Painting Diesel on Decks - DAY 2

So it’s day two here at the Diesel on Decks Dome and things are electric. The crowd is awaiting in anticipation for the next instalment of the Painted Diesel – wondering can he match this digital version of Diesel on Decks > / - and now, we cross live to Diesel, down by the action… Yes Hi Diesel, it’s Diesel here and wow, things are screaming along. The Acrylics have been warming up for a while now, while the Canvas has been deep in serious thought…not sure how things went on in earlier conversation, but if you missed the previous round of Painting Diesel On Decks, you can view it HERE - Wait, Diesel, I’m getting word that they are about to start Painting again – yes, the Acrylics are going head to head with Canvas right now – HERE WE GO! OOH… YES… WOW! OH WHAT A DAY! —-—-—-— Here we can see the HIGHLIGHTS of day two, and if I must say so myself, there was some serious focus, and steady hands put into this effort. Here is Diesel taking hold of the brush and working with the extra ‘shading’ layers on ‘Diesel’. Diesel was aiming to stick with just painting ‘Diesel’ but he boldly chose to venture out and paint the speakers early…a tactic that seemed to pay off. Working heavily with the ‘shading’: He applies it in great detail and almost perfect precision. Amazing. From recent interviews we learned that he decided not to join the colours as the Thick Black Outline would cover up that. Simply breathe-taking excuse. Ground Zero was left in quite a state for day 2. Oooh and the final outcome, not quite GOLD-worthy yet, but in time I am sure it will resonate beautifully with the judges. We asked Diesel what he thought of the painting so far… Well that about wraps up day 2’s highlights, plenty of action down here, back to you in the studio. Thanks Diesel, I am sure within the next few days he will be able to complete this journey and receive a GOLD for his work…he’s got my vote. ARTWORK IN QUESTION> / —-—-—-—-—-- If you like my work, and would like to spread the word about my art, please purchase this groovy image: – in the form of a Card, Matte print, Laminated print, Poster or anything! You can also copy this image and post it on other websites! Again, thank you all for supporting my work, I really appreciate it.

So I opened an account with JPG Mag because I think it’s a great idea and there can be no harm done with the extra exposure by being a member. The opportunity to get published and even get some money for doing so is another great incentive that RB members should take advantage. The next magazine issue will be publishing a nighttime theme, a delectable theme, and a faith theme. I’ve entered my Electric Opera photograph as a candidate for the nighttime theme and have had a great response thusfar. Entries and voting close in 34 days which I think is on October the 7th 2008, so I urge you to check out my entry and place a vote if you see my image as fitting and worthy of being published in the nighttime theme. You may Vote Here and if you are a member, or are considering to become one, drop me a line and add me as a contact so we can rock the JPG party together! I know the talent pool on RedBubble is enormous, so spread the good news and let’s start a riot on JPG. Remember, birds of a feather flock together (I think that’s how the saying goes)... so enter your images and get voting for one another, and don’t forget to add your RB link to your ‘about me’ page.

YAWN… I’m so bored. / My daughters gone to wales to see her grandparents for three weeks. Leaving me bored and somewhat confused. / I am now awaiting a bizarre accident to happen. It always happens. Its as if once my daughter leaves me… so does my common sense. / Iv flooded my kitchen because i opened the washer half way through a wash. / Iv electrocuted myself by licking my phone charger and stabbing my crumpets out of the toaster with a butter knife. / Iv set myself on fire, my hair for leaning over to see if the hob was on,on my cooker. / Forgetting to roll up my dressing gown sleeves had me flinging my arms around like an angry ape. / I set my hand on fire when i wasn’t paying any attention to what i was cooking. / Iv nearly been hit by cars because i just walked out in front of them and not seen them. / Now your probably thinking “this girls clumsy” or “wow she’s lucky” / But you gotta be kidding me… i tiptoe around myself now just in case something goes hideously wrong. / Its a nightmare. / But i must hold my head p high and face whatever it is thats going to happen. / So, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Wow I must have been on my no A/C hiatus from my computer. I gave up trying to do much artwork as I thought the uncomfortable feeling might bleed into some of my artistic decisions. Thanks are a little delayed but still heartfelt. Thanks so much for featuring of “Explosive love.” This is an older journal entry, sorry for the age of this writing. Card of “Explosive love”... /

well I think it’s time I started my own journal on redbubble… after seeing and reading so many others’ journal… I want to start my own one :) so here goes…. Today and tomorrow I have a day off… / well not really ‘cause it’s studying for me… I have an exam from my eveningclasses on Thursday and I really need the time to study… I can hear you thinking “well shouldn’t you be studying now instead of writing in your RB journal then?” / Well I’m starting the studying in a moment, but first I need to check my mails and my RB account,... well it’s like Karl can’t miss his morning coffee (he will read this, cause he’s an RB-member as well).. so I have to check my mails and RB… and then I good… :) So you ask, what’s the exam about ? / well how to tell you in English… uhm… / it has something to do with electrics and electronics… and a whole bunch of different exercises (calculations and so on) and … And it’s kinda hard… I can do everything seperately but when the different things get used together… I mix everything up… So fingers crossed for a good exam… and to help me study these two days… :) Thanks mates! / And thanks for reading my first journal entry! / /

Fragile Earth

Two of my prints were accepted in Western Carolina University’s summer exhibition of the above named title. Dear friend, Miriam Goldberg wrote the following essay to accompany them at the show. / She has graciously allowed me to include it here on Redbubble. I hope it makes you think and that you enjoy it. Chipper =========== / Haiku Snowflakes fall then melt, / their time profoundly fleeting, / in them I see us. A Fragile Species Do you know how many species of life there are? How many have disappeared? How many are disappearing? If your answer is “yes,” let’s sit down to tea. Because only God knows answers to these questions. Man has never known with whom or what he shares planet Earth. Just as you may know many, but not all, of the people who live in your town, we have a rough idea of our global neighbors. We know that within our own species lie great mysteries which define our differences, and we willingly admit that there are things in nature that defy our understanding, yet we seldom let our ignorance prevent us from making dire pronouncements on the state of the planet or its inhabitants, both plant and animal. When a species is added to an endangered list, numbers dictate its inclusion. Low numbers. Perhaps, though, one of Earth’s most fragile species numbers in the billions. A species with a sketchy survival instinct that could easily paint itself into oblivion—that’s us. Save the tigers! Save the rainforest! Save the whales! Save the polar bears! The list sometimes seems endless. How about “Save yourself!”? Let’s save ourselves from those who predict the death of our planet by a new ice age or a global warming. Let’s save ourselves from those who predict our future based on a pond’s frog population or the number of butterflies that drown in the Gulf of Mexico each autumn. Let’s save ourselves from our own words and actions by finally seeing our purpose on Earth. / We, the arrogant “owners” of the planet, are more bird-brained than the lowliest of birds, if any bird could be considered lowly. In arrogance, we strut around like peacocks; we crow our reign over all things living as if any other species agrees we have more of a right to this space than they. We’re cuckoo, and we are on our way to dodo status. It’s time to think small, my non-feathered friend. As a species we strive for more territory, more influence, more power, more comfort, more knowledge. How about more understanding? Instead of solving problems by creating problems (such as the DDT solution or the Ethanol solution), let’s solve problems by understanding and eliminating them. No one would seriously blame the extinction of a species on that species, but we seem bent on deserving that responsibility. Has there ever been a more self-destructive species than man? / We expand our territory to include areas that are hostile to us, then attempt to eradicate the hostility, whether by resettling human populations, relocating crocodilians and bears, building sound barriers, rerouting rivers, or any of our other often futile endeavors to recreate and rule our environment. We think big. We want more. When we create a problem, we don’t solve it, we hide it with another, bigger problem, and we keep doing it until it’s seemingly unsolvable. The planet, however, has a simple solution: extinction. The phrase appearing on the tombstone of the extinct Homo Sapiens should be, “All they wanted was more.” Our footprints are large, but not ineradicable. We feel we have no borders, no limits; this earth is ours! We believe that we are the proprietors of the planet, the invincible rulers. How nature laughs at us. We are so mighty, our entire species can be taken down by a microscopic, nearly invisible entity. We, whose numbers are large and whose influence seems boundless, can be exterminated by a virus. Our history of reproduction, colonization, and victory is primitive compared to what a virus can accomplish. Or a bacterium. Or bug. While hikers may fear a bear encounter, or swimmers a shark, so many more of us succumb to attacks by predators we have invited by invading their territory. We affect climate, we affect nature, we affect each other, but we blame all these things for their effect on us. We are as fragile as earthworms and fireflies; despite knowing we are mortal, we feel invincible. Therein is our weakness, our fatal flaw. Our footprint is large, but when we no longer walk this planet, the earth will quickly recover. Nature will overtake our cities, our homes, our factories, and malls. Birds will make nests in our plastic shoeboxes, cockroaches will eat our wallpaper, all species—known and unknown to us—will benefit from us having been here, but gone. And the planet—self-cleaning as it is—will eliminate the damage we have done, burying the indestructible with earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and all it has in its considerable arsenal, while life continues and makes use of our remains.
