Collaboration with Geno Praag using his beautiful image of two battling stallions and my lovely Mouse’s soft and gorgeous eye. /

This is my horse, Mouse, once again. She is my favorite subject.

The fog is rising, the mud is flying and Mouse is on the run. / /

Study of the gentle spirit which dwells within the horse as shown by the soft light in its beautiful eye.

Equine photography and art by Sande Elkins

The landscape here is rolling and the field that lies beyond the pasture is low and damp. The fog settles there in the mornings and sometimes, refuses to move until late in the afternoon. This photo was taken very early in the morning however. If you look closely, you can still see the dew sparkling in the early morning light. Contentedly eating their breakfast hay are my two horses, Brandy and Mouse.
-
Mouse and me acting silly. Of course, she thought only I was being foolish, lying on the ground like that while she was just trying to eat her hay.

This regal looking fellow belongs to a neighbor. I really don’t know the horse’s name but the neighbor is named Knight and I thought this strikingly handsome beast looked like a bold and brave medieval knight.

My Halloween greeting for this year. I did this image to illustrate an old story. Maybe it’s an urban legend or a rural one but I know that I had people from all over the world tell me that they’d heard of this haunting tale. It seems bridegroom was tragically killed on his wedding day. His young bride, consumed by grief, locked herself away in her bedroom. There she sat, day after day, watching out the window for her beloved to return to her until she died from starvation and self neglect. Some say, that if you pass that house today, you can still see her watching and waiting.

Sande Elkins is the photographer of these two shots I have combined in a collaboration with her. Thank you to Sande for trusting me to work on her fabulous photos. SC and ps work. See http://www.redbubble.com/people/sandeelkins / I wanted Sande to post these but we are having trouble sending these huge files back to her on our webmails so she has asked that I post this. / Hope you like it. / Thanks again Sande!

This small town’s commercial area consisted of one block. It now is abandoned and crumbling down. I did a series of photos there attempting to capture and preserve some of its past glory before the wrecking ball leaves just a faint memory. I find beauty and dignity still even in these last stages of this architectural history

mainly equine but a few surprises~mainly monochrome but one selective color

The light as it fell on the new fallen snow gave the luster of mid-day to objects below. Most people think they are looking at water in the background but it is actually a light snow that fell here in Tennessee last Winter. We haven’t had a good snow(or bad, according to your own opinion and weather preferences:-) in several years. This is actually a day time shot that I manipulated and added the “moon” to. Once again, the model is my beautiful horse, Mouse.

Ok, this one is just for me ;-) / My lovely horse, Mouse.

This is the same decaying building that I’ve photographed many times. It use to be a general store of sorts. The predecessor to the department store which was the predecessor to the modern shopping mall. It has FURNITURE painted on its facade but I’d be willing to bet that they sold a little bit of everything and then some. The sky was gray and washed out on the day that I shot this because of large fires to our south. So, I “painted” in the sky with photoshop.

What a shock to sign on briefly last night and find an image of mine on the home page. It was the collaboration with Gene Praag and it was a thrill to see it there. I’m really busy over the next few days and not near the computer much but I wanted to leave a big THANK YOU here to both redbubble for featuring it and to all the nice people who have left comments, favorited it, and look at the image. I will thank you all individually later but I wanted to let you know now how much it meant to me. I’m on cloud nine:)! Thanks to all! ~Sande The Storm of Passion a collaboration of Geno Praag & Sande Elkins

I’ve finally worked the kinks out of the movie/dvd thingie(with a lot of help from my friends:-). Here is a link to a slide show from the dvd that I’ve posted on YouTube: / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsemk3ye0NA I had up a too long version with samples of all of my work but / Barbara Sparhawk suggested that I upload the separate movies which all had something in common. Of course the first one, above, is all about my sweet beautiful horse, Mouse:-) / Let me know what you think and I appreciate any advice, input or criticism because I’m trying to get this right. ThanksSande / Oh, one thingwatch the “high quality” version it is much sharper and better.

Ok, my first journal entry…... / I’ve only been on redbubble for about ten days and I’m still learning my way around. I have to say though that the quality and creativity that I’ve seen here is both inspiring and humbling. I’m not actually a girl anymore but at 50+, I figure I’ve earned the right to label myself however I want:) I’ve just taken up digital photography in the last nine months and I’m still very much in the novice stages. I am learning so much from the friends I’ve made online though. One of those friends, Kellie Cranmer, who is a fantastic photographer and mixed media artist, is the one who directed me to this site and I am very grateful for that. Under two weeks and I think the influence has already improved my work. / As anyone who has checked out my portfolio knows, my main subject is my beautiful horse, Mouse. Thanks to all who have shared that opinion with me-the girl is gorgeous:). You will probably get tired of seeing her and hearing about her via this journal. She is quite a character and I adore her. / I also have another horse, Brandy, a rescue of sorts, who is twenty-five years old…but don’t tell her that. She was in bad shape when she arrived here but she amazingly seems to be getting not only healthier but younger all of the time. It use to be amazing to see a trot out of her but the last few weeks, when I let her out into the pasture, she actually gallops off after Mouse. She is also full of personality and there will be lots of stories about her as well. / At the moment, I am limited by my camera which I call a semi-automatic but is basically a point and shoot because the user’s control is limited. I used 35mm for years and did my own dark room work back in the dark ages, so I do miss knowing what to expect to come out of the camera. There is something to be said for surprises, too, though and I occasionally luck out and get an image that I can really work with in my digital dark room. My dream at the moment is a Nikon 200….sure a 300 would be nice and a D3 even better!!...but I’m not setting my goals too high at first:) / Well, it has been nice meeting so many great artists and nice people here on redbubble and I will be checking in again and also checking out all of your journals and portfolios so I can get to know you and your work even better….and with many of you, your wonderful horses that we share a passion for. From East Tennessee, very early in the morning…See ya later ya’ll! ~Sande

This guy and three of his friends, both different varieties of bird which I thought was odd, were sitting in the locust tree yesterday morning with the fog all around them. I got several shots of the three of them and I still haven’t decided which I like of those. But there was just something I liked about this little fellow, puffed out against the morning chill.
