I was on this beach today but it didn’t look like this, it was blowing a gale
An interesting little house in the Village of Wentworth
This is a bit of a deception.. I took the photo of the Standing Stone and then turned round to see this wonderful sky. I took a shot of the sky and then merged it onto my Standing Stone shot… at least they were taken on the same day and same spot.. just in opposite directions :-) MY OLD STANDING STONES SET
I’ve just driven home from York.. it was snowing… maybe tomorrow the North York Moors will look like this again. OLD STANDING STONES SET
One of the most beautiful (and famous) prehistoric sights in this wonderful planet of ours, Stonehenge sits in the English county of Wiltshire, a resounding final stamp on the beauty that makes up the English countryside in the Southwest region of the country. Believed to have been erected around 2500 BC, with an initial earth bank and ditch dated back to 3100 BC, recent discoveries have uncovered that Stonehenge served as an ancient burial ground. Though there has been theory after thoery in regards to the actual construction methods used to create Stonehenge, no “final verdict” on the question has ever been reached by archaeologists or historians. And since the culture that produced this legendary stone circle had no written language, we can only continue to wonder as to the true meaning of this absolutely magical place. I kind of like it that way. This shot was taken in late September in 2007. The time of day was around 9:15 a.m., which provided some quality light conditions and minimal crowds. We stayed for about 90 minutes, and by the time we left… the masses had already taken over. If you want to experience Stonehenge with minimal crowds, go early in the morning. Go as early as you can. And for crying out loud, don’t forget your camera.
One of many ruined buildings around the Peak District which provide a nice framing opportunity. Luckily this one had a lonely tree right in the right place to make a pleasing composition.
Gordale / The out flow of the river as it runs through the valley after cascading down the waterfall at Gordale Scare
I first visited Avebury on a day trip out of London in 2004. I had never heard of the site, but it was included in a tour to Stonehenge and Salisbury. Ironically, it’s a larger stone complex from the same prehistoric age in Britain. When I saw it was also on the Cornwall itinerary there were no complaints. It’s a gorgeous place and this time was in the afternoon sun in Autumn. Compared to a spring morning, quite a difference. The skies were magic…

With all these names scratched into the surface of these bricks, I’m surprised that there wasn’t a name, followed by the familiar ‘woz ‘ere’! Taken with a Canon EOS 450D, Norwich (UK). Featured in South East UK, June 2009.

Challenging myself with Watercolours again for a challenge in Just Watercolour: This is my interpretaion of an image of Haddon Hall, Derbyshire by Rinkydink, and what a beautiful place it looks, wish I was spending more time in England next week to get further out into the country side, but alas as not! When I printed the original image out, my printer was running out of ink and it added a pink tinge which I kind of liked so I added it. The challenges are ‘Paint this Photo’ and this is it! / link to original photo – by Rinkydink: : ‘Eraldo di Paolo 300gsm Medium tooth paper. A portion of the circle, reminds me of a head a rather squashed one with a big nose. We were lucky enough to also see a crop circle just down the road from here, after overhearing tourist discuss it in the gift shop. Sadly they were rushed photos from the road, but exciting all the same. It was just a few days from the Summer Solstice so crop circles are common that time of year.
