  • I am returning on Mission to the remote villages in Nigeria on 15th November – 16th December 2009. / As I was looking through the Charity Mission notes over the past year, I was reminded that in Tunga/Zuga, Ungwa/Fada, Kaban and Quo Vita Villages in very remote areas, there are 56 blind villagers, which include 28 children. River blindness and cateracts cause most blindness here. James lives in Tunga-Zuga an isolated village in Kebbe State. Nigeria. AS I sat and listened to him sing Jesus Loves me, I realised that although he is physically blind, he can see through eyes of faith. I wrote this verse for James and I dedicate it to all those children I have met who are Blind. “In my world of darkness there is light, / I see my Jesus through eyes of faith, / what these natural eyes cannot see, / my eyes of faith reveal all to me”. • Ungwa/Fada Village, remote Nigeria. I knocked on the door of a precious Grandmother who I met while ministering t=in the village last December 2007, expecting her to be in, but instead it was little Alice who opened the door. When she saw me, she was so surprised and stood looking at me without any words. The rest of the Mission team burst out laughing and one elder rolled on the ground with uncontrollable giggles. Eventually Alice produced a smile, but would not move. I love this shot as it made us all laugh in what was a very difficult day emotionally as we did what we could to help the extreme poor and sick in this isolated village. / Alice is one of three orphans cared for by her Grandmother. • Taken while traveling through remote Nigeria in Niger Delta Region. This young boy came running towards our vehicle and we stopped for a welcome break, after 7 hours of bumpy dusty tracks. He wanted to sell us one of his animals. I felt so sorry for him, that I give him what he asked, after being told by one of our Missionary guides he had asked the going price. I refused to take his animal, as I felt we had enough food, and he looked so thin. After this he insisted that I should visit his settlement. After much persuasion with the team We did. None had heard about Jesus and his Love. All received Jesus as Lord. We also were able to give multi-vitamin tablets to the senior elder, and he promised to give each one a Tablet every day. It was a blessing. We now have a Local Missionary who visits the settlement each week. 100% of all proceeds from sale of my art goes toward helping the extreme poor, sick and isolated in villages in Africa.. I thank God for those here on RB who prayed earnestly and donated funds towards her care. Today Grace is completely recovered, and Sings her Sunday School songs with much joy. This is my passion and inspiration in life. I live to help the poor and inspired by many here on Rb who pray and donate to the mission. Her life has touched many around the world. • One of my biggest influences in art, without question, is English romantic landscape master painter J.W. Turner I discovered him while studying at art college, and I fell in love with his work. When the traveling Great Masters of Art show landed in Denver at the museum, I almost slept out for tickets, knowing that among Rubens and Van Dyck, Turners work would be there. There is nothing like seeing Turners work in person, nothing. It is simply stunning and inspiring and very motivational. So, I suppose without question that you could certainly say that whole shot was inspired by him. I wanted a shot that would really reflect the influence he has had on me as an artist and as a photographer specifically. My painting style goes without question, but trying to capture a photograph in teh same style as a master landscape painter is a different beast entirely. Did I succeed? You be the judge. About the photograph itself: Captured on the northern Colorado plains on an old country road, the old tree, though long and dead, seems to almost still hold some life as the sky paints the end of the day slowly falling behind the Colorado Rockies. Processed in Lightroom, Dynamic Photo HDR and final output through Photoshop. I hope you all like it! John

  • PLEASE READ THIS. Taken in Tunga/Zuga Village, remote Kebbe State. Nigeria. / My passion in life is to bless the poor by sharing some of what God has blessed me with, and allow others to share the blessings by helping, too, for Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my (Jesus’) name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. Mark 9:37 Salome sits at the fire and starts her day at sunrise before anyone else get up. She prepares what little food she has to feed herself, her younger sister and disabled mother. She has never been to school nor had time to play like other children. Something went very wrong when Angel, her younger sister was born and their mother was never able to walk again. Since then Salome has been caring for her mother and sister. Salome needs mechanical farm tools, seed, fertilizers, and water barrels to store water. Then she will be able to grow her own food in her family garden. I am returning to these remote villages on 15th November- 16th December 2009. Please my dear friends, pray for and help Salome, and so many in her kind of life. If you can bless her by donating towards her needs, you in turn will receive a blessing from God. Psalm 41:1-3 / 1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. / 2 The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. / 3 The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
