After showing off as jewellery, this little fella decided to grace the lotus flower. Some of my other nature shots
This is a further interpretation of a previous painting- sometimes I love the theme so much I have to keep revisiting it to do it better. I love the way the rainbow bee- eater’s colours glow against the earthern backdrop- it tunnels deep in the ground to nest, and I love that contrast. Go to Deb’s website for more info on workshops, giclee prints, sculpture and news on this North Queensland Australian Artist.
We came across this little Echidna waddling / beside a road near Bunyip, Victoria, Australia. / Any hint of movement or noise and he would / quickly bury himself. One of my best and most rewarding shots for the day … / Yarra Dam 22nd/09/08 Canon 450D / Settings: / Tv 1000 / ISO 800 / taken on an overcast day. The rest i put down as luck and knowledge of where these birds feed! Best Viewed Large
Here are 5 great reasons to eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables A DAY They’re packed with vitamins and minerals. They can help you to maintain a healthy weight. They’re an excellent source of fibre and antioxidants. They help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers. They taste delicious and there’s so much variety to choose from. No such advice in the 1980s when all that mattered was the Wacka Wacka Wacka sound of the gobbling yellow circle as you risked RSI and frittered away your pocket money on endless attempts to beat the days high score. How times have changed!
Driving back from finding the surf to be dismal i spotted a group diving for insects above the sand dunes. Rainbow Bee-eaters gather in small flocks before returning to summer breeding areas after over-wintering in the north (apart from the resident northern populations). Both males and females select a suitable nesting site in a sandy bank and dig a long tunnel (average length: 89.4 cm) leading to a nesting chamber, which is often lined with grasses. The Bee-eater rubs bees and wasps against its perch to remove their stings before eating them. Nikon D200 / Nikon 300mm f4
I believe this is the same extended family group that has been at this spot for over a week now, down to perching on the same trees. Today i think i found the nesting tunnel in the side of a dune. I am a little bit worried they nested to close to the road and it might get disturbed. LIke Kookaburras this species breeds as a communal group with everyone helping out.
Bringing my new-found oils techniques to a much explored subject- loving those brilliant fauve colours!

This cheeky little fellow has made his home in a house boat roof on the Noosa River, Noosaville. Common Swallow, they move very fast, I was surprised to have caught this frame by sheer fluke :) Canon 50D 300mm.

During the winter in north Idaho redpolls migrate down from Canada. These two were part of a group that spent the winter at the bird feeder in our backyard. They preferred napping on the ground in places somewhat dry and sheltered. Further north they like to sleep in snow tunnels that keep out the cold wind. The original is painted in water mixable oils on 16”x20” canvas.
