  • the angel of the north, reworked from an earlier image, i liked the way the people stood around gave the scale of this wonderful piece of art

  • The “Conversation Piece” consists of 22 copper-bronze statues near The Groyne lighthouse at Littlehaven Beach, South Shields. Designed by Spanish artist Juan Munoz they have been a talking point for the last few years. Oddly, from a distance you can never be sure who is talking to who – human or statue!

  • St. Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, UK

  • One of the first street shots I ever took back in 1964 in the East End of London. This was before Playstations, and probably the only ‘toy’ these kids shared between them was a skipping rope. Old bomb sites still held a fascination though as a form of amusement and exploration, as can be seen here. It was taken using a Yashica Mat 120 film twin lens reflex camera that took me six months to save up for. I used Tri-X B/W film and printed on a hard grade of paper to get the punchy contrast, a characteristic of all my early B/W work. This image was photographed digitally from the original print in my portfolio. © 1964 John Hooton Photography

  • East Gill Force is a waterfalls in Swaledale, 300 metres to the east of the hamlet of Keld, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire, England. The falls are located on East Gill at grid reference NY896012, just before its confluence with the River Swale at the point where the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Walk intersect. The falls are a popular spot for visitors, not just long distance walkers but also families and picnickers because of the close proximity of the road. East Gill Force has two main torrents: the upper falls have an impressive 4.5 metre drop while the lower section is a series of stepped cascades that fall three metres as East Gill enters the River Swale. / East Gill Force is one of four waterfalls in the Keld area, the others being Kisdon Force, Catrake Force and Wain Wath Force and occur where the river cuts a gorge through the carboniferous limestone between the hills of Kisdon and Rogan’s Seat. The falls in this area are called “forces” after the Norse word “Foss” which means waterfall. The falls are surrounded by deciduous broad leaved woodland. / Coordinates: 54.40615°N 2.16172°W / Shot with a Nikon D70s and 18-70mm lens /

  • After I demonstrated a few wave painting techniques, I later thought to join them up into a painting! A Spontaneous watercolour! Watercolour 14” x 10” on Bockingford rough 140lb. So far, nobody has spotted the little men in white shirts, clinging for life, to the torn-off mast (left side of painting). I’ve entered this into Impressionism Cafe,‘seascapes’

  • Up and about early this morning with a promise of wonderful light, it did not disapoint !! This is a view of Marsden Rock, South Shields in the North East of England, on the beach was just me and a guy walking his dog, a great way to start the day !!!!

  • Mersea Island, the most Easterly populated island in the UK, may not be renowned as a photogenic location, but, standing here at East Mersea, with the gently flowing seawater lapping against the tops of the wellies, with the line of posts so obligingly composed, and with the glorious colours spreading across the late afternoon sky, it was possible for a moment or two to believe that this was the most beautiful place on Earth. Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 30 seconds at f/13.

  • The National Trust-owned Horsey Windpump overlooks Horsey Mere, an internationally renowned site of special scientific interest. The Mere (from the Dutch word meaning “lake”) is an important site not only for wintering wild fowl but also as the home to a colony of natterjack toads. Canon EOS 20D; EFS 17-85mm lens Exposure of 1/50 second at f/18.

  • Herringfleet Mill can be found where you might least expect to find it – about twenty yards on the Suffolk side of the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Given Norfolk’s monopoly on spectacular, well-preserved mills, it seems only fair that neighbouring Suffolk should have a few of its own…although it should be noted that even this mill is officially in the Norfolk Broads. This photograph was taken on an extremely February day. A 13 seconds’ exposure captured the movement of the clouds as they raced across the East Anglian sky. Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 13 seconds at f/22.

  • My First Visit to Leeds Castle / Looking through the blossom. Easter Flowing Beauty at Leeds Castle Kent UK. On this photography trip, I thought “I’ll go out and only take my 50mm prime (no Zoom capability) with me, this meant that for every single shot, to get the framing right I had to move rather than the lense. It was really interesting. Peoeple were watching me much more than normal, I had to duck down, stan tall, kneel in mud and walk back or walk forward, just to get the framing right. It was a good exercise because what you do get with a prime lense is pure light and quality of glass. It’s obvious in the sharp details in the 170 pictures I took on this shoot. I’ll definitely try it again. However, only taking the 50mm prime did hhave it’s limitations as well. I couldn’t get close enough to some subjects to capture the detail that I’d like to have. However, next time I can alway take along my zoom with me. One good things about Leeds Castle, it cost £16.50 to get in, but that enables you to go back as my times as you like within one year. So I’ll definitely be back to capture some more wonderful scenes from here. The place is a choc-box full of delights for any photographer or artist. It’s magical and amazing. / Camera. Nikon D700 50mm at ISO 200 /

  • Take one of East Anglia’s most photogenic windmills; add a generous dose of superlative-defying colour and light; and last but not least, stir in the fine company of 4 first-class landscape photographers friends. The result? Herringfleet Heaven! Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 1/5 second at f/16.
