On the flats near Coonamble, NSW Emu’s are found, this one appeared to be having a bad hair day!
I’ve added the Monty Python Life of Brian lyrics to this image, too (they are also paired with the tiny image of the camel). Actually they seem to be appropriate for all philosophizing purposes. Sometimes humour (and one can hardly call these lyrics great poetry) can trigger other emotions and maybe make one forget one’s troubles, if only for a moment. Some things in life are bad, They can really make you mad, / Other things just make you swear and curse, / When you’re chewing life’s gristle, Don’t grumble, Give a whistle / And this’ll help things turn out for the best. And… / Always look on the bright side of life. [whistle] / If life seems jolly rotten, There’s something you’ve forgotten, / And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing. / When you’re feeling in the dumps, Don’t be silly chumps. / Just purse your lips and whistle. That’s the thing. And… / Always look on the bright side of life. [whistle] / For life is quite absurd And death’s the final word. / You must always face the curtain with a bow. / Forget about your sin. Give the audience a grin. / Enjoy it. It’s your last chance, anyhow. So,... / Always look on the bright side of death, [whistle] / Just before you draw your terminal breath. [whistle] / Life’s a piece of shit, When you look at it. / Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke it’s true. / You’ll see it’s all a show. Keep ‘em laughing as you go. / Just remember that the last laugh is on you. / Always look on the bright side of death, [whistle]
The Emu is Australia’s tallest native bird. Emus are easy to identify. Adult Emus are covered with shaggy grey-brown feathers except for the neck and head, which are largely naked and bluish-black. The wings are greatly reduced, but the legs are long and powerful. Each foot has three forward-facing toes and no hind toe. Emus eat fruits, seeds, growing shoots of plants, insects, other small animals, and animal droppings. Their calls consist of booming, drumming and grunting. Booming is created in an inflatable neck sac, and can be heard up to 2km away.
This emu was very curious of the car and occupant ;) Taken on the way to town… and drybrushed into some clarity-- very fuzzy original :( I love the expression!

One from the archives, a scanned print taken on black and white Ilford film in 2002 with a Pentax P30. This spillway is near the small township of Terang, in South Western Victoria. Further along, near Skipton, the creek serves as a platypus breeding ground, and apparently the redfin fishing is decent too.
I like this guy better and have given up on the RB uploader trying to replace the last image, blah, computer keeps dying! Emu shot taken at Johnstone River crocodile farm, Innisfail in far north Queensland.
