  • Taken in Ely – at nightfall…the setting sun was momentarily hidden behind this sign and I though it looked awesome – nothing has been touched in this shot – completely natural….which i found amazing to be in at the time.

  • Yes I know what you’re all thinking…It’s ANOTHER PET DOG!!!!! Don’t panic you arty farty types…it’s only up for a limited time whilst I make some cards for a friends present. Then it will be strictly back to black polo necks and matching berets. Ciao baby. Postscript (Wow I literally just uplaoded this to make cards for a friends birthday. I had no idea people would comment on it! I feel compelled to point out – as those who know me understand – my humour is very dry and ironic. Don’t take anything I say seriously! Except for my Africa pics and this word – thanks…) :) I MIGHT ADD IF ANYONE WANTS TO BUY IT-GO ON, ON YA, YEAH NOW AND THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! COLLECT THE SET!!

  • Ely, Cambridgeshire, UK / June, 2009

  • Ely Cathedral was built by William the Conqueror as a prominent outpost after the bloody and lengthy rebellion by Hereward the Wake. Ely Cathedral (in full, The Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely) is the principal church of the diocese of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, England, and the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Ely. It is known locally as “the ship of the Fens”, because of its prominent shape that towers above the surrounding flat and watery landscape.

  • Ely’s Mill-Great Smoky Mountains National Park-Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail Established in 1925, Ely’s Mill is family owned and operated. Built by Andrew Jefferson Ely, Ely’s Mill now offers a unique craft and antique shop. A. J. Ely, known as “Old Man Ely,” was a Yale law school graduate, a practicing Tennessee lawyer and a printer. Disenchanted with city life after the death of his wife, he bought a 30 acre tract in an effort to live a healthy life. He preached against smoking and strong drink - coffee, tea, alcohol - along with the evils of various foods, including milk, salt, white bread, and “store bought” food. He advocated eating fresh vegetables, honey, bananas, buttermilk and lots of spring water. For years, the old Lines Bakery made a special bread from his flour. There was no subject he felt lukewarm about; politics, taxes, marriage, youth, religion, and other topics. It’s been told that if he liked you he’d talk with your for hours, but if he didn’t approve of you, he’d take the whole afternoon off just to tell you so. Ely hired local craftsmen to build the mill and showroom to display their ware. Initially called The Water Wheel Craft Shop, the mill featured weaving and local crafts and also made solid wood furniture and sold antiques. The water wheel powered the machinery in the Furniture Shop – belt sanders – lathes, planers – by a system of pulleys and belts. The wheel itself is almost 30 feet in diameter and 8 feet wide. It was supplied with water from a race which came over the top of the buildings and begin 800 feet upstream. As the place grew, more buildings were added: barns for livestock, sheds and chicken houses. A caretaker family lived here also to help tend the garden, keep bees and manage the animals and grounds. A hammer mill was built to crush and mix feeds. A blacksmith shop was added to repair tools and make parts. When the building was completed in the 1940’s Ely’s Mill had grown to almost twenty buildings. • Clock Tower, of Ely Catherdral in Cambridgeshire Uk, taken from the Octagan Tower This was taken standing on the Roof of the Octagan Tower, looking across at the Clock tower on the other side of the building. It was well worth the climb on tiny spirial staircases, small narrow door ways and the thought of having to climb back down was not a cheerful thought.. Beautiful views could be seen all around if you could see over the turrets and walls. / I am slowly understanding the digitial side of B&W but have not done many images in the way. Strange when mostly what I took in film was B&W. Viewed 112 times on 15.12.09 Nikon D90 and Nikor 18-105vr lens / Focal length 18mm / F/,.13Exposure 1/500 sec / ISO 400 Hand held, processed in 1 image software Redynamix HDR programmeand converted into B&W to see what it looked like.

  • This is what greets you as you enter the main front door to the catherdral. it is like a porch area before the main door. Beautiful crafted work by hand the stone is a beautiful colour. The spot lights around the roof adds to the feel of the entrance. Nikon D90 and Nikor 18-105vr lens / Focal length 18mm / F/. 4,5 / Exposure 1/40th sec / ISO 450 Hand held and Aperture Priority, just a slight tweak in photshop CS2

  • Hand carved stone work of Ely Cathedral by Main Entrance My dear friend Ann-Maree asked me if i would try and do this image in B&W as she liked the colour version but wanted to see it in B&W. So here it is for you. : ) sorry still not cracked linking to other people pages Ann-maree. This beautiful carved stonework, greeted Simon and I as we came upto the main entrance of Ely Catherdral in Cambridgeshire. As I walked through the heavy carved iron clad door and took my first steps into it’s sanctuary and looked ahead of me “OHHHHHH” escaped from my lips. I have not often been overwhelmed by the size or beauty of many places but this was beyond anything I would of been able to imagine. The sheer scale of the building and stained glass windows and workman ship all done by hand and 100years in the making. I would advise you take a tripod, something Simon and I will both do next time for that extra small cost of having it with you,and using it within the Cathedral it will be worth your while. Nikon D90 and Nikpr 18-105vr lens Focal length 38mm / F/.4.5 / Exposure 1/400 sec and -1step. / ISO 400 Hand held and Aperture Priority, image tweaked in levels slightly in Photoshop CS2 and then converted into B&W in Redynamix HDR 1 image software programme.

  • This is Ely catherdral, and the clock tower is where the main front entrance is to this most inspiring, beautiful and all handcrafted work by man, taking over 100 years ago to create. There is beautiful stained glass windows, impressive views from the roofs, and so much to see inside, and althou it has lots of tourists it presence with in is still a house of god with hourly prayers read out. I did not like the colour version of the image just could not get my colour balance right,so i was going to delete the image but thought i would just play around with it in b&W and this is what appeared. I just love the clouds coming forth across the sky just has a feeling about it, but i cannot put my finger on it, possiably you can. But i liked it and so have kept it. • Taken inside Ely Catherdral, Cambridgshire Uk. 27.10.2009 Well the inside was wonderful so much to look at and photograph, if you knew what you were doing and had a tripod, both of which I did not have. But love trying new things so twiddled the buttons on my camera set my ISO to auto range up to 3200 and went to have some fun. I took a lot of images most blurred and so bad but I learnt a lot and slowly getting to grips with low light photography. I have processed this one in Nixon Efex pro 3 just a little to being out the stonework a slight level changeand a tweak in something else i cannot recall must make notes as I work but little else done to it Nikon D90 and Nikor 18 – 105vr lens Focal length 18mm / F/. 4.5 / Exposure 1/15th sec and _1 step / ISO 3200 Hand Held, Aperture Priority, ISO to Auto
