Silver pencil and charcoal drawing on A1 brown paper. / Well we were asked to go for a walk in the little section of land beside our art department to get an idea for a land art sculpture to be made of materials on site. there’s a small unused parking lot of blue metal rocks in this area which most would think makes the space an eyesore. I immediately thought how cool it would be to make what looked like water out of the unexpected material of rock. Like zen gardens use rakes to make the sand rippled like water. So this is what I plan to make in the space.

This is part of a series of shots taken by a friend of mine working in Libya by the name of Matt Hagan (very cool man with a passion for everything he can get his hands on). Rabaul Harbour at the base of the Tuvurvur Volcano. The colouring is caused by iron oxide leaching from the rocks into the salt water. If anyone can describe this process more accurately or in more detail, please leave a comment on this page.

One of a series painted and exhibited of Uluru, Alice Springs. Inspired from a trip to Central Australia. French Paint on Silk. There’s more beauty and simply awe inpsiring things to see along with aboriginal sacred sites when you walk around the rock. The local Uluru indigenous community request that visitors respect the sacred status of Uluru by not climbing the rock, with signs posted to this effect. In 1983 the former Prime Minister of Australia, Bob Hawke, promised to respect the request from the community that climbing Uluru be prohibited, but broke his promise when title was handed to the traditional owners in 1985 because access for tourists to climb Uluru was made a condition before they could receive the title. The climb crosses an important dreaming track, which has been a cause of sadness and distress among traditional owners.

Some interesting Info: / Gansbaai is situated on the Whale coast and is often referred to as the Big 2 Town – Southern Right whales, which visit her shore from July to November, and the Great White Sharks, which can be viewed from a boat departing Gansbaai harbour year round. However Gansbaai attractions have much more to offer than just the viewing of these two magnificent creatures – Gansbaai is a mosaic of different habits of the remarkable Cape Floral Kingdom, ancient indigenous forest, agricultural lands, vineyards, flower – farms and rural communities. / The Greater Gansbaai area is made up of smaller towns each with their own unique character / De Kelders – is the Afrikaans name for the “the caves” and numerous large and small caves penetrate deep into the rock formations under the houses. Many of these can be visited – the Drup Kelder and the Klipgat Caves being two examples. / Gansbaai is the centre of the area where the majority are the businesses are situated.
