  • A surrealistic piece I did ages ago. It’s possibly the illustration I’m most proud of. I had put a lot of time and effort developing this style for myself. It borrows aspects of anime movie style illustration from movies such as – Ghost in the shell and Patlabor, aswell as every Hayao Miyazaki film. It was hand drawn. I started with the Geisha then added the other elements separately similarly to how an animator might build up a scene. Detail:

  • Picture of a small Fallow Deer in the sun

  • Just a little guy!

  • I started out wanting to do a kinda poetic image with the stag caught up in police tape. But here is where it ended up…I really hate redtape and bureaucracy. Anyway, hope you enjoy! / NFA / Alt. version BMail me: /

  • An Elk for the people… we all love leaves don’t we?

  • Woke up early to catch the sunrise and took a short drive down to Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park. The morning fog was hovering close to the ground. A male Elk off in the distance peering out of the fog. Definitely worth waking up early for. / / / /

  • These two elk were basking in the sun, waiting for me to take their picture! /

  • Location: Elk Grove California / Technique: HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Time Lapse This was absolutely the hardest sequence of shots I have ever done,,,, Ever! Loved the way the trees lined up along this dirt road except that they were originally only on the right side. Did my HDR sequence at about 6:30pm just for the trees. Then I shot a 1260 second exposure with an ND Cokin Gradual filter later at about 10pm in complete darkness with only the moon for light. Featured in Group: / “Live Long & Dream” – Dec 10/2008 / . / . / .

  • © copyright 2006 All Rights Reserved / You may not use, replicate, manipulate, redistribute, or modify this image without my express consent. BEST VIEWED LARGER. I used a Canon EOS Rebel XT, Focal Length was 80mm, ISO 400, F-stop F/4.5, This was taken up the Trinity Mountains, it was almost dark. There had been fires up there a year before. its why the trees look this way, I found it interesting and started to take the trees against that sky.

  • Seeing a big Bull Elk throw back his massive head and let out his piercing bugling sound is truly one of the miracles of the Rocky Mountain Autumn Season…I still get chills when I am blessed with this amazing experience.

  • The horned God is the eternal hunter, and also the animal which is hunted. He is the Beast who is sacrificed so that human life may go on , as will as the sacrificer, the one who sheds blood. He is also seen as the sun, eternally hunting the moon across the sky. the waxing and waning of the sun throughout the seasons manifest the cycle of birth and death, creation and dissolution, separation and return. I built the background in photo shop, the tornado was drawn with brushes/blended and blurred / The clouds were pieced together from photos and masked and blended/blurred / Trees were my photos/separated and moved about / Antlers were a separate photo from the head

  • There has been one poster and two card sales of this image. This image was featured by the group, JPG Cast-Offs, on January 15, 2009. • A young bull elk keeps gaurd over two cows during the autumn rut. The Gibbon river Valley flows though the west central portion of Yellowstone Natonal Park. A week earlier this meadow was the site of great battles between mature waring bulls, but now, as the rut wains this adolescent bull persists with cows allready visited by his elders.

  • It is a quiet autumn day. This creek is low on water and the current is not real swift. Further down it empties into the Rogue River and there the current is swift and very strong. A canoe has broken away from it’s mooring and is starting to drift down stream. The couple that were canoeing are strolling in the park and don’t realize that anything is amiss. Perhaps this little canoe will end up in another world of swift currents, rocks and buried trees. Yes, it is a brave soul that will save this little canoe now! / A composite of 2 images, autumn background and canoe. Taken at Elk Creek Park, Oregon

  • Just a few miles inside Yellowstone is an area that attracts the mature bulls during the winter. On a lucky Friday the 13th recently I encounter a group of five large bulls. They provided this rare group picture opportunity though not without challenge as they were hanging about half mile off the road necessitating a hike with full gear through crusty snow which at times rose to mid thigh. Canon EOS-1D, Mark II, Canon 500 f4L IS 1.4 Extender – 1/800@ f/16, ISO 200. Bogen 3411 w Wimberley style head. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 2.2. “Three Amigos” / ALSO FEATURED ON: Americas National Parks and Wildlife Habitat

  • According to some Native traditions, the Elk symbolizes endurance or stamina. Bull Elk is a powerfully masculine spirit. The New Moon and Venus in this position are symbolic of the High Priestess in the Tarot deck. The most potent of feminine portents. They seem to me a perfect combination of male-female balance and harmony. / In my interpretation, the placement of Venus between (above, yet behind) the antlers of Standing Elk represents fertility. The Moon, in virtually all traditions is a representation of romantic love …. New Moon, a glowing bowl to hold the abundance of Creation. The marriage of Earth and Heaven. • SO MUCH BETTER TO VIEW LARGE Big Daddy Elk…....photographed just east of Banff, Alberta, Canada…....... / handsome devil, isn’t he…....... / June 14, 2009 THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIEWS FRIENDS!!! xo

  • This Bull Elk calmly strolled through the water at the shoreline of Lake Estes early this morning. Even though a man got ‘in his face’, moving toward him within 10 feet, he continued to walk without any signs of agitation…a wonderful reminder for me to take every step of my day in peace…. Estes Park, Colorado

  • Photo taken late in the day at Bow Falls along the Bow River, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Notice the Elk crossing the river in the background, an added surprise while taking this photo !! / /

  • As the sun peeked over the mountain at Lake Estes this morning, two big Bull Elk were sparring on the shore, feeling their oats and having a go at cracking their antlers together, just for fun. They really seemed to be more playing than actually sparring. The sound of those antlers is incredible and the sight of them together like that at first light was a blessed beginning for my day today… Estes Park, Colorado.

  • I always wanted a “classic” kind of Elk shot, where one can see the steam coming out of their nose and mouth after the Bugle, with snow falling and such, and I think I finally was able to get it ! He gave us a lot of good shots, I will say that! Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Minolta 5D & Tamron 200-400mm lens

  • I picked a heck of a weekend to go back to RMNP looking for elk. A front had moved through the Front Range, bringing cold temps and snow – just the way I like it!! It’s a little late in the rut, so there weren’t a lot of crowds either (again, just the way I like it). The bad news was there were few elk, I saw no jousting, and there were few challengers. That didn’t stop this bull from responding to the few bellowed challenges issued by other bulls. This bull had a harem of less than a dozen cows, and was pretty relaxed having me photograph him. I was able to use the car as a blind and stay relatively warm and comfortable for the shoot – rare treat. Most of the time I’m out in the worst weather, struggling to stay warm and not get blown off a mountain summit. Elk (Cervus canadensis) / Rocky Mountain National Park, CO / Sony a700 / Sigma 300/2.8+1.4TC / Bean bag ISO400, f/4.5, 1/160sec
