  • “Maize, a basic staple. Yet, glorious Indian Corn colours grace autumnal days. Each grain weaves a pattern in a tapestry meticulously designed. Piled upon each other on a farm stand, the rich colours of the corn ears make a delightful array of surprising beauty. / / I find inspiration in the simple elements of Nature by discovering, at a closer look, their elaborated forms, their patterns and intricacies, their sheer beauty. They teach me a lesson on survival, too. The colour in the Indian Corn grains is governed, each, by a different gene. The pigment may aid in the defense against diseases, hence, a wide array of colours in a single corn ear raises the chances of survival.” / / / Read more about Indian Corn in my written article: / / Indian Corn- Nature’s Kaleidoscope. / / / / Image © Carmen Mandel-Cesáreo / / / —-—-—-—-—-——- / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. Among green, yellow, orange and brown, these plump strawberries stood in a sharp bright pink contrast. / / From a closer look, their skin became surprisingly aglow in sheer fuchsia. They beckoned to me: Now, come closer, take a photograph on us!.” / / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. • Apple
    by Leoni Venter

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Phew, this was harder than I thought it would be. It started as a fractal in Apo 3D. I then went to Vue 6 and mapped the fractal to the bottom of a sphere to make the bowl. In came the apple, a freebie found at TurboSquid, and I had hours of fun getting the colour and material just right. Then came the table, another freebie from TurboSquid, and I had some more hours of getting the surface just right. I had to rig spotlights to get the highlights where I wanted them. All in all, I worked perhaps 8 hours on it. Luckily the rendering itself didn’t take very long. / It’s a Golden Delicious, by the way.

  • Snail in Morning Dew
    by Anthony Vella

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This is the Maltese Edible Snail – Cantareus apertus. A once very common land Mollusk. Mercilessly hunted (gathered) for food as it is locally regarded as a delicacy ( like escargots), and poisoned by farmers who consider it a pest. A Hermaphrodite. It lays its eggs (between 40 and 60) in a hole it digs itself in the soft loose ground ( like Turtles, Tortoises, Aligators, Crocodiles etc.) It Hibernates inside rubble walls and under loose stones during the Summer months to preserve its moisture.

“Maize, a basic staple. Yet, glorious Indian Corn colours grace autumnal days. Each corn ear wears distinctive colours and texture. Gold, copper, mauve, magenta, brown, black, pink, orange … myriad combinations bring to life the glorious colours of Indian Corn. / / Glistening like tiny jewels, each grain weaves a pattern in a tapestry meticulously designed. Piled upon each other on a farm stand, these corn ears make a delightful array of surprising beauty.” / / / Read more about Indian Corn in my written article: / / Indian Corn- Nature’s Kaleidoscope. / / ========================================================= / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. • “Autumn brings along a radiant tapestry of harvest crops. Walking along the many farm stands, I indulge myself in the sheer presence of these simple, yet unbelievably beautiful vegetables and fruits. Amidst glorious pumpkins in the colours of rainbow, gorgeous strawberries and glossy gourds, the exquisite patterns and colours of Indian Corn stand out. / / Piled casually upon each other in baskets, the corn ears make a delightful array of vibrant beauty. Gleaming like tiny jewels, each corn grain bears a distinctive colour. Golden hues, brown turning into copper, mauve turning into magenta, chartreuse, pink mixed with orange, pure white and pitch black. Each grain weaves a pattern meticulously designed. / / I find inspiration in the simple elements of Nature by discovering, in a closer approach, their elaborated forms, their patterns and intricacies, their sheer beauty. They teach me a lesson on survival, too. The colour of each Indian Corn grain is goverened by genes. The pigment may aid in the defense against diseases, hence, a wide array of colours in a single corn ear raises the chances of survival. / / As myriad colours happen in a single corn ear, each one is unique in its design. Like a miraculous tapestry, Indian Corn humbly offers its beauty to my delight “ / / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. I never lure my animated subjects to come close to me: spontaneity is the key. / / This is an original uncropped image. / / / ======================================= / Read more about Indian Corn in my written article: / / Indian Corn- Nature’s Kaleidoscope. / /
