  • Seasons
    by Karin Taylor

    US$5.23–US$119.32

/ Following are the lyrics to the song Turn, Turn, Turn This group was a huge influence on me as a little girl. I adored Judith Durham and her beautiful voice and spirit. I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! Turn! Turn! / originally written by Pete Seeger / The Byrds (cover by The Seekers later) To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to be born, a time to die / A time to plant, a time to reap / A time to kill, a time to heal / A time to laugh, a time to weep To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to build up,a time to break down / A time to dance, a time to mourn / A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time of love, a time of hate / A time of war, a time of peace / A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to gain, a time to lose / A time to rend, a time to sew / A time to love, a time to hate / A time for peace, I swear its not too late ‘Inspiration Series’ card by Karin Taylor “Seasons” is a mixed media production on thick water colour paper using ink pastel acrylic charcoal and texta, this portrayal is slightly different from the original piece in that I have added a blue background and highlights digitally. I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). The short bars above the letters indicate that they are abbreviations. ‘There is a time for everything, / and a season for every activity under heaven: / a time to be born and a time to die, / a time to plant and a time to uproot, / a time to kill and a time to heal, / a time to tear down and a time to build, / a time to weep and a time to laugh, / a time to mourn and a time to dance, / a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, / a time to embrace and a time to refrain, / a time to search and a time to give up, / a time to keep and a time to throw away, / a time to tear and a time to mend, / a time to be silent and a time to speak, / a time to love and a time to hate, / a time for war and a time for peace. – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

  • Full view please :) Once again Sally Omar has written a beautiful poem to accompany this image. Check it out After All We’ve Been Through girlinthestars my favourite RB poet and RB friend, also wrote an amazing poem for this piece. Here is After All We’ve Been Through: I listened to advice / And so, I am here alone / Lying in a creaking boat of hope / As bitty holes let / Our tragedy seep in / And I start sinking again I have tried to convince myself / That, yes / Yes / This is right / We should not be together / Their counsel for me to let you go / Is for something I surely don’t see / And yet they know But then why? Why is there an aching so deep / That any task needs / Absolute relevance to my existence / Or else I don’t even care Why is there a picture in my mind / Of a summer’s day / And no matter how hard I try / You are there with me / You are squinting in the sun / You tell me things that I believe / And the very thought of it / Encompasses my body so much / I feel I have lived it And when I open a book / That is supposed to engage me / Why do you gently land upon the page / In disguise of a butterfly / And I follow you / To a vast field / That smells of rain / A nostalgic scent of innocence / And life / And everything I want / Everything I hoped for / Begins to evolve in it all / And it always leads me back to you / This tightening in my chest / Protesting / After all we’ve been through The drenching sun upon the crack of my ceiling / Love is not perfect, it’s a perfect feeling I want them to tell me what is so fantastic / About this life I am living now I want them to fill that barren wall / Or at least putty the holes in I want them to call me at midnight / And make everything ok I want them to sew up that dress that I tore / Like an invalid in the loss of us But most of all I just want you And that’s the least of what they can do ..::Stock Photo Credit::.. / Dancers / Hallway / Background / Butterflies If you like this, please check out: / / /

Yes I know what you’re all thinking…It’s ANOTHER PET DOG!!!!! Don’t panic you arty farty types…it’s only up for a limited time whilst I make some cards for a friends present. Then it will be strictly back to black polo necks and matching berets. Ciao baby. Postscript (Wow I literally just uplaoded this to make cards for a friends birthday. I had no idea people would comment on it! I feel compelled to point out – as those who know me understand – my humour is very dry and ironic. Don’t take anything I say seriously! Except for my Africa pics and this word – thanks…) :) I MIGHT ADD IF ANYONE WANTS TO BUY IT-GO ON, ON YA, YEAH NOW AND THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! COLLECT THE SET!!

So I thought I would throw it out there to you all to see if you wouldnt mind helping a girl out? All suggestions for a title gratefully accepted =)) *Background info – this is a conservatory near Paramatta Creek in Tasmania, hidden away off the road in the most unlikely of places. UPDATE!!* As you may notice, this piece is no longer “untitled” A journal entry of thanks has been posted.
