  • BubbleSites are Go (and a few other odds and ends)
    by RedBubble

Hello, Grant has been working on the BubbleSites...

Hello, Grant has been working on the BubbleSites for months now – and he’s keen to see the fruits of his hard work out there on the ‘Internets’. So today we’re taking the wrap off the BubbleSites and making it generally available. The thinking behind the BubbleSites is to provide you with a very clean, simple personal gallery website. Your BubbleSite is free of anyone else’s branding or artwork, and you control the content. The BubbleSites are one small step towards our vision for RedBubble. We can’t possibly hope to do everything for everyone with one website, so we’re looking to make RedBubble more flexible. We want to allow people to use RedBubble in different ways. Some folks want to use RedBubble as a place to send their customers. With the current website your customers land on a profile page, but there’s lots of distractions. BubbleSites provide a much more focused experience, for those who want it. We’re still doing lots of work on the BubbleSites, so expect to see more changes in the near future. In particular we’re working right now on giving people the ability to change the background color. If you’ve got any feedback or suggestions please wander over to the feedback forum and type away. This week we’ve also made some small changes elsewhere on RB. Images in challenges are no longer cropped (our challenge software is currently under beta testing – see here for a few example challenges). For those with a technical mind we’ve embedded hidden copyright information into every large image displayed on RedBubble – this means that if somone downloads a large image off RedBubble it can always be traced back to you. By default we’ve inserted your name and profile URL into each image, but you can change this on your edit profile page (down towards the bottom of the screen). That’s it for this week – thanks Grant for all your hard work! Here’s a picture of the man (and my favorite Grant t-shirt): Cheers, Peter

Had a lovely weekend in Adelaide with Shazza and managed to meet quite a few bubblers while I was there. There were two people who constantly bugged me to join Redbubble, and Sharon was one of them, so, any complaints, please see her :) So, here are a few happy snaps that she and I took with my lensbaby original. Only the best of the best shots have made it here, soz if anyone missed out. The lady herself – Sharon Hammond, the loveliest, happiest, most funnest person on the earth (after 9am, says Pete) heh. Happy birthday Shazza! / Shaz and Djcynta, daughter extraordinaire / Lizzi – no visit to Adelaide is complete without a new picture of Lizzi / Scarlet – trying to give us all that look that says “Please take this $#$^&**!!# bucket off my head.” She’s had a knee reconstruction… / A beaut bunch of flowers from the neighbours (I think) / A taste of the thousands of little cakes that Barb Leopold so generously made! YUM / and another shot of me that Sharon took with the lensbaby….better focus treasure! /

  • Macabre...Know What it is?

Main Entry: ma·ca·bre / Pronunciation: (m-käbr, m-käb, -käbr) / Function: adjective / Etymology: French, from (danse) macabre dance of death, from Middle French (danse de) Macabré / 1 : having death as a subject : comprising or including a personalized representation of death / 2 : dwelling on the gruesome / 3 : tending to produce horror in a beholder / synonym see GHASTLY Any horror fans here? Yea…me neither? But, I do have a fondness for darkside images. Why? I don’t know. I have an entire list of dark image ideas I’ve jotted down over the last year. They just pop into my head. Why do I bring it up? Because it’s still photography. Unlike nature, structures, wildlife etc, the horror and macabre field takes some planning. I think that’s why I find them so rewarding. You have to envision a final image and make it happen, from start to finish. There are almost always going to be some type of props involved to portray the visual aspect of horror. But not always I guess? Why all this babble? Because like I said, I’m a fan of the photography side. So I’ve a few images to post that touch on the subject. I’ll mark each one as being sensitive (or whatever the check box is for adult content). But that may not stop you from seeing them. So…if you don’t to care to see some possibly disturbing images, you may not want to watch me anymore. The images will be tagged with the words this journal are tagged with. I’m not trying to chase anyone away, I just want everyone to know that it’s not all about HDR, humor and happy faces with me. Thanks for looking, reading and responding to all I’ve had to offer so far. If I get a big “we don’t want to see it” response, maybe I’ll hold off? We’ll see….

  • Does the Rise of Sarah Palin Hint of the "End Times"?
    by Habenero

I wish I had the luxury to think that religious nut cases are not any real threat to the US. With the rise of Sarah Palin to such a prominent place within the Republican party, I can’t afford to be so blind any longer. The religious right and their desire to be with Jesus above all else is a threat to all life on the planet. I have heard too many people talking about all the signs in their bible pointing to this as being the “End Times”, including some I used to think were rational. The one thing I am sure about, according to their own bibles, only “God” will know when the end is to occur. Until he decides, we are to live our lives treating all with compassion. How dare you wage wars in his name or even try to claim he is on our side when war is the ultimate in inhumane acts. Compassion is not being shown to human beings being shot, bombed, or sliced up. It does not matter if they have the same god as you, your god has forbidden you to cause harm to other human beings. As I read over the bible, I see no loophole within the commandment “Thou shalt not kill!” The majority of the religious sheep, never really read the bible, they let the church elders do that for them and figure that is good enough. Their more learned leaders control the flock to such an extent that most will kill for the purity of their religion. That said, when a flock is told by a charismatic lunatic that he has interpreted the bible, and the “End Times” are near, most of them will not question the interpretation. That Sarah Palin is a member of such a sect, and has been nominated for a position that would put her a heartbeat away from actually having the Nuclear Codes that would make it possible for creating the “End Times” is extremely frightening. It would be bad enough when a known hot head like McCain has the launch codes, but he at least is not actively seeking to be with Jesus any time soon (as far as we can tell). Vote Obama!

enough. / i am afraid the issue has been blown far too far out of proportion. / it has revealed the jealousy, dislike, pettiness and vitriol like poison beneath the surface. / why, i ask, can everyone not just get along and get over it? / the decision will not be retracted. / there is no win-win situation. / we need to understand and grow from the conflict, realize that helen was not perfect in her approach, and that redbubble did not consider the wisest option. we are human: this is why we can make mistakes, and this is why we are artists. / let’s accept this as a blunder on both parts. / let us realize that many of us have unresolved anger, and that we direct it blindly at others. / let us stem this tide of bitterness.
