The Tawny Rock Dragon Ctenophorus decresii is listed as an endangered species in NSW. This photo was taken during our 2008 research on a population that we discovered in 2007 in western NSW. This individual is a male in breeding colours. Just when you thought his tongue wouldnt come out any further (check it out on view larger)................. I am just dissapointed that I didnt get the complete tongue in this shot…..........It will just have to wait to my next encounter. Oh, and the species is a Blotched Blue tongue lizard Tiliqua nigrolutea this time near Cooma in the NSW Snowy Mountains, Australia. Since ’...um, dad?’ I’ve become almost as obsessed with this phenomenon as I am with my passion for words . These things are all over Vancouver Island (Canada). Murals, yes they’re everywhere and they’re sometimes as beautiful as the graffiti on other buildings, but the ones on V.I. are quite specific. They have a ‘nature’ theme. Kind of insulting if you think about it. We so adore our natural beauty here that when we demolish it for parking lots, golf courses and condos we replace it with a nice mural of what used to be there before we demolished it for a parking lot or a golf course or a condo… There’s a Joni Mitchell joke here somewhere… I just can’t put my finger on it.

The Barrier Ranges in far-western NSW, is a remote, harsh environment, that will now be the home to one of the world’s largest wind farms: the Silverton Wind Farm. With around 600 turbines proposed, the NSW Government approved Stage 1 of the project (around 300 turbines) in June 2009 which will provide enough power for 450,000 houses! The image is best viewed large, and doesnt really do this massive landscape justice!
