I wonder where this path leads? During a motorcycle trip to Georgia, I passed by this scene and just had to turn around. The ground fog was just wicked, it was shrouding this path which I presume belongs to a rural farm. Taken with the Nikon D300 and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lens. HDR processing and Orton effect applied, as well as some dodge & burn.

The phrase refers to the idea that a butterfly’s wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different.

This is another small garden of mine with a tree stump for the core of it with a birdbath dish resting on top. What you see here is what I see without the effects outside my window where I sit daily on the computer.

This intimate, bright yet dark, static yet flowing, autumn themed image was made in Baxter State Park, Maine, USA in October 2006. I like the contrast of the flowing water beneath the still branches, the pop of color from the remaining birch leaves, and the juxtaposition of the branch atop the stream in tone and color! /

When you first arrive here you have to wonder what you are going to find as there are just sheep paddocks as far as the eye can see, but once you walk down to the falls this massive crater opens up in one of the paddocks, it is such an amazing surprise. This location is a well known haunt for rock climbers in Summer. The track leading down to the base of the falls has been fenced off, but it is relatively safe to venture down. Metcalfe, Victoria, Australia Camera: Canon EOS 350D Lens: Canon 18-55mm @ focal length 18mm Exposure: 2 sec, f16, ISO 100 Filters: Hoya UV, Cokin 121S Grad ND8 HDR: AEB (-1, 0, +1) Tone Mapping: Photomatix Pro Processing: Adobe Photoshop CS This image has had the Orton Effect applied. The Orton Effect is named after photographer, Michael Orton. He basically would shoot two images of the one scene on slide film, the first sharp and over exposed by two stops and the second out of focus and over exposed by one stop. He would then sandwich the two images together in a slide mount to give an impressionistic view of the scene. This link explains how to re-create the effect digitally with photoshop. This is a photo of apple blossoms which I have given a watercolour look by messing about with various filters in PhotoImpact. I think it makes a nice card.

This is another image from Union Creek, Oregon during their prescribed burn last Fall. This image is different in that the sunburst is directly in the center and I have applied the Orten Effect for a challenge on vanishing points. So thanks for your patience in viewing this image again, but in a different form.

It was a freezing day while River and I were in the nature park. The trees looked cold but stood tall and strong. This is the same image as the first “Winter Blues” after Gigi told me that I should try a darker color for it. So it qualifies as my third try on this “effect thing” thanks to all the instructions and guidance from my “mentor” on this matter! I guess one could say that I love anything that has to do with nature including the living beings, the woods, the trees, the rivers and streams, and the mountains…. In a way, the trees represent longevity even though my “rational mind” knows they don’t live forever – my “passion” towards the trees is in its “illusion” of the ever lasting life, or perhaps what it always gives back to the earth in living or in death. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.

Prague seen from Petrin Lookout Tower (Petrinska Rozhledna), Czech Republic. More than one year ago, I’ve got fascinated by some overlay works presented in various PS fora. Last year, I found about RB and soon could admire beautiful composite works of e.g. John Edwards here at RB. Inspired by many of those images here at RB or elsewhere, I’ve been planning to put my hands on some overlay work too, but I only got to it in recent days, ultimately inspired by The Wilds Of France by onefourseven (thank you, Mat, both for inspiration and a link to textures!). / This composite is my first result on the theme, composed of my original photograph and three textures from cgtextures.com. Comments and suggestions welcome! Original photograph: May 2008, Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, BW conversion, curves, sharpening, sepia, color adjustment, shape cut, filter gallery, overlay by three textures from cgtextures.com with adjusted brightness/contrast/levels/color, color adjustment, blend modes; final file: 24 layers, 5540×3693px, approx. 1.5GB, color profile conversion 10min, saving time >5min.
