Someone mentioned on another site that she remembers being asked a test question in grammar school, “does the Statue Of Liberty really have sandals on her feet?” Yes, she has sandals on her feet, she’s moving forward with one foot lifted. She has the mark of the early Romans (toes) still visible in many people today – second toe is longer than big toe and little toe is “hammered”. :) “Is the Statue of Liberty in New York or New Jersey?” The statue is part of New York Harbor and sits in Liberty State Park which is in Jersey City, New Jersey. The statue is actually in New Jersey. New York Harbor includes the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the first stop for all immigrants (1892 – 1954) who arrived in New York by boat. Rainbow Elephant is coming to a tee near you..yes hopefully in the next hour or so, i will have her ready as a tshirt too….. hope you like her, she’s a mixed media production…mainly pastels (chalk) on yellow pastel paper….plus charcoal and a small amount of acrylic! I did this ages ago…but only just learned how to fix her up in photoshop ato make her available…hope you like her :) /

/ / Ellie Elephant is created from chalk pastels, ink, charcoal and acrylic paint with a crackle effect to make her hide look authentic. I finally got around to enlarging her, as i have her loaded as a small image for a card, but now she’s available as a print also…one of my favourites :) I hope you like her….she’s hiding in the jungle

Features Urban Wildlife – 1/28/09 / #12 Great Features – 1/27/09 / Country Bumpkin – 2/6/09 / American Southwest – 2/3/09 / Squirrels – 1/30/09 I was out and about yesterday, January 29, 2009 and saw this little squirrel scamper up a tree. I pulled off the road into a driveway, rolled down my passenger window as I was on the driver’s side, and just started shooting. I got some great shots of her, isn’t she just precious? She was eating something – she looks a little chubby, maybe some little one’s on the way? I love squirrels. I named this one Frisky because before I was even born, my dad and oldest sisters found a baby squirrel and named it Frisky. My dad has old reel tapes of him and my oldest sister holding Frisky. Photo taken in the city of Oak Leaf, TX in an urban environment! The Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger) is the largest species of tree squirrel native to North America. The Fox Squirrel’s natural range extends throughout the eastern United States, excluding New England, north into the southern prairie provinces of Canada, and west to the Dakotas, Colorado, and Texas. They have been introduced to both Northern and Southern California. While very versatile in their habitat choices, fox squirrels are most often found in forest patches of 400,000 square metres or less with an open understory, or in urban neighborhoods with trees. They thrive best among trees such as oak, hickory, walnut and pine that produce winter-storable foods like nuts. They are gregarious and apparently playful, often chasing each other up and down trees and across yards and clearings. They have a large vocabulary, consisting most notably an assortment of clucking and chucking sounds, not unlike some “game” birds, and they warn the listening world of approaching threats. In the spring and fall, groups of fox squirrels clucking and chucking together can make a small ruckus. They are impressive jumpers, easily spanning fifteen feet in horizontal leaps and free-falling twenty feet or more to a soft landing on a limb or trunk. Best viewed larger

The blue color of the silky water is becoming more deeper because the light is getting very little and the sun is almost set. With some imagination you can use the light from man made light to add some color, the light source of the golden color is a light few hundred meters away but on higher ground.

/ detail of “Patch” Patch was born from an idea I got from browsing the junk mail this morning, a pair of cute striped girls pyjamas gave me the initial idea for a striped elephant, but he just developed as i went, and turned into “Patch”.... loose threads of cotton show little Patch isn’t quite finished yet, just as we are still growing and changing and learning….so is he, we are all a little like Patch really created from an original drawing, reconstructed in Photoshop

Steer II (Missy Higgins) / / Pencil drawing, digital colouring The Golden Elephant – story and art by Karin Taylor / A long long time ago in a tropical land where the papaya grow wild and free, there lived a golden elephant who’s beauty was unsurpassed. All the creatures were mesmerised by what appeared to be the sun entering the water when she swam and when she walked on the land everyone stepped aside, as elephants were revered. Legend has it, the golden elephant was once a beautiful warrior princess. Once, in midst of of a terrible battle with her enemy about to take her life, she made a wish that she could become an elephant, for then no harm would come to her. The beautiful warrior princess was granted her wish, tho could sadly not return to her human form, and so it was that the golden elephant lived forever, bringing warmth and light wherever she went. During the darkest nights when the stars hid and the moon disappeared, the beautiful golden elephant shone like the sun, lighting the way for pilgrims on their journey. Although very happy she got what she wished for, the golden elephant found herself still thinking the grass was sometimes greener on the other side. Indeed she would have liked to be human again. But she accepted her new role and did the best she could with her gift of light.
