An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when one celestial object moves into the shadow of another. The term is derived from the ancient Greek noun ἔκλειψις (ékleipsis), from verb ἐκλείπω (ekleípō), “I cease to exist,” a combination of prefix ἐκ- (ek-), from preposition ἐκ, ἐξ (ek, ex), “out,” and of verb λείπω (leípō), “I am absent”.[1] When an eclipse occurs within a stellar system, such as the Solar System, it forms a type of syzygy—the alignment of three or more celestial bodies in the same gravitational system along a straight line. The term eclipse is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse, when the Moon’s shadow crosses the Earth’s surface, or a lunar eclipse, when the Moon moves into the shadow of Earth. However, it can also refer to such events beyond the Earth-Moon system: for example, a planet moving into the shadow cast by one of its moons, a moon passing into the shadow cast by its parent planet, or a moon passing into the shadow of another moon. A binary star system can also produce eclipses if the plane of their orbit intersects the position of the observer / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is a digital fantasy art creation using my artwork and fractal art overlays created using Apophysis. This lunar photograph was made a little more than an hour before the start of the recent eclipse on Town Beach, Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. I was all set up with my feet in the wet sand, ready to set off the Timer when I caught sight of this moonlit surfer walking into shot. I could not believe my luck! I waited for him to get further into the scene and ….. here he is! Enjoy! MOON SHOTS / (Click the links!) • Moon Eclipse
    by Nando Machado

Something completely non-artistic… however, it’s a nice image (digitally enhanced, of course). I’ll probably take it down after a few days, depending on its popularity. I guess I just wanted to share the moment. This eclipse happened on February 20th-21st, 2008, shot in Brazil **Edit: This image is staying due to its surprising popularity! :)
