The original photograph is in the public domain and can be found here / Josephine Baker was a burlesque performer in the 1920s. Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) was an American expatriate entertainer and actress. She became a French citizen in 1937. Most noted as a singer, Baker also was a celebrated dancer in her early career. She was given the nicknames the “Bronze Venus” or the “Black Pearl”, as well as the “Créole Goddess” in anglophone nations. In France, she has always been known as “La Baker”. Baker was the first African American female to star in a major motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States (she was offered the leadership of the movement by Coretta Scott King in 1968 following Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, but turned it down), for assisting the French Resistance during the Second World War and being the first American-born woman to receive the highest French military honor, the Croix de Guerre, and for being an inspiration to generations of African American female entertainers and others. • Beethoven the male Eclectus. A much loved pet of friends in Melbourne. So keen to give me a kiss he was sidling along a rope to get to me, not at all preturbed by the camera up his beak! Sales donated to the wildlife of Australia Pheonix fund. Camera EOS 50D / f /5.6 / 1/60 second / ISO 400 / Post edited in PS3 Eclectus Parrots are closely associated with lowland tropical rainforest. They can be found northernmost islands in Torres Strait and eastern Cape York Peninsula, north Queensland and New Guinea region, from the Moluccas and Lesser Sundra Island, Indonesia, to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. These birds are sexually dimorphic, which means you can visually tell the difference between the sexes. Males are bright green with red and blue under their wings, and have an orange beak. Females have a bright red head, a purple back and chest, and have a black beak. Thank you for looking.

  • One of the main elements involved in the (African) Yoruba divination system is the divination tray. This tray (Ifá) serves as the template on which sacred signs related to the personal concerns of a diviner’s client are traced as the point of departure for analysis. This time the idea was that of using this divination tray as a basic platform to display the main Orishas _ the African gods and goddesses_ and their peculiar attributes. / So this is basically a Cinema4D render, made in collaboration with artist Artpearl, who modelled the 3D divination tray. / Some visual effects were created and blended with Photoshop; there´s also a bit of digital painting. (CINEMA 4D is a commercial, cross-platform, high-end 3-D graphics application, produced by MAXON Computer, Germany. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—- “In Yoruba mythology, Shango is perhaps the most popular Orisha; he is a Sky Father, god of thunder and lightning. He is considered the center point of the religion as he represents the Oyo people of West Africa. / The energy given from this Deity is also a major symbol of African resistance against an enslaving European culture. He rules the color red and white; his sacred number is 6; his symbol is the oshe (double-headed axe), which represents swift and balanced justice. He is owner of the Bata (3 double-headed drums) and of music in general, as well as the Art of Dance and Entertainment.” / This image belongs to a series I´ve entitled “The Orishas Collection”. Main figure was obtained by changing morphs on M4; I modelled all clothing, props and accesories for this character. / You can find a brief on this Orisha by clicking here

  • Digital art inspired by the music in my life. This is the 2nd work in a series of musical themed art works I am working on. Some are mixed media. Some are digital. Here’s how it looks printed on canvas: /

  • One of several music-themed pieces I’ve been working on for the past few days. This is a digital piece using my 1922 sheet music, my photo of a piano and the silhouette came from Wikipedia Commons. I altered and enhanced the original silhouette digitally for this piece. Music has always been a big part of my life, so I thought it was time to bring some of my musical influences into my art work.

  • BEST VIEWED LARGE. :) One in my musical themed series I’ve been working on this past week. Inspired by the music in my life. I grew up in a musical family and get-togethers and/or holidays were often spent singing in the living room with various family members playing instruments. I’m sure the neighbors enjoyed it as well. :) Here’s how it looks matted & framed: /
