A second landscape from the Mowsley/Laughton area of Leicestershire, UK. This image was featured as image of the day at Fotopic.net on 16th May 2008 / Not long ago, I posted this, below, from a location nearby. The Angel of the North probably one of the most photographed works of public art in the north of England if not the country as a whole. I felt it required a fresh view and as Easter was fast approaching and the word Angel being Hebrew for messenger I thought an artistic take would be to re-create the crucifixion scene for a modern day audience. This is three images combined to make this scene.
The evening comes, the fields are still. / The tinkle of the thirsty rill, / Unheard all day, ascends again; / Deserted is the half-mown plain, / Silent the swaths! the ringing wain, / The mower’s cry, the dog’s alarms, / All housed within the sleeping farms! / The business of the day is done, / The last-left haymaker is gone. / And from the thyme upon the height, / And from the elder-blossom white / And pale dog-roses in the hedge, / And from the mint-plant in the sedge, / In puffs of balm the night-air blows / The perfume which the day forgoes. / And on the pure horizon far, / See, pulsing with the first-born star, / The liquid sky above the hill! / The evening comes, the fields are still. Mathew Arnold

The Malvern Hills, Worcestershire, England. July 2008
A thick ocean of mist slowly receeds revealing the Herefordshire and Worcestershire countryside below. The top grey line at the top of the mist is actually the ridge of the Cotswalds just peeking out above the white fog…...then the pinky sky just as the sun is about to rise over the ridge. Taken early October 2008 from the top of the Malvern Hills….often refered to as Tolkien’s Misty Mountains.
A look at the houses down the hill in Abbotsbury, Dorset, England. In the 11th century King Canute rewarded the services of Orca, his steward, with land in Abbotsbury, Portesham and Hilton. It’s believed there was already a religious community in Abbotsbury, and Orca and his wealthy wife Tola built an Abbey here. The Abbey dominated life in Abbotsbury for 500 years, but was destroyed in the dissolution. The barn survived and is the largest thatched building in the world. / Until the dissolution, Abbotsbury would have been one of the most important villages in the county, and the settlement is laid out around a wide market area. After the decline of its monastery, Abbotsbury became the quiet village it is today. / In 1664, during the English Civil War, Roundheads and Cavaliers clashed at Abbotsbury. Cavaliers besieged the Roundheads in the church tower of St. Nicholas’ church, which still bears the scars of musket fire. / During the Second World War, the coastal front was fortified and defended as a part of British anti-invasion preparations of World War II. Later, the Fleet was used as a machine gun training range, and Bouncing bombs were tested there, for the Dambuster sortie (Operation Chastise). More info /

Infra red image of an ancient Oak tree hidden in the valley of the White Leaved Oak, Malvern Hills, England. The tree is thought to be about 1,500 years old and grew from an acorn of a true albino oak which is said to have grown in the area many hundreds of years ago. The Oak is located on the site of ancient earth works and is comonly thought of as being once an ancient place of worship for the Celts and Druids. It is still visited today by local Pagans and Witches and often decorated with offerings of ribbons and crystals.
