Sketch of Elphaba from Gregory Maguire’s wonderful book Wicked.

Ink and tea drawing of Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) I did after reading Gregory Maguire’s splendid book Wicked. / Elphaba is a truly amazing character. An Atheistic hero, an animal/Animal rights activist, a non-conformist and an intellectual. Elphaba remains a strong woman throughout her whole life – she has to, in a way, because she can’t cry. Tears literally burn her.

Ink, watercolour and pencil drawing on paper. / Illustration I did whilst reading the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire. / Chistery is Elphaba’s beloved monkey whom she later sews wings onto. I really don’t like this drawing but I thinks it’s the closest I got to visualizing how sweet and innocent Chistery is in the book.

Galinda’s line from the song “What is this Feeling?”, describing her new roomie, Elphaba. The song is from the Broadway musical Wicked. If you get a chance to see it…. GO! It’s amazing, and literally took my breath away.

Flash Review: Wicked

A mini review for the Flash Fiction group challenge here. Wicked was a book I hadn’t come across prior to RB, and I enjoyed the read and the alternate view of Elphaba, despite its tragedy.
