When I decided to start delving into my ancestry I had no idea that it would take me back to my great, great, grandfather who was born in 1817 and lived in a tiny thatched cottage halfway up the side of bare and bleak Pendle Hill. On a cold March day, I could only imagine the hardships that the family must have endured and I wondered how they were affected by stories handed down of the famous Pendle Witch Trials of 1612.

Joseph of Arimathea is said to have walked in company / with other men from Palestine or maybe Phoenicia, from / the coast to Glastonbury. We know Joshua / better under the name of Jesus. / The place has been a site of pilgrimage since ages gone, / because of its red and its white wells. One underground / water is coloured red by iron, another contains large amounts / of calcium carbonate that paints everything the water touches / in white flowstone. / This must have been awe inspiring to people attributing all / growth to a feminine divinity. Those waters may have been / revered as the Goddesses blood and milk. The English / still favour those two colours, like on the English flag. / And there was once a civil war between rivalling noble / families, called the War of the Red and White roses.

This is a three second exposure of Glaisdale in the Norkshire Yorkshire moor, England when there was a nice colourful sky just as the sun was setting. Glaisdale school can be seen halfway up the hill on the right. BEST VIEWED WHEN ENLARGED.
