This was very well received last time, but my new Redbubble friends haven’t seen it yet. It’s now uploaded in higher definition and is finally for sale as a card.
I was browsing through a guide book I bought when I visited Brighton (England) and spotted a lovely gold dragon ornament situated in Brighton Pavilion. I was inspired to transform him into a flying dragon and set him free. THIS WAS FEATURED IN THE CASTLE MAGIC GROUP – 10th July 2008 THIS WAS FEATURED IN THE DRAGONS FIRE GROUP – 3rd October 2008
Another page in for the calendar collaboration with the fabulous photographer, John Edwards
Another in the prisoner series. Love binds us, restricts us, consumes us and can be a little messy. Model: Brent
This handsome orange tabby cat, loves Christmas because of the catnip mouse, Santa always left him in his stocking. / Jamie Wogan Edwards
This is the first in a series of three pictures inspired by our trip to Barcelona. It is loosely based upon Barcelona Cathedral. I started by copying in pencil the cathedral in a bendy style and then removed the photo so I wouldn’t be influenced by it any more.
I did this drawing in 1990. More recently I did a coloured version, using my own choice of colours of course :) FEATURED BY NORTH EAST ENGLAND GROUP – 17th February 2009
This scene is not from movie. This was in my mind while I was reading Twilight, the meadow scene. Done in Corel Painter, Photoshop with Wacom tablet.
This pub was demolished in 1891, so the photo I used will be in the public domain by now. It’s the first pen and ink I have done for a while and it took ages, hence the lack of new paintings :) The pub stood about a mile from where I live. Another pub with the same name replaced it. It’s A3 sized and I used Rotring Isograph and Rapidograph pens. Because of all the detail this didn’t photograph too well, so here is a close-up: /
I started this a few days ago and made a mess of the flower. I was trying to use colours I don’t usually use. In the end I even contemplated scrapping the picture and then, remembering I was using acrylic paint, I decided to paint the flower white and start again and I feel it worked for me. Don’t try to identify the flower – it only exists inside my head :)
I drew our younger cat Mitch in graphite and coloured pencils and then painted a grey upside-down L-shaped border using acrylic paint. When that dried, I drew (using a ruler) squares. I drew free-hand mosaic pieces in each square with fineliner pen and then erased the guideline squares and filled in the pieces with coloured pencils. Yeah – okay – I know it’s boring reading all that, but lots of people actually ask what mediums were used; myself included :) For anyone interested in getting to know Mitch and his step-brother Mao, I keep an occasional illustrated diary of their adventures here on Redbubble FEATURED BY BITS AND PIECES – 24th June 2009 FEATURED BY PAWS AND CLAWS GROUP – 26th June 2009 / FEATURED BY FOR THE LOVE OF CATS GROUP – 11th July 2009
This flower grows on the lush banks of my imagination. It’s difficult to define whether it is a flower or a butterfly. When it’s asleep I suppose it is a flower, but when it wakes, as it is doing here, it becomes a butterfly living inside a plant and occasionally flying off for a while. I used coloured pencils for this. And yes, I was a little inspired by Tiffany lampshades :) THIS WAS FEATURED BY THE FINE ARTS GROUP- 2nd July 2009.
This is a stylised coloured pencil drawing of our garden. The brick plant trough was built by my wife, but it’s straight – I bent it for effect :) Okay – not completely coloured pencil – I used blue acrylic paint for the sky :) The cat is a stylised version of our elder cat Mao (rhyming with cow and not with mayo). THIS HAS BEEN FEATURED IN FOR THE LOVE OF CATS GROUP – 11th July 2009
I used watercolour and indian ink, the latter applied with old-fashioned dip-in pens. The title alludes to a song by Shonen Knife. MUSIC THIS WAS FEATURED BY UNCONVENTIONAL ARTISTRY – 22nd July 2009
It’s ok to sparkle.
First in a series of shirts dedicated to people in history we should have listened harder to. Edward R Murrow was a revolutionary, a gentleman, a fighter and a fine dresser. He saw the horrors we faced through misuse of televised media more vividly than most. If the visual treats of the box were upsetting him in the ‘50s then he’d be completely shattered today…. It’s a halftone graphic based on an image of him smoking a cigarette in a dandy suit, but made from the contents of a smashed television I photographed after throwing it off a silo in Collingwood. With some words and circles and fluff and jazz. Really does look better 8 feet tall. / “Just once in a while, let us exalt the importance of ideas and information. Let us dream to the extent of saying that on a given Sunday night the time normally occupied by Ed Sullivan is given over to a clinical survey on the state of American education. And a week or two later, the time normally used by Steve Allen is devoted to a thorough-going study of American policy in the Middle East. Would the corporate image of their respective sponsors be damaged? Would the shareholders rise up in their wrath and complain? Would anything happen other than a few million people would have received a little illumination on subjects that may well determine the future of this country and therefore the future of the corporations? To those who say, “People wouldn’t look, they wouldn’t be interested they’re too complacent, indifferent and insulated” I can only reply: There is, in one reporter’s opinion considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach. It can illuminate and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it. towards those ends. Otherwise, it is merely wires and lights, in a box. Good night, and good luck.” Edward R Murrow
This is an homage to Madvlad, one of the most original artists on Redbubble. DO NOT CLICK HERE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN – DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK I got out of my comfort zone to do a portrait for a change. This is a labour of love, inasmuch as it is a tribute to my good friend Walt Evans, one of the most fascinating artists on Redbubble. I’ve known Walt since before we both joined Redbubble. I used a selection of photos Walt gave me of himself and his art. I have his permission to do this portrait too, so no copyright has been breached. The background is based on some of Walt’s designs with a lot of my own ideas thrown in for good measure. I used coloured pencils and fineliner pens. Here is a glimpse into the wonderful world of Madvlad: And here is a link to his portfolio. FEATURED BY FIRST THINGS GROUP – 2nd August 2009. FEATURED BY JOURNAL JUNKIES – 10th December 2009 /
Our cat Mao puts up with a lot from our younger hyperactive cat, who wants to play all the time. As a reward, I have depicted Mao with a halo of flowers :) Coloured pencils and fineliner pens. FEATURED BY FINE ARTS GROUP – 14th August 2009
There’s a story behind this one. I had been chatting with Adgray/Chookas about her Exceptional Ekphrasis Group and I suggested she choose one of my pictures from my portfolio and I would try to do a different version of it for the group. Adgray chose Meadowlark and asked if I’d do it in my mosaic style. Here it is and for the record, it is done using coloured pencils and Staedtler Fineliner pens on A3 sized white card. Here are the original drawings I did: FEATURED BY EXCEPTIONAL EKPHRASIS GROUP – 24th October 2009 /
