  It’s finally up! My story, The The Bunyip Of Boobera, is now up and official over at Mystic Moon Press! / Here it is. Clicky clicky! / Cover art by David Bowman I’ve got an excerpt still here on RB, as I’d added it here for a brief visit originally. I’d had the story rejected for publication by ASIM (maaaybe aimed too high for a first outing…), so asked Kate for some editing help (thanks again!), and also got feedback from a few other folk too. The new shiny version went on to win the eBook competition in the WMG, organised by Ronnie, and judged by Mystic Moon Press, giving me an open door to publication! Now it’s out there on its own, and I can’t keep going over and over it and never letting go, as I can tend to do… nothing ever feels finished enough… which leads to nothing going anywhere. So 2008 has been my year of letting go. :)

There’s no overall title yet, unless I use the one from the journal but the components are below: / / When Moonlight Becomes You / Ring A Rosie / In Vino Spiritas / Wave A White Flag / To Tempt A Taste / Dawn of Shadows / / So I didn’t quite make the 5-Group mark. Despite potenial human sacrifice and an exiled vampire, it’s light and almost romantic, practically a romp. Now I’ll have to add a few words i really want to include, words like capricious , zest and knife ; find the link between the 2nd and 3rd pieces when my second character enters and decide how much Melbourne there should be. At the beginning it wasn’t set here specifically; then it took on the textures of my suburb, so now I’m wondering… because the plan is another Mystic Moon Press ebook.

  One of my favourite Wolf Hollow episodes comes out this week: / / / / It was one of the trickier episodes because I knew I wanted my gorgeous (even more gorgeous when he’s grubby) vampire Gabriel and I thought he was showing up in conjunction with a character who decided he’d prefer appearing in series 2. So. Bit of figuring out to do … and wow, saw Mark Greenmantle’s Pirate Queen Wrath ... I could see Scarlet with an axe. I could also see her wearing LittleHelen’s Raven on her stockings. And the fourth reason Epsiode 20 is one of favourites – I really like the stuff that turned up along the way. That includes notes for a future Gabriel story. If you’ve been reading along or are hanging out for The Print Book version… Tiga & Gabriel, the fey and the vampire.

Or at least long enough for me to get the next round of submissions under way. In Vino Spiratas – Halloween Incognition – November Bedevilled – December Before the Fall – January Give Quarter – January Rue the Day – February Welcome Home – February Indigo Dancer – March Wishful Thinking – March Which one am I most excited about? Welcome Home is the biggest at novel length and also the oldest, Rue the Day is a triumphant recovery, but Dancer came out of nowhere… promises to go interesting places, too. / For snippets about those and upcoming projects … Siren’s Gate And that list doesn’t include the 2 stories in Semaphore’s print annual. Or the other print project I’m still working out.

  March is going well and it’s all of three days old. I’ve heard from FOUR of my favourite editors including the marvelous Marie of Semaphore ... issue 2 is out now so I encourage everyone to download (it’s free!) and fill in the survey. The Siren’s Gate series @ Sputnik57 is back on track with the magical word payment invoked. For all the project notes clicky clicky: / / ~design by LittleHelen ~ Re Wolf Hollow @ Mystic Moon Press , the last lot of edits are sitting in my inbox which means The Book edition won’t be far off. I’m looking forward to that; not so much to the second series though as my Morningside charcters are rather appealing… I’ll have to lock them in a cupboard for a while. Later this month I should see the proofs for the April edition of Wolrds of Wonder and what might be the last of the Rogue Mapping serial unless I can figure out why Holly H and Zac are in that microbrewery with a woman who looks like their associate’s little sister all grown up. And to round off the morning, I had a free mocha.

  Yes, that’s a quote and it’s about the only LOTR one you’ll catch me doing as I am not a fan and I have no intention of watching the movies … ever. And don’t even think about suggesting Horrible Harry. I was going somewhere …. oh, yes! The line between righteously stubborn and ridiculously precious when it comes to approving edits on a short story due for ebook release later this year. I’ve been putting this one off because my hackles went up as soon as I opened the file but I couldn’t delay any longer. So, definitely keeping my spelling of “favourite” because it looks wrong without the u and that’s consistent for me. And I’ll compromise on this and this and okay this too. That’s the lightweight stuff out the way. Hmmm, could be a case of overthinking but those lines in italics just seems wrong because if they should be italics, why not those other ones there? They really don’t feel like internal dialogue. Tick the ridiculously stubborn box there and check with the editor rather than whoever did the proofreading – there’s a difference. Which is why I’m going to be precious and keep the word that isn’t a word and defend it by saying the character hasn’t had his morning caffe au lait yet so he can make up whatever words he wants. Also I’ve only had one cup of plunger coffee this morning.

  This is a poster created by Lynne Goodyer for the launch of a historical fiction Ebook written by Julia Ashton-Sayers and myself. / The book is to be releaed in conjunction with a memorial dedication for the Baker family, most of whom perished in a devestating flood near Burrendong, NSW. / The story is based on the true life events that took place prior to, during and after this horrific event, dating back to Australia’s early convict days. / A big thanks to Lynne for the work she’s done to produce the poster and so many others involved along the way, from Julia’s family researching their own history to friend’s support in reading and critique. / My own thanks go to Julia for involving me in this project.

  If I change a story from present tense to the more standard 3rd person omnipotent narrator I may be able to get it into the next payment category. As is That Girl is within a wink and kiss of 7000 words; what’s another 3000? I’m sure there’s a lot more mayhem Holly H can cause with a spear someone has been crazy enough to give her. And a probably haunted house? Nice. Plus, having been back in 3rd person for a couple of other longer Rogue Mapping episodes it does feel odd to open this file and have to adjust to the outside observer style. There’s scope for some internal stuff. Hmmm! We shall see.
