Inspired by a poem written by my friend, Jordan Drawing is done in watercolor and colored pencil. / Winner of the Collaboration Challenge in All Around the Styles . La Sirena Varada your song / ensnared me - / i was caught / from the first note / when you spun / your spell around me / and enmeshed me / in your dark enchantment from across an ocean of sleep / you called to me / wove a web of wonders / ‘round my heart / and i became tangled / in your net / of nightingale dreams drawn to your heart’s sea / where you sat / a lone figure / on a storm-circled rock la sirena varada / taking solace in solitude / you spin the strands of men’s fate / with words / and music i am drawn to you / like a dying man to prayer / like a lover to silken sheets / like a moth to flame and loving you / is like a dream

A collaboration with my dear friend Erika: / Claire de Lune In a dream / a starlit adventure with no compass / and strange encounters and perils / of every kind- / and unknown world opens up / like a music box in an ancient attic- / a story unfolds / and tells of uncharted lands / and undiscovered maps etched in my being The piano plays / and I begin to dream- / my wings pull me upward / but my roots plant my feet on the ground / ripped in half / gravity pulls me down / earthbound by reality / whenever the world fails to listen to my tune… / so I join the stars and my dreams / as they call out to me / upon the clear light of the moon Inspired by Debussy’s Clair de Lune. Dedicated to my friend, Jordan Self -portrait I tried to capture the color of dreaming and softness of sleep that’s found in this poem. I was experimenting with mixing different mediums in order to get a certain soft effect. Mixed media on drawing paper. (watercolor and pencil) The Dream evening ascends the throne / and wraps the world / in violet silk, / indigo sleep falls upon me as i sail the skies of silver / and periwinkle dust / and glide on soft waves of wishes / that gently rock me / as my saffron thoughts / glimmer in the half-light / under a bronze sky of dreams then Golden Sleep envelopes me / with its silken threads of pearl / and in the evening silence / whispers gently once again / the name of the one / who hopes I dream of him: and I smile like a child / for my dream is in you Featured in Inspired By Poetry, Image Writing, and First Things

On a geography assignment in an informal settlement, I stumbled upon these children. The photojournalist in me inspired me to take this shot. What I love most about this is their varied and contrasting expressions.

today i was thinking about abuse - / people who’ve suffered it. childhoods ended by it. it has, i believe – at least, happened to all of us, to some extent. abuse of different natures, perhaps, but we have all experienced it in some form. this is for you. this is for us. i am just so tired of abuse… / 3 march 2009 – 19 september 2009.
self-portrait. / this didn’t turn out quite like i expexted, but that is how art is: unfixed and ever-changing. / 17 october 2009. you cannot know the fears i have / of grey walls in a room that shrinks slowly / to the breadth of a silent scream / a room with no windows / or doors / where beauty is as ash / collecting in forgotten corners / and youth no more than dust / on the bitter wind
