He is the sort of dentist no one wants…as he is blind, armless and a creature of hell. One my early water colour paintings that many people (people with odd issues) tell me they like the most. When I visited my parents just before Christmas I noticed that my Mum had bought these fabulous enameled silver clowns… I just had to get some pictures of them.
Oil & enamel on linen, two panels. Bob is new music composer Robert Ashley.
Oil, enamel, photography & collage on linen. This painting graces the CD cover of my friend Kip Hanrahan’s EXOTICA, starring vocals and bass by the legendary Jack Bruce, and organ and piano by the great late Don Pullen. I love this political and erotic rhythmic record and was quite pleased Kip chose Prague Souvenir III for it. I finally made it to Prague in August of 1989 (finally ‘cause while living in West Berlin in 1981-83, I often heard about this beautiful Gothic city that was rather close by), leaving it just two days prior to the 1968 anniversary of the Soviet tank invasion (?), and only three months before the Berlin Wall would get torn down. I’m on the very last image, wearing a hat and standing on the top step by the bridge. Funny memory.
Oil, enamel & photography on linen. In Latin the title means Here And Everywhere. My farewell painting done during four years of living in Paris. Photographs included were taken at the two opposite ends of outer Paris: Le Chateau de Vincennes and the just then inaugurated Grand Arch at La Defence.
Oil and enamel on linen – my first for years where I omitted black from my palette, re-defining contrast.

Oil, enamel & collage on linen. One of six paintings inspired by Mozart’s Requiem.
Oil, enamel, photography & collage on linen. The Three Fates, from Greek mythology (and I did a little research once upon a time which I’ve since forgotten or didn’t give much importance to), was first brought to my attention musically interpreted by Keith Emerson on the first LP of Emerson Lake & Palmer. In recent years, I saw a wonderful dance adaptation of it by Sandy Kaufmann here in New York City. I worked on my three renditions of the theme while living in Paris. In the attempt to break away from realism (???) at that time, I was not only working with a lot of collage, but using photography to create some kind of narrative by using photos in contact-sheet type of strips. Atropos was created with the title in mind. The Three Fates dealt with the thread of life. The first I believe spooled it, the second measured, and the third, Atropos, cut it, hence, in the painting, a single strip of photos appear and midway go black. Always a favorite, Atropos was selected during a studio visit by the late jazz pianist Don Pullen to grace the cover of his final CD, Sacred Common Ground (although that notion died with him—seems the only other person who knew that when Blue Note was designing the cover was myself, and it was beyond my control—shame). Thank you.
