Background Information: / A wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC),or aerogenerator. This article discusses electric power generation machinery. Windmill discusses machines used for grain-grinding, water pumping, etc. The article on wind power describes turbine placement, economics and public concerns. The wind energy section of that article describes the distribution of wind energy over time, and how that affects wind-turbine design. See environmental concerns with electricity generation for discussion of environmental problems with wind-energy production. Two detailed lightning strikes, one making a circle in the sky, with nice cloud definition and a desert landscape.
Pretty :)
Taken in the Hunter Valley NSW, last year, this storm was predominantly electrical, hardly any rain. This bolt of lightening was less than a kilometre away. I was under cover, so reasonably safe at the time.
This is an infrared shot. It was a very overcast day – not much blue sky about at all so I tried something a little different with this one. / Hope you like it.
Detailed shot of multiple lightning strikes in the Arizona desert.
Lightning in the Arizona desert. More lightning: /
The windmills in fields of wheat, they are enormous and barely whisper. / It felt so sureal to be amongst them. / Notice the bands of colour at the base, the same colour as the wheat??? / a lovely touch, it really makes them ‘blend’ don’t you think? Northern Luxembourg
The moon slinks off behind the Melbourne city skyline, but Michael Jackson was right: you never could blame it on the moon, anyway. He died the day after I took these moon shots … pretty sure it’s not my fault though. A pair of rowers disturb the chilly winter waters of the Yarra, in the foreground. South Yarra, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Powerlines in the sunset, Hillend ski slope, Edinburgh, Scotland
Actually just idling the time away with this one. Trying some new techniques (failing and succeding, failing and succeding). Before you know it, you’ve lost 2 hours! :)
