking forward to seeing even more as the competition continues through until August 24. However, an important reminder: only one entry per category If you got multiple entries in a category, please choose your best one and remove the competition tag from the others. Otherwise you won’t be eligible to win any of the cool prizes.

It appeals to me to make a video of Red Bubble artworks into a video to go on You Tube and other video sites to try and promote our bubbles. I’d like to include works of other Bubblers here on Red Bubble to the video as well. Everyone who contributes some work will have their name / user name / location shown with their work. The video will consist of our works with titles / credits, frame transitions and musical accompaniment. Depending on the response I could make more videos later. Initially let’s say the first 20 people to post a comment to this journal entry will have 3 pieces go in the video.Work goes in the video in order of comment in the cue. (my 3 pieces first since I’m making the vid, k?) No charge, no entry fee, no prizes, just permission to use your work in this manner and the hope of expanding our horizons. (..and a copy of the wmv file / for anyone who wants to pass it around) What do you say? Shall we give it a go?

  • Making an image show up in a journal entry or forum post

Go to an image that you want to display in a journal post and right-click on it, then select “Copy image location”- Now go and open a journal entry (or forum post or whatever) and paste the link in there. It will look something like this: Now, just add an exclamation mark before and after the image and you are done adding an image. Now you can add text and other images and save the work and your image will show up. For Internet Explorer users: 1. Right-click on the image and go to properties. Then: 2. highlight and copy all of that text and then paste it into your journal entry or forum post. 3. Add the exclamation mark before and after the link as shown above. 4. Add other text and images and you should be able to save and see your pictures! —-—-—-—-—-——- Trying to do this using Safari: Here is an image I loaded. I right-clicked and chose “Copy Image Address”. Let’s see if this works:

Sorry I’ve been so quiet lately, it’s because I’ve been doing research on Red Bubble. / These are my findings. / According to data obtained there are currently / 21,035 geniuses on this site. / 125,536 comments that state – if popular text short hand is to be believed – that they “Laughed out loud” and 56,215 “Rolled on the floor laughing their fucking arses (asses) off” Many of these were in the same comment. Thus making Red Bubble one of the most humorous sites on the WWW. / There were 1,236.984 thank you comments just yesterday; the yearly total is currently passing the upper limits of human comprehension of counting as we know it. / There were 55 writing pieces posted, 42 of these poetry that has 5 words per line regardless whether the sentence was finished. 40 of these were about relationships, the other two were something about fish. Of the other 13- 6 were about a funny husband/children/pet/situation. 5 were about selling cards (?) and two were blank (obviously newbies getting the hang of the place). / There were 75 journals posted, the majority about being featured, selling a card or apologizing for their absence. The rest were links to shit no one cares about the author thinks they were the first to discover of diatribes about stuff no one really cares about. / There were 1,030,056 pieces of art uploaded which helped the tally of thank you reaching it’s dazzlingly heights. / 25 Tee Shirts were added with designs that were stolen from zazzle,DBH,threadless, ect (and visa versa) There were 2 complete sets of horoscope Tees posted and 17 different slogan tees referring to the latest Batman movie. / I t was at this point I lapsed into a coma and have only recently recovered. / Thank you , please add any additional findings below.

  • My Entry In the PhotoShop Masters Group - Kurt Tutschek
    by Kurt Tutschek

    The chosen image: / !http://images-1.redbubble.com/img/art/border:blackwithdetail/product:laminated-print/size:small/view:preview/614849-1…

The chosen image: / 1: Tell me something about the image? / It all started with a small scratch on a sheet of paper. A ladder standing in the water, some clouds and a girl reaching for the night sky. I liked the idea and began to collect the images neeeded. Own stock and stuff from sxc. 2: How did you create it? ( you don’t have to give away any secrets ) / Started with the background (water) – added a new sky – added the planet – put the ladder into the water – placed the girl into the image – added the clouds – added the stars. / The rest? A lot of blending, color matching, dodging and burning. / And remember: the smudge tool is your friend – with this tool you can blend different parts of the image quite convincingly. 3: What version of PhotoShop did you use? / CS2 4: Any tips or tricks you would like to share? / - always work non destructively, use layers and layer masks – aka: the eraser tool is not your friend ;) / if you’ve never tried the smudge tool, do so! It’s really great for blending (as said before) / - if you’re into collages/montages: take your camera and shoot. Take photos of everything. textured walls, autumn leaves, a pile of rubbish, clouds during sunset, dirty pavements, your feet, colorful caterpillars, broken windows… you’ll never know what you will need tomorrow. 5: How did you go about learning PhotoShop? / I started with PS6 – self taught. A lot of trial and error. ;-) Interview by Randy Monteith

I am so sorry it took awhile to post this. I am getting ready for a trip to Cancun and have been frantically scrambling to get things done. / This was quite the hard contest to judge. Several people entered images that were made with layers (only basic photo editing was allowed) and several entered more than one entry (only one entry per person). Sadly, I had to disqualify some really good entries due to not following the rules. Once again, I had so many excellent entries that I have spent days wringing my hands trying to figure out a winner. With thanks to Diane my sister for helping me judge this. / Before I announce the winners, for those of you interested, we are trying to put together a calender for the Blue Moon Contest and another one for the Moon Contest. Since calenders are new, the details are being worked out. Let me know if you would be interested in these calenders. They are trying to decide how they would divide up the payment to the artist for each picture. / Anyway, with out any further babbling, here are the winners: First Place goes to: Paul Tait’s “Full Moon” The 2 second place winners are: Mungo Lunette at full moon by Cheryl Ridge Solitude by Lumineux The 5-3rd place winners are: Moon Shadow by Joan Smart Moon Storm by Paul Jeston Last Nights Moon by SuniPruett .......... by misschristina95 In Earth’s Shadow by Mark Greenmantle A big congratulations to the winners!! Prizes are as follows: / First place: A large size mounted print of their entry (if the winning entry is not large enough for the large size, they will get the next size down) / Two 2nd place winners: Large laminated prints of their entries. / Five 3rd place winners: Each will receive a card of their entry.
