Photograph “to see a video of Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole” CLICK This is a photograph I took of my youngest daughter. When my daughters were younger, we used to tell Faery stories at bed time and take turns adding to the story. The stories were very long and often times they would be very revealing, these were happy memories for us so…….. I wanted to capture what one of those characters might have looked like, she was a Tree Faery and her hair was a birds nest, egg included.

Inspired partly by an article about musician Holly Throsby and the workings of her mind. / I enjoy reading about creative and complex minds and I can identify with some of her anxieties. / I like to use metaphors to represent the state of mind, by using objects or fairytale themes that often seem simple can carry a great depth of emotive meaning. pencil drawing.

These two little babes are brand new; they hatched only one day ago. Mother Cardinal spends most of the time in the nest, keeping them warm, while Father Cardinal makes visits to the nest with grub worms and all sorts of goodies for the ravenous chicks. One of the three eggs didn’t hatch so that means more food for this healthy pair. Any sign of activity at the nest and these two pop up with bills wide open, anticipation quivering in every molecule of their tiny bodies. I’d like to dedicate this image to Kimberly Palmer who wanted a peek at these two after I mentioned they had hatched.

I’ve been watching Mama Chickadee very closely and noticed she was delivering worms and such to the nesting box. A quick peek inside and sure enough, the eggs have hatched and I see five baby birds. (Only four bills are evident here but trust me; there are at least five little ones in the nest.) There were six eggs so I’m not sure if baby number six is hiding behind his sibllings or if egg number six just didn’t hatch.

Acrylic paint on cnvas board. / 46X46cm Its definitely that middle season in between Winter and Spring in Western Australia. / The Aboriginals, who divide the year into 6 seasons (which is the true representation of the weather we get here) call it Meeringal. This season stretches from August to November. Does anyone have any info about this – I would love to know more. / Anyway, the sun is shining and the daytime temp hovers around 20C. / Its time to plant veggies and get some mulch on the garden ready for the long hot Summer. Here is another of my square paintings – started about a year ago in the Spring. / The butterflies are all that remain of the original design and hidden beneath the Bird dwells a Garden Angel. / Its all about doorways, souls, nuturing, hatching and blossoming. / I would welcome your interpretation of this picture with open arms. / Your views often give me a clarity that comes in very handy when I want to write the story behind each piece. / ArianeXX
