Wikipedia; ” Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid/paste is then applied to a surface — usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used. The simplest encaustic mixture can be made from adding pigments to beeswax, but there are several other recipes that can be used — some containing other types of waxes, damar resin, linseed oil, or other ingredients. Pure, powdered pigments can be purchased and used, though some mixtures use oil paints or other forms of pigment. Metal tools and special brushes can be used to shape the paint before it cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface. Today, tools such as heat lamps, heat guns, and other methods of applying heat allow artists to extend the amount of time they have to work with the material. Because wax is used as the pigment binder, encaustics can be sculpted as well as painted. Other materials can be encased or collaged into the surface, or layered, using the encaustic medium to adhere it to the surface. This technique was notably used in the Fayum mummy portraits from Egypt around 100-300 CE, in the Blachernitissa and other early icons, as well as in many works of 20th-century American artists, including Jasper Johns. Encaustic art has seen a resurgence in popularity since the 1990s with people using electric irons, hotplates and heated stylus on a variety of different surfaces including card, paper and even pottery. The iron makes producing a variety of artistic patterns elementary. However, the medium is not limited to just abstract designs, it can be used to create complex paintings, just as other media such as oil and acrylic “

I started to work with pigmented beeswax in 2006. First small cards making use of an iron to create images. But there is more to working with wax then “just” making a nice card with an iron. the interesting thing about working with wax is to deal with it’s qualitys. Knowing when to let it “flow” and when to lead it into the direction you want. / All images are exclusive, to do a painting a second time, you need to know the exact amount of wax you use everytime, the heat you used, the angle you worked on;it can look alike but will never be the same. / There are ways to paint with wax as you would do with oilpaintings, but i love to make use of the unexpected in order to create my images. / There will allways be somebody who thinks this is not art… that’s ok by me, as long as it’s fun; to do and to watch. So when you look at my uploads, i hope you will have fun!

The past weeks i haven’t been commenting much on all your wonderfull creations.. / Most of you know we are building a new house, i’m glad to say it is about to be ready but this is the time where i feel i need far more hours in a day to do all that needs to be done.. i haven’t got time to create right now and even keeping up with all of your Art is something i simply haven’t got the energy for at this moment.. i hope you can all understand this.. the moments where i do have some time i decided to view the recent Art and not work back.. it takes too much of my energy that i need elsewhere. / We hope to be in our new home before Christmas but we need to work hard to make that possible and in the meantime i leave you all / these Seeds of Love ♥
