  • Believe it or not this was taken on the same day as the last shot, this time on the way back from the waterfall. During the Summer season the steam trains run regularly, lots of photo opportunities.. must remember to make an effort and actually go out and try to get steam engine photo’s this year. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET

  • Ironically a desk tidy sits next to a phone on this cluttered and messy desk at an abandoned jet engine research facility.

  • So this image is of my engineering scale on white paper on top of my desk with my desk lamp- my sink studio is currently only in use for eye shots :) As usual I did a little bit of fixing in photoshop- I never really get that perfect white background when shooting (especially just with a desk lamp). It is part of my office supply series which I am slowly adding to :) /

  • This is an extreme close up of the locker box outside of the pumping station, as you can see the door was slightly ajar, and the chain loose enough to allow me to have a peep inside but still i couldn’t get any idea of what the use of the box was.

  • A very quiet Station on the privately owned North Yorkshire Moors Railway… a good spot to see steam locomotives through out the Summer months. This photo belongs to MY STEAM AND RAIL SET

  • Before the Steam Engine can leave the station, a staff / token has to be passed from the station master to the engine driver. This staff / token is authority to allow the train to proceed on to the single line ahead. In this case it was done while the train was in motion. This station is part of the North yorkshire Moors Railway. / / MY STEAM AND RAIL SET

  • Once again, me going over the top with hdr, with subjects like this I think it really suits. This is Goathland Station in the North York Moors, and is a great tourist attraction. STEAM AND RAIL SET

  • Wee Georgie Wood Steam Train / Wee Georgie Wood is a 600mm-gauge (2 feet) 1921 Fowler 0-4-0 tank / steam locomotive that operates on the short Farrell Tramway, which opened for operation between the then isolated mining township of Tullah and Farrell Siding, some 9.6 kilometres away on the Emu Bay Railway in 1909. / Wee Georgie Wood was the prime source of motive power for the tramway between 1921 and 1962, when the new Murchison Highway reached Tullah and the original tramway ceased operations. / Most of the original tramway route was inundated by the rising waters of Lake Rosebery. / In the 1980s Wee Georgie was rescued and restored to full running order by a group of local enthusiasts and volunteers. /

  • The Engineer / With flair quite creative / Fashioned an Engine / To help him to hear with. His old ear was lost / In a bitter winter frost / It simply crumbled away / A twisted bright pink / It made a large clonk / As it bounced in the sink. Not one to dwell / On that which hadn’t gone well / He soon had an idea / Which, although it seemed queer / Would give him, he thought, / The worlds grandest ear. So,’twas out with his tools / All fiery and swift / and in no time at all / He’d had a face lift. Tom Godfrey 2008 / Apologies to all real poets :)

  • Before year 1900 locomotion by steam power was well established for railways, agriculture and road haulage. This had not gone unnoticed by travelling showmen who began to recognise that they could utilise steam power to develop the most radical change ever to their time worn industry. Some makers of road haulage locomotives responded by offering a specifically designed version for showmen’s needs. These had water and coal carrying capacity to maximise their range between halts, a large electrical generator mounted at the front and a full-length awning to protect mechanism and crew from adverse weather. Although numbers were later reduced, it was initially legal to couple up to nine trailers into a road train and even burdened to this extent, the hauling power of an 8 N.H.P. showman’s road locomotive was adequate. They were in fact rated to haul a 40 ton load up a 1 in 20 hill in high gear, which was well in excess of normal needs. This was an overwhelming advantage over former horse transport but it was not the only benefit of steam power. After arrival on site (always to a schedule) they could draw themselves into position or move other equipment even under slippery conditions using their own powerful wire rope winch. Finally, once everything was set up correctly, their dynamo could be belt driven by the engine to provide electrical power for the fair.
