  • 30/12/2008: In the news today: Excessive shelling in Gaza. Many deaths are counted as both sides count their losses. Fred Nile wants a ban on topless female bathers on Bondi Beach, Police Commisioner Andrew Scippione says that this would be difficult to police as so many individuals take part in this. As waters get warmer around Australian beaches more sightings of sharks are appearing. The family of the recent shark attack victim pleads for the offending shark not to be put down. In sport, the Sydney to Hobart race has resumed for another year. Accolades have been rewarded to the crew that saved the other ailing ship. Marcos Baghdadus is back in Brisbane quoted as saying that he “loves coming back to Australia”. The Australian cicket team lick their wounds after the massive loss to South Africa. In useless news socialite Paris Hilton hits Sydney shops and is reported to be paid $100, 000 as other reprorts will be that it will be in the hundreds of thoasands of dollars. She walked Bondi Beach for the predictable mob magnatised walk. Some chose to throw sand at the socialite. A sicophant asked her if it was “annoying”, the socialite muttered somthing. For a single appearence to a new year’s eve party in Sydney. She is here with her sister Whatshername. Many locals rush and scramble to get a glimse of the hotel chain heiress. Paris Hilton was reported to have said somthing but that doesn’t really matter.

  • Today I had my Muse, Ebony in the park. I got her a no frills no name brand of shiny leggings and an original t shirt. we took some really fantastic photos and life was good for this one last moment in 2008. There were no bombs, there were no blonde waste of spaces giving vaccuous comments. we didn’t give a shit who won the cricket and we saw the eels and fish get on with their lives in their own pond as we got on with our own today. We walked where Michael Hutchence did, we crossed paths with Henry Moore and the Channel Seven helicopter. There was an electricity about this place. Everyone was on holiday but there were quite a few not present who I assume were in reserve to go crazy for tomorrow’s new year’s eve celebrations. I told Ebony that this was the calm before the storm. It was only about 3pm and I made a premonition that this time tomorrow there would be absolutely no room to move let alone take some great photos and be left alone while do them.

  • What I think needs mentioning is that with this shoot the suprises really made the photos what they were and they took little to no effort in producing. These leggings were very affordable and the shine is liquid sex. The sad thing is that the retailer that I got these from have stopped making this style and texture. I was lucky to have bought two of every size as a sort of Noah’s Ark of leggings, I was buying these things as if they were going out of style. Then the shop stopped selling this particular style. The shirt is an original. At one point Ebony and I did a shoot infront of the shop: “Spotted Magpie” in Paddington earlier that day. On another pair of leggings I spent about $80 on a pair of leggings athat although they were blue didn’t have the impact that these affordable ones did. I bought an East German officer’s cap for Ebony to wear and although I gave it to her for helping me with my photos this earlier today. All this effort won’t be on display as I am yet to find a shot from this shoot that is worth showing you. All the visual effects couln’t save the shoot. The magic happened when Ebony and I ventured to the Domain then the AGNSW then THe Botanical Gardens. We did so many great shots that I think to be fair I will have to limit them to the best 10. I must have taken at the most 150 shots or more today. I deeply regret not showing you the earlier shoot but I may release a picture or two at a later date.

  • It was so hot and I must thank Ebony for being such a professional and mature Muse. I did more complaining and winging on the walk back. I decided to treat my muse to an impromtu Hikue that was in dedication to her: “Sydney Harbour on her shirt, Sydney Harbour in the backround, Sydney Harbour all around”. I think she smiled. I was so self exsorbed that I had to work tomorrow night, so did she. we are not famous artists. We could walk through a crowd and not get noticed. It wasn’t Beatle-mania, it never will. A chance that the $19.95 wig made the grade and it was great. The only musing my Muse had was that the bow that was sewed into the wig was making it look a bit naff. I suggested that it would be a welcome prop, so we accepted it. I spent about $30 on two pairs of sunglasses. The white ones cost $20. They made the best visuals.

  • A copy of this colour shirt has a painting I did of my other Muse, Dani. Ebony really wants to do a shoot with her. The shirt is an original prototype for one that I am selling here on Red Bubble. The other shirt Ebony wore today is another hannd painted design by myself that I sell only at the Paddington shop Spotted Magpie. Originally I was going to have the shoot’s location at Lavender Bay but that would have limited it to just Lavender Bay. At least with ttoday’s shoot most of the locations were at an arm’s grasp. If I were to have had the shoot at Lavender Bay it would have been a long train ride over the bridge, then a walk to the site location then do it all in reverse and this would all be too much of a hassle. I think I have milked the homage to Brett Whiteley that it’s all fromage now. I am aquiring my own style notwithstanding my own little appropriations here and there. On the way back, homeward bound I suggested to Ebony that we should take a squize inside theCircular Quay Ken Done shop. We did and it only lasted one short minute. He sold his t shirts for $39.95 and I sold mine (hand painted and totally original at Spotted Magpie) for $100.

  • These rubber gum-boots are Ebony’s. I thought that they would look great and they did! No troublesome heels yet we did take turns in lugging a giant bag of props from location to location. Lucky they had wheels. I took some great shots. sydney had a bridge and an opera house and I thought that I should show you. I did a few effects with the exposure in post production but not much with the colour, there was no need. I felt that there was no need to get my money’s worth of the other shoot. I was not happy with it and so I am only displaying what I think is the utmost best. Today was great. It was rare, I don’t usually go shopping and spend heaps on clothes I am not going to wear but Ebony looked great with them on. she was wearing my shirts that are now hers. The sun was pleasant to walk through, it was a haze to go home from. I had a dream of Ebony and I at some store. We were at a seaside cafe, it could have been a posh one in the Opera House, it was a dream so it could have been anywhere. I woke up to the international backpackers of the surrounding flats of the block I live in. Their loud voices full of dumb comment. This shoot is the only salvation fom this pathetic soundtrack that is going on outside. I am really pleased with today’s effort. It didn’t rain. It meant that alot of the locations could be safe to sit on a rock or roll in the grass and not be tainted by wet grass. simple pleasures that cost nothing that we all take for granted. Stuff we just all walk past or walk over and forget that this could make the day a dainty one to be enjoyed.

  • What makes these moments so special is that we don’t do this everyday. I hardley ever see Ebony as she is so busy with her work and her art, and her life and she lives so far away. I tend to plan my wardrobe for her to wear days, weeks in advance. I always like to make enough choices but not too many as this could make the post production process a mess as much as the shoot a conceptual mess. What to do with it all? I can’t get her to wear everything all at the same time., that would be ridiculous. What is needed is the right combination and the lighting and efects can come later but its the moment and the attitude that really make the photo. You either notice it or you don’t. The secret is that the Muse needs to enjoy it. she will be a mess of angst if the stage is not set right. I made sure she had plenty of water, I knew it was going to be a hot day and that the sun could wreck or ruin it if we wern’t careful. The one thing I overlooked was that fact that I didn’t apply sunscreen to Ebony or I. My arms were red the night after. Also an application of Aeroguard mozzie repelant would have gone down a treat too.

  • So as wars in Gaza get deaths of innocents trapped in the crossfire for each and every dollar spent on a useless entity in a socialite I have to ask, where is the “financial crisis”? Is it that the sky really isn’t falling? The media will tell you what they want you to think but the media’s job is to tell you the truth. It is up to you to decipher it from fiction. When alarmist reporting are saying that the new year employment in Australia will reach one million I wonder what use is Paris Hilton for? She surely doesn’t make us forget our own miserable lives as we just see her as a living insult to our lifestyle. Yet the populous eat it up. They can’t get enough. It is trash and it’s on most people’s menus. Pornography is still taboo but Paris Hilton, famous for being famous keeps getting famous for doing nothing.

  • Carry Me © 2009 Annie J Lemay This is the second image of the same subject, but posed in a different angle, and in color. It is for my brother who I pass this cross on to, and my mother who passed it on to me when my father passed. My father received this cross when he was a little boy in 1945, and I the ebony carving when I was a little girl. My Nikon was only 2 weeks old to me when I took this image, everything was so foreign to me in the digital world. It was just an instant that I imagined the two together, before giving away the cross I wanted a keepsake, the weight of my fathers memory, he carries me, just the memory of him, and his wisdom he had.
