This heart has wings to fly away and capture anyone’s attention.
He stole the heart (the strongest one) / The one with wings that would have flown. He stole the heart (before it grew) / No note the harm deceit would do. He stole the heart (and sad to say) / Filleted its soul with fork and knife. He stole the heart (the one with wings) / But stronger souls can trump a King. Actual artwork is 12” x 12”. Mixed media mosaic, framed in 2” deep, distressed brown solid wood shadow box that can be opened. My work is hand-beaded by gluing each bead, jewel and embellishment one by one onto foam-core using tweezers and toothpicks. I love this kind of meditative labor. I use leather, brass and silver charms and hundreds of Czech and Japanese bugle beads.
“I believe that in our dreams our hearts are healed.” The cool blue color palette gives this piece a peaceful, meditative feeling. Actual artwork is 11” x 11”, Mixed media mosaic, framed in 2” deep, white lacquered solid wood shadow box that can be opened. Dreams Heal is hand-beaded using vintage Swarovski crystals, ceramics, brass embellishments, glass beads, rhinestones and hundreds of Czech bugle beads.
My grandmother, Virginia Loretta Gillin was my mother’s mother. She birthed 5 BIG boys and 2 girls and had a hard life during the depression. She was widowed with 7 kids and later lost her daughter, my mother, when my mom was only 44. Though deeply scarred by both deaths, she never wavered in her matriarchal hold on our family. My grandmother was the most genuine person I have ever known. I remember her warm, bear hugs and her sharp tongue. I remember canasta on long summer nights. I remember her honky-tonk piano playing. I remember a surplus of southern food on the table that I have never been able to duplicate. Rock on my bawdy Grandma. I love you. This piece was inspired by the poem “Born” by Wislawa Szymborska. Here is an excerpt: “So this is his mother. / This small woman. / The grey-eyed procreator. The boat in which, years ago, / he sailed to shore…” This original 9”x20” mixed media mosaic was created using Prismacolor pencils for the figure’s face, arms and hands. Her hair was painted with iridescent 3D paint. The dress was beaded with Swarovski crystals, a multitude of beads and a blazingly red Italian Murano Heart that speaks of the infinite love she was capable of during her long life. Her heart is pierced by an arrow—an indication of the heartbreak she endured. The ornate blue dress portrays her solid and genuine spirit, the white lace collar, her girlish side.
Our golden retriever, Abby Rose, sits in a garden of delights… butterflies, flowers and the two words she loves to hear most—GOOD DOG! Original is mixed media. It was created using Prismacolor pencils for the dog’s portrait and the garden. The garden was then beaded with dried flowers, a multitude of bugle beads, and Swarovski crystals.
Tennyson said “I am part of all that I have met.” / Those words inspired me to have lovely Dakota “meet” a prairie dragonfly and get zapped with an infusion of dragonfly zest! Original is mixed media and Prismacolor pencils.
With All My Heart Art is a sentiment any artist could use as their own personal motto. I’d be glad to share! Original artwork is a mixed media mosaic. My work is hand-beaded by gluing each bead, jewel and embellishment one by one onto foam-core using tweezers and toothpicks. I love this kind of meditative labor. I use vintage Swarovski buttons and crystals, beads, silver charms and hundreds of Czech bugle beads. This piece includes digital design with the original beaded artwork.
The original is an 8” x 10” mixed media mosaic. This piece was inspired by lesbian women devoted to raising children together. Two moms are better than one—twice the divine feminine power! I love the feeling in the silver figures. It’s a total lovefest. The colors surrounding them are joyous and the green is a symbol of female fertility. My work is hand-beaded by gluing each bead, jewel and embellishment one by one onto foam-core using tweezers and toothpicks. I love this kind of meditative labor. I use vintage Swarovski buttons and crystals, beads, silver charms and hundreds of Czech bugle beads.
Three views of a friend…three moods of a woman…a missed communication…on the outside looking in. The intended mood was one of disconnection and loss, because I was suffering from those feelings at the time. The painting was done in a traditional, realistic, oil portrait style except that I used a method called Grisaile (decorative painting in gray monochrome) for the figures. Traditionally, these gray figures would then be layered with multiple colored oil glazes to bring skin colors to life. I had intended to do that. I was doing a series of Grisaile paintings at the time. But the monochrome figures on the outside of the window seemed to allude to the loss of connection to the colorful inside room (loss of emotions). The phone again symbolized loss of connection to someone needed and dear. The original is a 24” x 36” oil on canvas. Signed by Diana Moore, my maiden name.
My daughter at 3 years old. Oil on canvas. I have replaced the previous photo with a new one showing truer color and more detail (including my lumpy canvas primer!) The actual painting has more background showing too, probably too much in retrospect. But I did show the moon in this shot.
“My Heart’s a Volcano” was inspired by Kahlil Gibran’s saying: “If your heart is a volcano, how shall you expect flowers to bloom?” I think that’s a sentiment designed to inspire a peaceful heart. However, it isn’t easy to cure a volcano heart! The original artwork is a 9” x 20” mixed media mosaic. / My work is hand-beaded by gluing each bead, jewel and embellishment one by one onto foam-core using tweezers and toothpicks. I love this kind of meditative labor. I use vintage Swarovski buttons and crystals, beads, a rich gold Murano glass heart, jeweled flowers, silver charms, loads of embellishments and hundreds of Czech bugle beads.
“Losing Heart” was a how I felt last summer when I was depressed about the way things were going. Mid-life and all can lead to feeling like truth, control, belief, desire and hope are illusions. The beauty of the colors in this piece and their careful arrangement are an expression of the spirit that keeps me going through trying times. The original artwork is an 11” x 11”, mixed media mosaic. / I created this beaded shrine to the swiftness of time with bugle beads, seed beads, rhinestones, Swarovsky crystals, metallic, silver, & brass embellishments. Flowers and feathers accent a velvety-rich pink and gold dichroic glass heart.
Horse and rider at festival in Menorca, Spain. The objective is to incite the horse to rear up on his hind legs and then see how long he can maintain the position or walk a distance on hind legs alone. All is executed under the skillful handling of the rider who is well trained in what has become a special art and huge crowd pleaser. The horses are extremely gentle and are not phased by rowdy crowds.
