From the series “Lit by the Dark of the Shadow’. This image was the grand-daddy of them all – on the wall at 1300×900mm, whilst the other 13 were 700×500mm. I chose to do this one large as it pretty much summed up everything I wanted to address with this show. Journey and exploration, choice and consequence, and polarities such as ego and shadow, light and dark, positive and negative. We each present a side of us to the world that is bathed in light, goodness and fertility. We hide or suppress our darkness, our ugly bits of which we’re ashamed. My question within this show is, if we each acknowledge or experience our own shadow are we not more knowledgable about ourselves, and consequently the world we exist in?

I took this photo as part of my final project at art school in 2008. Dave was part of a collection of tattooed bodies at the Newport Tattoo Convention 2008, which is where I photographed him. I shot about eighteen people that morning and made a book illustrating their body art and stories behind them. Dave, who is a tattoo artist, had designed the image on his back, and had it tattooed on at the convention by a fellow tattoo artist.

This portrait is of my friend SId Robinson – a very interesting woman and probably the most “blissful” person I have ever known. Sid is and has been many things – Dominatrix, Healer, Life Coach, Yoga instructor… If any of those occupations seem irreconciable with each other – that is because SId like so many of us has lived many lives and sometimes the twists and turns on the road to light are paved with darkness…. All I know is that she is a joy to be around and the time I spent with her today taking her photos and working on her website was a labor of love… Besides, this could have very easily been a self portrait – I too have been many things: Punk Rock guitarist, Gothic/Celtic Harpist, Writer of Erotica and yes – a Photo-Manipulator!

This tiny bird (8cms or 3 inches), a male rufous hummingbird, is eager to beautify himself for “the ladies” of his world. He is a prolific “lover”, who enjoys mating with multiple partners. It took me forever to get this painting to be ok. / Had to lay it down and pick it up again, over and over.. / While working on it there was the strugle ( that is there more often..) between working from the soul and working from ego.. / Ego has th; I can use my tools to create this the way i want it to be.. the soul tells me to let it be.. accept the flow.. clearly this struggle is not only present while i paint.. but the painting helps me to see and understand more. Samsara in buddhism en hinduisme stands for the cylce of death and rebirth without a start and end, under the influence of illusion and karma and filled with agony. / The presence of the mentale states of desire, aversion and ignorance form an important aspect of the existence of Samsara. Music / / Samsara is the world as we ordinary human beings experience it, and where the mental and emotional states of desire, irritation and confusion often get the best of us. Samsara the Movie / “Samsara” is a spiritual love story set in the majestic landscape of Ladakh, in the Himalayas, about one man’s quest to find enlightenment. Tashi, a brilliant young disciple, is just completing three years of solitary meditation in a remote hermitage. Brought out of a deep trance, Tashi is taken back to his ancient monastery where he slowly recovers his strenght, but his return has unexpected results.
