This is a little Photo Impact on what we call a Katy Did! I had quite a nice time with this little critter this morning and he posed several times; I think this one was probably the best. It was such a strange coincidence that I stumbled across this little dude (velveteagle has informed me that it is actually a ‘dudette’) when I did. My sister captured a green one not three days ago and it was the first time I’d ever seen a praying mantis. EVER. She started telling me that there are all different kinds (like brown ones that look like sticks) and I said I didn’t believe her. Then today I was out shooting in the fields and low and behold; a weird brown mantis thing! I didn’t even know they lived around here! Just goes to show what kinds of things our eyes are open to when a suggestion is put in our heads :) © Cadence Gamache

This insect eater uses sticky leaves to collect insects. Those ‘drops’ you see are quite sticky – not water at all. Drosera Capenesis is quite easy to grow. It does require lots of light and loves the Humidity. Featured in the Macro group – September 2008

I know it has a bit of a blown highlight. But it was close to noon, you couldn’t avoid it (except with an umbrella, I realise now). Still, I was (up until I realised I should have used an umbrella if I had one) fairly happy with this shot anyway!

What can I say…. I can’t start the day without my egg for breakfast, & the things I most love to photograph are the mundane, everyday objects that we so often overlook. / Seemed ideal to me.

I think this is an ordinary European honey bee Apis mellifera, consuming nectar and pollen from the flowers of a giant dill / fennel plant (grown from feral varieties found locally), in a fenced backyard garden, Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. Honey-bee colouring varies. This one has a comparitively light brown-on-brown stripes.
