A portrait of the late, great Austrian artist Egon Schiele. d.1918 / Original work was completed in watercolor and gouache media on Arches cold-press cotton rag.

Thees are some of the frames owned by a sketcher called Egon Huch. He works down at The Rocks 7 days a week and has been for the last 35 years, he is 82. His equipment shows its time. I was fascinated by his easel and belongings. He has a true pasion for what he does. He will sketch real life portraits or sketch from a photo.

Lots of people can’t see the man and the green shawl he’s wearing. That either means I can’t draw or they aren’t looking. This piece is in my sketchbook, but I can recreate it on a large scale if required, since I quite like this work. Ink and pastel on paper.

The peacock and the businessman, a one-sided love affair. The peacock attempts to impress the businessman saying: I could name 100 things you are to me. I’d like to spread out my feathers if you’d like me to. The businessman replies: I think you are 100 times more in touch with your own feelings than I am. The peacock’s reflected black and white feather patterns on the businessman’s shirt refer to empathy. Empathy means understanding and being sensitive to the feelings and thoughts of another – here the businessman is sensitive to the peacock’s feelings, despite his verbal reaction. The red cheaks and red highlights on the businessman’s face and shirt, as well as on the leaves, refer to projection, or more specifically the imaginative projection of the peacock’s subjective state (he is in love and emotionally wounded) into the object of his love (the man), so that the man appears to be infused with it.
