  • Little Earthquakes
    by pauldrobertson

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Named for a Tori Amos song thatmakes me cry pretty much every time. yeh, i know… i am SUCH a pussy heh. / I was still pretty down and not making any money. I was pretty insecure about this piece and didn’t show it until it had been framed for a couple of months. It is pretty much pure escapism, with darker undertones of course. / The girls don’t really exist, though I think that the place does, I found the pic of the tunnel on the net and got carried away adding my own stuff to it. / There is my left hand-print drawn into the light in the middle of the tunnel; starting a sort of trade mark with that I guess. / I do find solace in my work often, though it really is work and not play. This is a good example. It is somewhere, some elsewhere, a long way from where I was, dreamy surreal and dark. I love chiaroscuro and use it constantly, but why the hell not? The symbolism is a bit obvious now I think about it – “look there’s a light at the end of that there tunnel!” but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t really matter at all, does it?

  • This apartment building awaits demolition more than three months after an earthquake devastated Peru’s coastal city of Pisco on 15 August 2007. Dust still hangs in the air, giving an eery glow to the streets as daylight fades, a legacy of more 100,000 buildings that were destroyed or seriously damaged in the two minutes when the earth literally shook. Carlos, the taxi driver whose car can be seen in the base of this image went out of his way to show us this building. The house where he lived with his young son, a few miles from this spot, was one of the many that no longer stands. The halo around the lamp is an effect of the dust in atmosphere (and not a digital manipulation as some might think). Its visibility is enhanced by the slow shutter speed necessary to capture such an image as the sun had long since disappeared below the horizon. The building is truly leaning, a result of the earthquake that destroyed so much of this city, including the lives of four individuals who were in the lower floor (now destroyed) of this apartment building when the earth started to shake. All artists proceeds from sales of RedBubble cards and prints from this image will be used to assist Carlos and others who have lost their homes to rebuild. / This image was recently selected for exhibition in Melbourne’s Brunswick Street Gallery. It is also included in the America del Sur – 2009 Calendar, available here. / /

  • Shock Absorbing Panda
    by MissKoo

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This illustration was done for the quake survivors in Sichuan, China. The meaning of this illustration is two-fold: First, I imagine if there were a huge panda (Sichuan is very well known for their pandas), so huge that it was able to absorb all the effects of the quake, people could have been enjoying lives peacefully. Second, the panda signifies the rescuers, supporters, donators from everywhere, they work together to give the victims and the survivors peace.

  • Mussel Point
    by Ben Pacificar

    US$4.32–US$98.80

Location: Mussel Point Daly City / Technique: HDR (High Dynamic Range) / . / Featured in Group: / “Northern California Style” – March 8, 2009 / “A Beautiful Blur” – March 8, 2009 / . After watching an episode on the National Geographic channel on earthquakes, I was looking forward to shooting this location. But with bad luck lingering around me that day it sure made it difficult: / 1. Forgot the connecting plate for my ball head so I was about to go “3Podless” / 2. Desperately seeking a Photo shop in Frisco to purchase a new ballhead. / 3. Finding parking in Downtown Frisco was darn near impossible. / 4. Getting lost on my way to my 1st location tested my breaking point. / 5. And last but not least, removing my old ball head to install the new one took well over 30 mins. With the sun setting in the backround my mood for shooting that day was quickly diminishing. Mussel Point is located in Daly City just north of Pacifica along Highway 1. It is where the San Andreas fault line meets land and just runs straight down to Southern Kali.

  • I did this simple T in order to collect money for the rebuilding of schools in Sichuan. / I have spent some time in Deyang last year teaching, and found this to be a life changing experience. / With all things happening in China, we tend to forget that an average person has nothing to do with big politics, yet gets hit the most when a disaster happens. / Please buy a T and 100% of the proceeds and the names of all buyers will be passed directly to the effort of rebuilding Sichuan schools. The Writing reads “Help Si Chuan” (yuan zhu Si Chuan).

  • In August 2007, a major earthquake devastated a number of Peruvian cities, including the city of Ica. This photograph was taken approximately four and half months after the earthquake on the day that UNICEF organised a special activity day for the thousands of children who lived in Ica. The photograph was taken while we waited for transport to go the stadium where the festivities were being held. The day itself was all about fun and games and treats for the children but reality was rather sobering, that these children had lived through something more terrifying than most people will ever see in their lives, two and half minutes where the world literally shakes buildings to pieces. / / Location: Ica, Perú / Proceeds from sales of this image will be directed to Hands On Disaster Response This organisation provides assistance in disaster zones during the initial stages of the emergency. • Children of Ica
    by Elaine Stevenson

    US$4.99–US$114.00

In August 2007, a major earthquake devastated a number of Peruvian cities, including the city of Ica. This photograph was taken approximately four and half months after the earthquake at a school where we were building temporary structures to replace buildings that had been destroyed. These children’s class-room, built a few years earlier with donated funds, survived the earthquake, unlike those of their school-mates. Location: Ica, Perú / / All artist proceeds from sales of this image will be directed to Hands On Disaster Response This organisation provides assistance in disaster zones during the initial stages of the emergency. HODR volunteers arrived in Pisco shortly after the earthquake and were there, helping the people of Pisco, Ica, Chincha, Paracas and Cañete til January 2008.

  • The Birds Nest
    by Rabi Khan

    US$4.16–US$95.00

Back Drop: / 18 Aug 2008 … The conflict has also rendered 158000 people homeless, according to ...................................WASHINGTON (CNN) Too many people are becoming homeless for different reasons in Bangladesh and across the world. / / Few lines form a love poem / ”... / At day’s end, like hush of dew / Comes evening. A hawk wipes the scent of sunlight fom its wings. / When earth’s colors fade and some pale design is sketched, / Then glimmering fireflies paint in the story. / All birds come home, all rivers, all of this life’s tasks finished. / Only darkness remains, as I sit there face to face with Banalata Sen. / From Banalata Sen By—Jibanananda Das / Translated by Clinton B. Seely. Footnote: / *I was trying to see this poem from a homeless point of view. In “The Birds Nest” I see “darkness” as conflict, war, occupation, invading, global worming, natural digester, earthquake, tsunami, flood,—poverty, hunger, social injustice…(list could be more long) / -also a world, where a birds nest is not so safe. / But I have hope, see the lights…

  • Rua dos Bacalhoeiros
    by HELUA

    US$3.99–US$91.20

The white house covered in / “knobs” has beautifully / shaped pavements in front. / Somebody important must / have lived in it once.He also / had a sea view. I have now found out that it´s / called Casa dos Bicos and / was built by the Viceroy of / India in 1523, with some influence / from Italian architecture. It´s one / of few buildings that still stood after / the catastrophic earthquake / in Lisbon on November 1st 1755, / that graded 9 on the Richter scale! I´ve also found out that the first / Viceroy of India was Vasco da Gama / and that he died in Calicut in 1524, / so it´s likely that it was his successor / who came to live here.

  • On August 15, 2007 an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale devastated the Peruvian city of Pisco, and the surrounding areas. Over 650,000 people were affected by the disaster, which left more than 100,000 people homeless. / / Many of the homes, including this one in Paracas, a small city about 15 minutes by road from Pisco, were built of a local mudbrick known as ‘adobe’. Many of the structures which remained standing after the earthquake needed to be demolished, including this one. / / The volunteers in this image were working with Hands On Disaster Response and came to Pisco specifically to help people who’d been affected by earthquake. Day after day, week after week, month after month, they cleared the rubble from the fallen buildings and helped demolish those which were no longer safe and needed to be removed. These same volunteers also helped to build temporary houses and classrooms and assisted other agencies in many different projects. / / Volunteers came from many countries, and those in this picture alone were from Canada, the USA, New Zealand and England. / / / All artist proceeds from sale of this work will be donated to Hands On Disaster Response.
