Abstract
Named for a Tori Amos song thatmakes me cry pretty much every time. yeh, i know… i am SUCH a pussy heh. / I was still pretty down and not making any money. I was pretty insecure about this piece and didn’t show it until it had been framed for a couple of months. It is pretty much pure escapism, with darker undertones of course. / The girls don’t really exist, though I think that the place does, I found the pic of the tunnel on the net and got carried away adding my own stuff to it. / There is my left hand-print drawn into the light in the middle of the tunnel; starting a sort of trade mark with that I guess. / I do find solace in my work often, though it really is work and not play. This is a good example. It is somewhere, some elsewhere, a long way from where I was, dreamy surreal and dark. I love chiaroscuro and use it constantly, but why the hell not? The symbolism is a bit obvious now I think about it – “look there’s a light at the end of that there tunnel!” but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t really matter at all, does it?
Wake Up Call / Available as a framed print, poster and card. / Mixed Media In the millions of years of the history of the earth there have been hundreds of pole reversals. / These changes trigger drastic climate changes resulting in drought, flooding, earthquakes with deadly results for for the inhabitants of this planet. These ruins are situated outside the city of Chincha, a medium-sized city near Pisco, in Peru. / / This photograph was taken approximately 3 1/2 months after the August 15 2007 earthquake that devastated this part of the Peru. / / Artist proceeds from internet sales of cards and prints of this images will be donated to: / / Hands On Disaster Response / ... a volunteer-driven, non-profit organisation, dedicated to timely disaster response and relief. They strive to provide hands-on relief to survivors of natural disasters with maximum speed and minimum bureaucracy. Their focus is on applying volunteer resources and expertise to disaster-affected communities around the world. This image was taken while the artist was working on location with them in Pisco, Paracas and Ica in the aftermath of the August 2007 Earthquake. In August 2007, a major earthquake devastated a number of Peruvian cities, including the city of Ica. This photograph was taken approximately four and half months after the earthquake on the day that UNICEF organised a special activity day for the thousands of children who lived in Ica. The photograph was taken while we waited for transport to go the stadium where the festivities were being held. The day itself was all about fun and games and treats for the children but reality was rather sobering, that these children had lived through something more terrifying than most people will ever see in their lives, two and half minutes where the world literally shakes buildings to pieces. / / Location: Ica, Perú / Proceeds from sales of this image will be directed to Hands On Disaster Response This organisation provides assistance in disaster zones during the initial stages of the emergency. HODR volunteers arrived in Pisco shortly after the earthquake and were there, helping the people of Pisco, Ica, Chincha, Paracas and Cañete til January 2008.
This apartment building awaits demolition more than three months after an earthquake devastated Peru’s coastal city of Pisco on 15 August 2007. Dust still hangs in the air, giving an eery glow to the streets as daylight fades, a legacy of more 100,000 buildings that were destroyed or seriously damaged in the two minutes when the earth literally shook. Carlos, the taxi driver whose car can be seen in the base of this image went out of his way to show us this building. The house where he lived with his young son, a few miles from this spot, was one of the many that no longer stands. The halo around the lamp is an effect of the dust in atmosphere (and not a digital manipulation as some might think). Its visibility is enhanced by the slow shutter speed necessary to capture such an image as the sun had long since disappeared below the horizon. The building is truly leaning, a result of the earthquake that destroyed so much of this city, including the lives of four individuals who were in the lower floor (now destroyed) of this apartment building when the earth started to shake. All artists proceeds from sales of RedBubble prints from this image will be used to assist those, like Carlos, who have lost their homes to rebuild. / This image was recently selected for exhibition in Melbourne’s Brunswick Street Gallery. It is also included in the America del Sur – 2009 Calendar, available here. / /
A BMX rider passes a church building next to the site of Pisco’s San Clemente Cathedral in December 2007, three and a half months after the earthquake that destroyed more than 90 per cent of the city’s buildings, including the cathedral, leaving over 100,000 people homeless. / / / / 50 per cent of the artists proceeds from sales of this image on RedBubble will be donated to Hands On Disaster Response This organisation provides assistance in disaster zones during the initial stages of the emergency. HODR volunteers arrived in Pisco shortly after the earthquake and were there, helping the people of Pisco, Ica, Chincha, Paracas and Cañete til January 2008.

I did this simple T in order to collect money for the rebuilding of schools in Sichuan. / I have spent some time in Deyang last year teaching, and found this to be a life changing experience. / With all things happening in China, we tend to forget that an average person has nothing to do with big politics, yet gets hit the most when a disaster happens. / Please buy a T and 100% of the proceeds and the names of all buyers will be passed directly to the effort of rebuilding Sichuan schools. The Writing reads “Help Si Chuan” (yuan zhu Si Chuan).
This illustration was done for the quake survivors in Sichuan, China. The meaning of this illustration is two-fold: First, I imagine if there were a huge panda (Sichuan is very well known for their pandas), so huge that it was able to absorb all the effects of the quake, people could have been enjoying lives peacefully. Second, the panda signifies the rescuers, supporters, donators from everywhere, they work together to give the victims and the survivors peace.
In August 2007, a major earthquake devastated a number of Peruvian cities, including the city of Ica. This photograph was taken approximately four and half months after the earthquake at a school where we were building temporary structures to replace buildings that had been destroyed. These children’s class-room, built a few years earlier with donated funds, survived the earthquake, unlike those of their school-mates. Back Drop: / 18 Aug 2008 … The conflict has also rendered 158000 people homeless, according to ...................................WASHINGTON (CNN) Too many people are becoming homeless for different reasons in Bangladesh and across the world. / / Few lines form a love poem / ”... / At day’s end, like hush of dew / Comes evening. A hawk wipes the scent of sunlight fom its wings. / When earth’s colors fade and some pale design is sketched, / Then glimmering fireflies paint in the story. / All birds come home, all rivers, all of this life’s tasks finished. / Only darkness remains, as I sit there face to face with Banalata Sen. / From Banalata Sen By—Jibanananda Das / Translated by Clinton B. Seely. Footnote: / *I was trying to see this poem from a homeless point of view. A still life allegory. I was painting a traditional still life when China was hit by an earthquake earlier in the year. It moved me to change my painting. For details on how to purchase the original, please contact me.

We had a small earthquake a few days ago and I was inspired to play with one of my downtown shots. I love all the different architectural styles.

my newest print! this is loosely based off a dream i had not too long ago… i wrote about shortly after i had it, but for those who don’t know, here it is: this dream was something else, and the shark monsters were the last bit of tragedy in it… 1st there were massive earthquakes, followed by multiple volcanic eruptions… after the volcanos settled (keep in mind, i was in my home county, near my younger bro’s house, and there are no volcanos nearby), everyone was in shock and terrified at what was going on! thankfully we were on higher ground for what came next, for as i looked out to the sea, i saw a towering tidal wave racing ever towards us… i started shouting at everyone to get up and start running uphill!! ... we ran to the next block and turned left up another street, taking us ever higher up into the hills… i saw a big mansion with the front door ajar and led the people inside… we slammed and barred the door just as an onslaught of water came rushing by! as it grew quiet outside, i decided it was safe to open the door… i was not prepared for what i saw next, and even less prepared for what happened after… we waded out into waist deep water, water that was slowly moving back towards the sea… and with the water went the dead of those who didn’t survive the tidal wave… and then i noticed these people that had dorsal fin growths on their bodies, gills, and green gems studded all over their bodies… green trousers seemed to be the theme, some with gauntlets, others without… and they were all curled into fetal positions, drifting slowly back to the sea… when all of a sudden, in unison, their eyes flashed open! ... jumping up, they charged us and started shredding us to bits! i yelled for everyone to run back into the house, but unfortunately not everyone made it… and as the doors slammed shut once again, their dying screams bounced off the walls… soon afterwards, they started pounding the doors ferociously! the solid oak doors started splintering and buckling inwards… out of thin air, a sword appeared in my hands, and in less than 2 heartbeats i had the doors thrown open… charging, i started hacking these monsters in the necks, but boy was their skin tough! by luck, i found their weakness, a soft forehead… so without hesitation, i started killing them by the numbers! ... as my newest kill went down, 3 more jumped in front of the doorway, crossbows locked, loaded, and aimed right at me… 3 bolts tore into me, 2 in my gut and 1 in my left calf! staggering back in shock and pain, i looked down in disbelief at the arrows protruding from my body… the heads were trident shaped, and so i had to squeeze the 2 outer prongs together to yank them out! i pulled the 1 in my leg, and 1 from my gut out, but the 3rd was going to have to stay in for i feared i might bleed to death… ... after a bit, i started feeling somewhat distant and lacking focus… right then i knew the arrows were poisoned, but i didn’t let that tidbit distract me, as i couldn’t afford anymore distractions… with death not too far off, i threw back the hood of my cloak (which also magickally appeared), spread my arms, and walked out the door intent on bring my killers with me to deaths gate… and as my killers started to charge me, i felt this unquenchable urge, so strong was this unknown desire that it tore me from the scene before me… ... with a start i awoke, and jumped out of bed to go use the bathroom… the call of nature saved me from succumbing to my inevitable and utter death… after returning to bed and much needed sleep, i also returned to my dream… but gone were the shark monsters, gone were the flooded neighborhoods, though the damage wrought was still there… and, it seems, i survived my final showdown with these monsters from the deep, for there i stood all bandaged up, talking to other survivors about everything that led us to this point in my dream… and then i was wrenched from my much needed sleep 1 last time by my alarm clock… it was time to go to work… p.s.- this is also m 1st pic for drawing day 06.06.09…
