Scarification is a means of permanently marking the skin by cutting alone, without the use of pigments. The scars may be lighter or darker than your original skin tone and may raise up (keloid scarring). There are many ways to produce a scar but the cut must always penetrate the dermis if a scar is to be produced. The result depends as much on your skin as the method used. Black skin in particular is very good at producing pronounced keloid scars and this is a popular alternative to tattooing for people with very dark skin, for whom a tattoo might not show up very well. In many parts of Africa these scars are marks of beauty and a way to identify someone belonging to a particular group. Scarification also may mark one’s status as a civilized being, adult, or member of a specific ethnic group or initiation association. I spend a day in his school in a remote village of Benin to work on the Art in All of Us activities (www.artinallofus.org). I had really a great time thanks to the kids creativity. Please see some of their works on Benin Gallery ! hope you enjoy !! All proceeds from sales of pictures will go to the art education project of Art in All of Us (WWW.ARTINALLOFUS.ORG)

The cloisters at Glasgow University are a fantastic place to photograph. For me, they represent quite a challenge, but I think with this image, I’ve managed to capture what the cloisters are all about. Hope you like it.

Your Strengths...

I have been messing about with this internet stuff for somewhere between 2 years and friggin eternity. During this time, the major problem for me seemed to be trying to figure out exactly what it was that I wanted to do. Just like a little kid. One week he wants to be a fireman, and the next it’s an astronaut. I have heard it said that there are two kinds of people in the world, the ones that are focused to almost a neurotic level (that’s why they are so successful), and then those of us who want to do everything, until we get fairly proficient at it, then we want to do something else, because we get bored. I think that the last one is me. Anyway…during this lost in the fog time, a friend of mine named Tricia kept telling me that if I figured out what my strengths were and use them, I would succeed. That sounds easy enough, but it’s not. I think that part of our strength in any direction comes from desire. And for those of us whose desire has a time limit on it, it can be very frustrating. Upon figuring this out about myself, I started looking into what a strength really was. I was pretty sure that no one was going to pay me to drink beer and watch baseball, so I wanted to see what my strengths are, if they even exist. I am still trying to figure this out. Maybe my true strength is being able to survive quite well anywhere, while being totally clueless as to why I am there in the first place. Not a very impressive superpower though, I must say. Whilst I was wondering about, I came upon this. it seems to explain what a strength is. I don’t know who wrote it, as I had written it down in one of my lesson plan notebooks. Anyway, here it is….... “Talent” – A special ability that you were either born with. Or, developed when you were under 3 yrs old, in the areas of thoughts, feelings, or behavior. / + / “Education” – Information that is prepared for you to facilitate absorption. / + / “Experience” – What you have learned throughout your life, and pulled out of it as an observation. / + / “Skills” – Are the step by step instructions, that experts before you have refined for you to more easily learn any sort of activity, that you have accumulated. = / “Your Strengths” – What you do incredibly well, easily, and consistently. What do you think? Are these the magic 4 ingredients? Does this describe that thing we need to succeed? Please let me know what you agree with, and what you don’t.

Sorry folks, I can’t help myself – feeling happy. Just received my final assessment for my Freelance Photography course with Thomson Education Direct – it was an A. I achieved ten straight A’s for the course and I’m rapt. I didn’t take an easy way out when doing my assignments. I did more than required and that has been recognised by my tutor. I’ve just commenced the Professional Freelance Journalism course with Thomson Education Direct, and to date it looks very interesting. Time for a glass or two of bubbly. Cheers.
