TITLE OF ARTWORK: / ~MIKE THE MOUSE~ ARTWORK CREATED ON: Paper APPROXIMATE SIZE: 8.5”x11” inches. MATERIALS USED: Ink , Spray paint , Watercolors , White-Out Pen , Markers. Signed by the artist and completed in January 2007. ABOUT THIS: Mike is a mouse that I met back in 1995 when I was working in a secret government lab testing growth hormones. In the month of April we were testing a group of hairless mice. All of the other mice died within the first two months of testing but one mouse had something I guess “extra.” I special gene that was compatible with the hormone that we were giving him. Within the first week he had already grown to twice his starter size. Within the first month he was the size of a small dog. At the end of the first six months Mike the mouse didn’t really look like a mouse any more. His arms and legs hands and feet were very long and skinny and he was the size of a truck. Finally the higher up government officials took mike away because the experiment was getting too dangerous for the scientists. By my calculations based on Mike’s previous growth rate – today in 2007 mike should be six times the size of a eight story building. Mike I hope we meet again someday.

The Lens That Got Away... Again

MUST READ – eBay international scam warning Well I got home yesterday only to find out an item that was sold on eBay, turns out it was part of an international scam. The story goes like this. A friend of my daughter has an eBay account where he sells things regularly. So he has an established seller rating and a Pay-Pal account already set up. So he offered to put a couple of items up for bid for me for a percentage of the money made. I decided to make Him a better offer. I told him I only wanted $300 for the item so anything above that would be split 3 ways. One third to my daughter one third to my daughter’s boyfriend and the final 33% to my daughters friend for posting the item and getting all the online stuff taken care of. This is where the story goes south. Turns out the guy who posted the item, got a buyer from Nigeria who wanted to buy the item for $500. So greed and stupidity set in. He thought this was great so he got the address for my daughter so she could box and mail out the items. Well the deal between the three of them was that my daughter would pay for shipping and that amount would be subtracted from the $200 then split three ways. It was going to be a nice little payday for such a minimal amount of effort. Well it cost my daughter about $80 to ship it internationally to Nigeria. AFTER the item had already shipped we found out the email he got from Pay-Pal was where the scam started. He got a threatening email from what he thought was Pay-Pal. It said if the item didn’t ship that day they were going to freeze his Pay-Pal account. Without his Pay-Pal account it would be difficult for him to sell his other items. The Pay-Pal email was a fake email. How did he find this out? He wondered why the money wasn’t in is account yet so on Friday he decided to call Pay-Pal. This is when we learned about the scam, they said they never sent the threatening email. So my daughter did a search online and found a blog where other eBay sellers had shipped items to the exact same address in Nigeria. Those people got the exact same threatening email from Pay-Pal. Everything about the scam looked exactly the same. Another huge lesson here, if it seems too good to be real then it just might be. Why am I telling you this? It’s just a warning to other eBay sellers out there, there is a well documented international scam going on. So be careful. I still get a lump in my throat over this one. You see I was going to buy a Tamron 90mm macro lens with that money. I found it online for $399 with free shipping. So close and yet so far looks like the lens has passed through my fingers again. Last time I was so close to getting it I dropped my iPhone and shattered the screen and had to buy a new one. It wasn’t covered by a warranty so I was out the money for a new phone. Someday I will get my lens just not today.

Buyer Beware - The sad tale of a 50D, lens and battery grip
by Paul ThompsonI hope this is a warning to anyone…
I hope this is a warning to anyone who is thinking of buying a camera on eBay. A couple of weeks ago I sold a camera on eBay. The instructions to the buyer was to deposit the funds directly into my bank account. Sadly, he didn’t do that, but put them in my PayPal account. As I didn’t have a bank registered with PayPal I could not access them. Plan A was to buy a Canon EOS 50D Premium Kit from one of the local camera stores. I had one on the hold shelf waiting. Plan A fell into a hole. Rather than wait the time to register a bank with PayPal, get my funds, and buy my camera locally, I decided to buy one of eBay. I found a 50D kit at a reasonable price, which incidentally was slightly more expensive that I could buy it from my trusty local camera shop. (I won’t tell you who the shop is … Photographic Wholesalers in Adelaide. :-o They are good.) Anyway, I purchased a Canon 50D, 18-200mm lens, and BG-E2 Battery Grip from, what looked like a reputable eBay shop. They claimed to have 3 cameras on hand and they were located in Melbourne. I paid my AU$2850 within minutes of committing to buy the goods. That was 12 days ago – it has been a long 12 days. The day after I made the purchase I emailed the seller and got no response. Two days after I made the purchase I again emailed the seller. Same result. Three days after, eBay delisted the seller from their site and my purchased goods disappeared from my “Won Items” folder on my eBay account. Thankfully I purchased with PayPal, but a resolution was far from happening quickly. PayPal do provide guarantees against being ripped off, but it is a very slow and tedious process. About 5 days after the sale, after PayPal and eBay had contacted the seller, I received an email saying he would honour the sale and send me the Camera, Lens and Battery Grip. That was a week ago. Last thursday the seller again promised to send my goods, but said he was waiting to receive stock. (He did say he had 3 on the shelf). He promised to send them on Friday. On Friday he promised to send them Saturday or Monday… Do you see a theme happening here? I have to say that both eBay and PayPal were initially very responsive and helpful. All I can hope for is a resolution of this saga before too much longer. I do have my Dad’s original 110mm bellows film camera that was made in the 1930s, and I may be using it for my main camera! So anyway, buyer beware. Paul

... that this is the most favourited of all my work, at 32 favouritings and 890 views. It amazes me because: / - It took me about 40 minutes to do & / - She looks so annoyed & / - I don’t think it’s one of my better works by a long shot. Just goes to show, we have no idea what we are talking about when it comes to our own work! To think, I sold this on Ebay for $79 … well at least the buyer told me it was professionally framed and gifted to her sister and sits on the wall in her bedroom. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about, getting work out there rather than it piling up getting damaged in a store room. Just wanted to share.

TITLE OF ARTWORK: / ~ CRAZY OLD MAN ~ ARTWORK CREATED ON: Paper APPROXIMATE SIZE: 8.5”x11” inches. MATERIALS USED: Spray Paint, Ink, Watercolors , White-Out Pen , Markers. Signed by the artist and completed in February 2007. ABOUT THIS: For some reason I see crazy old men everywhere.. Yes I know it sounds unusual. On my street corner holding moldy bread and shouting at the cars passing by.. In gas stations just trowing stuff on the ground.. In the park just staring at me making random animal noises. There is another crazy old man that spent four hours after basicly forcing himself into my apartment telling what hell looked like.. The sad thing is when I am old man I think I’m going to be the craziest of them all..

New Toys
by Faith HunterInspired by Jules Campbell and kitsmumma I re…
Inspired by Jules Campbell and kitsmumma I recently dug out an old Brownie Model C I had lurking in the back of a cupboard and started playing. My TTVs have been pretty basic to this point, more just getting my head around the concept and some ideas for what I’d like to do with it. I’ve also had to make a small detour into some research into shooting in RAW to deal with the miniscule size of the files I was creating. The Brownie has some wonderful dirty lenses but the size of the viewfinder was well and truly doing my head in so I finally bit the bullet and hit eBay. I laid down some pretty reasonable maximum bids and sat back and waited. The good news is that I am now the proud owner of a Kodak Duaflex IV AND an Argus 75. The bad news is that the Australian dollars subsequent plummet meant these cost me a bit more than I was expecting. All is forgiven however as I am now well and truly enamoured of my new toys. When I’m carrying the Duaflex IV I AM Clark Kent! And I am really loving the size of the viewfinders in comparison to the Brownie. If I had to have a whinge it would only be to say that the lenses in these two cameras may be just a tiny bit too clean! (I know, I know, terrible reflections, Argus shot needs mirroring, I took these shots very very hastily and I think we can all agree that is reflected in the shots themselves. Things will get better!)
