Mix medium photograph of a nest with 3 eggs and the Chinese characters LOVE, TRUST DREAM FORTUNE.
Black Throated Sparrows nest. Photo based mixed medium image.
Photograph “to see a video of Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole” CLICK This is a photograph I took of my youngest daughter. When my daughters were younger, we used to tell Faery stories at bed time and take turns adding to the story. The stories were very long and often times they would be very revealing, these were happy memories for us so…….. I wanted to capture what one of those characters might have looked like, she was a Tree Faery and her hair was a birds nest, egg included.
Mixed medium collage on various papers. Photograph of bird’s nest printed on Japanese rice paper with gouache staining and chinese calligraphy. Red square collage with bird head. Japanese block printed tree paper. Two leaves collaged onto Kinwashi paper. A fortune reads ” A pleasant surprise is in store for you”. The characters mean: love, trust, dream, and fortune.
Not long to go now…. This print is from original pen drawing, digitally coloured.
Digital collage
My Grandmother’s future family could not be in better hands, than her own…
These two little babes are brand new; they hatched only one day ago. Mother Cardinal spends most of the time in the nest, keeping them warm, while Father Cardinal makes visits to the nest with grub worms and all sorts of goodies for the ravenous chicks. One of the three eggs didn’t hatch so that means more food for this healthy pair. Any sign of activity at the nest and these two pop up with bills wide open, anticipation quivering in every molecule of their tiny bodies. I’d like to dedicate this image to Kimberly Palmer who wanted a peek at these two after I mentioned they had hatched.
Inspired partly by an article about musician Holly Throsby and the workings of her mind. / I enjoy reading about creative and complex minds and I can identify with some of her anxieties. / I like to use metaphors to represent the state of mind, by using objects or fairytale themes that often seem simple can carry a great depth of emotive meaning. pencil drawing.

a freehand drawing of a cute chick!
This is my first attempt at a bird close-up. This robin has set her nest in our garden shed and, even though I disturbed her a few times during her laying, she finished laying six eggs and is looking after them for the next 10-12 days until they hatch. I have tried taking a hand-held shot, but she would fly away as soon as she would see me. Thankfully she kept coming back to the nest, so I tried a different approach: I set up the camera on a tripod in the shed, about a foot and a half away from her, with the remote trigger cable outside and took pictures at random intervals as I passed by the shed. I couldn’t tell when she was in the nest and when not, so I’ve ended up with a whole lot of empty nest shots, but a few nice ones of the robin too. Focusing was an interesting challenge, as my lens hunts a lot in the dark and I didn’t want to disturb her too much, so I tried to pre-focus as well as I could on the empty nest. I would have liked it to be a bit more focused on the beak, but this will have to do! I now have to stay patient while the eggs hatch, and have another attempt, to try and get some shots of the young ones. I feel very cruel invading her privacy like this, but it’s such a great opportunity, potographically, that I can’t pass… I hope she will forgive me! :-) [Sony a350, Sigma 105mm, KM 3600D flash (bounced), f:16, 1/125, ISO-100, Converted from RAW) In case you are wondering, this is her brood: Update: We have now chicks! I love the music of the Renaissance, clear back in the early sixties I played soprano and sopranino recorders and shawm in a renaissance music consort when music of that period was first being appreciated here in the US. Below is some beautiful music from the period and beautiful images Renaissance Music I had to add this music and video, it is not a true renaissance music sound, but just too beautiful / not to take a see and listen.
