The Postman Butterfly is poisonous and it comes from South America. There are many forms of this butterfly and they are rather hard to recognise from each other because of their very similar markings. It´s catterpillars feed on passion flowers. Photographed in Butterfly Gardens in Knokke-Heist.

a female bluebird brings home a juicy spider for her hungry youngsters. always cautious, she surveys the area before delivering the treat.
an owl butterfly rests on a post in the butterfly conservatory in niagara by the lake, Ontario, Canada.
This is the better shot, I think. I went back after a while to see if the bug was still there, and he was. So I used the macro setting and got the lens to within a few inches of him. I saw his legs move so he was definitely alive. But why he didn’t fly away remains a mystery. Maybe he’s a she laying eggs or whatever. The two features that strike me most are the very large eyes, and the long narrow body that looks like a totem pole. This is the kind of detail you don’t normally see when they’re darting about the place. He’s quite cute, really… in a buggy sort of way. PS: He’s still there next morning! Taree NSW Australia. a beautiful monarch butterfly is brilliantly framed against a gorgeous blue sky. I shot this in my back yard, chasing him around until he finally landed on the butterfly bush, and stayed there long enough to snap this shot. Apparently the nectar was very sweet at this bush.
