Pretty :)
This image was taken around the same time that my other lightning pic from marino was. Same setup etc, just different exposure. This photo took 249 seconds to expose, and was one of the most beautiful lightning theatrical productions presented by mother nature herself that i’d EVER seen.
New Years Eve and the heavens turn electric, raining lightning like staccato waterfalls. An awesome display of power thrown about with ease by the world around us.
The original image that the picture thor’s finger was cropped from. Uploaded as suggested by Michael Bermingham.
Two detailed lightning strikes, one making a circle in the sky, with nice cloud definition and a desert landscape.

The storm was classed as a Catagory 3 Storm which severely damaged Emerald and Tieri 31/10/2007. Duality was taken within a farmer’s paddock just outside Middlemount the same location as Bush Blaster. The storm was just breaking up so no more images were taken that night. The shot was taken with a Nikon f80, 30sec f6.7. ISO 100 elitechrome slide film.
on my way home i stopped under the bridge to escape the rain and caught the tail end of the storm as it headed out to sea. Sundale Bridge over looking Southport Broadwater View more of my storm images / / Storms
Had to run for cover after this, I could hear the rain coming and far from shelter. I like the texture to the cloud on this. Looking towards Bayview Harbour, Runaway Bay View more of my storm images / / Storms
the Q1 being struck(pretty good target, really) again and my first of capturing it. daytime strikes i find hard to get and this i managed by stopping down to f16 and an exposure of 1 second. it was a pretty good show to watch, next time. View more of my storm images / / Storms
A collection of lightning stirkes
The storm cell had drifted out to sea and contiued its light display for an hour or more. Yellow tinge to the waves is from the lights of Surfers Paradise 20/11/08
Just after 100, I dropped the aperture down from f9 to f11 to compensate for the brightness/closeness of these bolts. This spot got peppered with strikes for a couple of minutes – who said lightning doesn’t strike the same spot twice? / 20/11/08 View more of my storm images / / Storms
As i was taking this two power lines came down, and you can actually see the lightning striking them in this photo. / Barely edited, only increased contrast. / 30 second exposure. / Canon EOS D60 Featured in 1620 January 2009 / Featured in Canon DSLR (One Image Per Day) June/July2009
The hi-rises of Main Beach with lightning going out to sea. Forgot my wet weather gear today and caught on the wrong side of the bridge as I was watching a cell to the north and one moved in behind me. Overlooking the broadwater, Gold Coast (06/12/08) View more of my storm images / / Storms
Lightning near between Crystal Brook and Port Pirie, South Australia on October 24, 2009
Lightning strikes between Crystal Brook and Port Pirie, South Australia
A very impressive line of storms had edged it’s way across the south of the state through the very late afternoon and evening, I had my doubts whether it would make it at strength to my place so I decided to come to the party and meet it at the western end of Phillip Island with the hope that if it did persist I could ‘follow’ (but be in front – a bit of confusing term for those that don’t ‘chase’ perhaps) back towards home for more shots. This line of storms was extremely lightning active, but being a line of about 100km’s in length it made it damn hard to point the camera in the right spot at the right time ! I missed so many bolts it is ridiculous and I am definitely getting one of those new 90mb/s sandisk cards shortly as the image writing time is always something that annoys me with DSLR work. It seriously cost me dozens of potential killer shots this particular night ! The bolts were plentiful and one actually started a bushfire on the eastern side of the mornington peninsula ! This created a glow in that part of the sky adding to the atmosphere. view this image large bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio Canon 5DmkII / ©T.Middleton2009 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——
Lightning was striking middle and to the right of this frame and not much was landing over the Hi-Rises of Surfers Paradise. I made sure I had Q1 just inside the frame and it managed to get hit, I caught half of the bolt but missed the half that went left. / This spot has potential, just need the storms to not drift so far south. / Taken @ The Southport Pier
Looking across The Southport Broadwater from Versace’s and Marina Mirage through to the Hi-Rises of Main Beach and Surfers Paradise. (Q1 is the last building on the right). I had hoped to catch an earlier storm but it split and bypassed the Coast, so I returned a little later to watch the second show. / I still think Wednesday will be the day. / 17/11/09
