One of the first street shots I ever took back in 1964 in the East End of London. This was before Playstations, and probably the only ‘toy’ these kids shared between them was a skipping rope. Old bomb sites still held a fascination though as a form of amusement and exploration, as can be seen here. It was taken using a Yashica Mat 120 film twin lens reflex camera that took me six months to save up for. I used Tri-X B/W film and printed on a hard grade of paper to get the punchy contrast, a characteristic of all my early B/W work. This image was photographed digitally from the original print in my portfolio. © 1964 John Hooton Photography
Taken a few miles east of Leicester, near Allexton. Its that time in the UK, just before the wheat gets harvested – heavy heads beginning to nod gently under the weight of the grain, and the weather unable to decide whether it is summer or not, threatening to flatten the crop, just it is ready. Leicestershire is full of distant horizons like this, and the Barley is all but in now, much of the ground already having been put under the plough in readiness for the next crop.

This is a Very modern, new, contempary part of the Leeds City Centre, but seeing this flaky wall, you wouldnt think so. / It is a little stair-well connecting the back of the train station, ‘Princes Exchange’ with the new River Aire Water front, running parrallel with Whitehall road. / /
Abstract Macro Photography – Spacescape This is very close up of some plastic cement (?) between bricks of a building. / The building is British Gas on Armley Gyratory, Leeds.
Cromer Pier, from the town. Sony A700, 42 second exposure. This is a blend of 3 images, all of around the same exposure time, but with a variety of graduated filters fitted for each. The area on the forecourt of the pier has been desaturated slightly to reduce the sodium light effect from the clifftop lights

This is one of my own favourite paintings. I did it over 20 years ago and takes prode of place in my Lounge room. I painted it off a photo my dad took on my parents first trip. A few years later I was able to go there myself and find the spot and take my own picture, mine was not as appealing as dad’s as the mountains did not have the nice layered look as this one. Painted in Oils.

My first upload since my recent illness and not a new image but a place and subject I so enjoy. / A view of the harbour and outer wall in Polperro, Cornwall, how I am looking forward to going back there as soon as my health allows. / I can’t thank you all enough for the many kind messages and support during my recovery from the heart attack I suffered in August, it has been of great help and I am pleased to say, things are slowly improving and I am feeling much better but still quite a way to get back to my old fitness.
