A Lonely Planet In the Middle of Nothingness
by The wizard of edIt was March 2005, somewhere near St Kilda....
It was March 2005, somewhere near St Kilda. I was sitting in a room, on a sofa propped on milk crates, staring at the ceiling. Around my neck was a Philadelphia collar and in my hand was a bottle of gin. The collar was the only sign that I had recently broken my C1, 2 & T1 the gin was to stop me thinking about it. I was staring at the ceiling because it was reasonably tricky to stare anywhere else. I sat quietly contemplating my future. Next to me was a chap called Christopher Lansell, Crispy to his comrades, whom I’d known about 8 minutes. He started talking about some things, wild, imaginative things, I started to reply, and back he came with more, this went on quite successfully for a while. One of these crazy things was an idea he’d been playing with to install a 1:1 billion scale model of the Solar System somewhere in Melbourne. It seemed quite a good idea to me. Almost without any warning at all it was 9am on December 10 of that year, my return ticket to the UK forgotten in the back of a drawer somewhere, and 6 months out of date, my neck visible to all who cared to glance. I’m crouched at the door to our St Kilda studio, attempting to drill a hole into Pluto, except this Pluto is only 2mm in diametre, which makes it very tricky. And in half an hour it’s meant to be on a plinth somewhere near Port Melbourne. / / / / Building the Sun Having drummed up some media interest through an interview on ABC radio and an article in The Age and spent a few months constructing the Sun and nine planets by hand we were actually within minutes of taking our disjointed conversation live. / / / / / Painting the Planets / Planet bases Pluto / Mars / Neptune / Saturn / Jupiter / Having finally secured Pluto to it’s stand, we threw all the models in the back of a trailer and hightailed it to the beach, as we roared along the approach to the marina there was a sudden, and slightly sickening crunch. Crispy braked, we looked at each other in silent fear, then out through the back window of the Toyota. Rolling down the road in the vague direction of Acland Street was a 1.39m golden ball of plywood and satin. Hmmm. We exited the car at speed and, to the amusement of the residents, sprinted off after the star. It was not entirely unscathed, but it was still presentable, and anyway, we were out of time. The weekend was long and disgustingly hot, but the model was a success, large numbers of families turned up on their bikes, with their children, The Age article folded in their pockets, planning to ride the full 6km route to Pluto. And being mid summer the beach and passing traffic was plentiful. Seeing kids stand under the 1.28cm hand painted sphere that was Earth (I even managed to dust the Himalayas with some snow) and point out Australia before running 150m to the Sun and smacking it with their ice cream stained hands was quite rewarding. / Earth, a man with a beard & the Moon, which is as far as Man has ever actually travelled, allegedly. (But not the man with the beard, he may have been no further than Geelong, I don’t know) Mars / The Sun / / / By Sunday night we were knackered but content. Then things started getting interesting. Tony Wheeler, co-founder of Lonely Planet rang us up, said he’d heard about the project but had been out of the country and wondered if he could come and see the models, we, unsurprisingly said yes. Then the council rang us up and said they’d had a lot of calls from the general public asking when they were going to do the project again. They said they hadn’t done it in the first place. It was about this point that words like ‘permanent’ began to appear in conversations. We found a sculptor, Cameron Robbins, an eccentric and extremely talented man based in Collingwood, and commenced talks with the council. It was estimated at costing around $70,000, and so the tedious process of money raising became the focus, Tony pledged a large sum of his personal finances, as did some universities. Things looked good. Then the university pulled out, and we experienced our first wedge of bureaucratic council red tape. Things look bad. And that high and low was a microcosm of how it progressed for the next two years. With a hefty focus on the ‘This is just never going to happen’ line of thought. But now, three years and six months after a conversation on a sofa in St Kilda, there are some people down at the foreshore tidying up the metre high bluestone plinths the planets rest on, and no doubt someone polishing the 360kg of bronze that makes up the Sun, in preparation for the opening on September 21. And I’m going to miss it, because I’m in London, so if you have nothing better to do please pop down to the reserve north of the Marina at 4.45, take some photos, get yourself an epic sense of how fragile and unique Earth really is and give Crispy some support for the endless phone calls and meetings and rolls and rolls of tape he’s deftly sliced through. Pouring the bronze Planets / Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus cooling off / Half of the Sun / All of the Sun / Polishing the Sun / The sculptor Cameron Robbins next to polished Sun / Saturn / Venus, Mars, Earth, Mercury & Pluto (yeah it’s not a planet anymore, but it was then) / Pouring concrete base for the Sun / Diamond saw cutting bluestone plinths for the planets / Plinths being lifted into place / / The Sun being moved into place / / / / Model Location / And if you ever see anyone chasing an enormous shining sphere down a road, go and give them a hand.

Sometimes, in order to preserve myself and feel in control, I just have to shut out the wider world for a while… make it a little smaller and more manageable so that I can see where I fit into it, instead of getting lost within it, and then things don’t feel quite so overwhelming. The wider world with all of it’s seemingly out of control problems can wait for a while, it’ll still be there when I’m ready to fit back into it again, in the meantime, I’m going to take a small bite of it, roll it around on my tongue and appreciate its flavour, lol, kind of like going on an earth diet and digesting smaller portions of bigger problems. Sometimes it’s just nice to assume a lower profile, to sit back quietly and let go of the reigns to see where the ride takes you, leastwise, that’s where I’m sitting right now… The world is the size of my bedroom, I’ll confront it one room at a time.

LIES PERCEPTIONS AND BELIEFS BY RL HALL AND LINAJI A collaboration of loving work between rlhall & linaji – Webs & Layers Your Spiritual side is wise, intuitive, creative, loving, compassionate, peaceful, forgiving, always aspiring to truth and goodness – or – your life is lived in confusion, anger, and perhaps, even, layers of lies and deceit.” ~ Dr. John Sarno, The Divided Mind “If you cannot find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it?” / ~ Dogen “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” ~ Antoine Saint-Exupéry “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.” ~ William Blake _“Believe that your life is worth living, and your belief will create the fact.” ~ William James Acceptance ~ Robert Frost When the spent sun throws up its rays on cloud / And goes down burning into the gulf below, / No voice in nature is heard to cry aloud / At what has happened. Birds, at least must know / It is the change to darkness in the sky. / Murmuring something quiet in her breast, / One bird begins to close a faded eye; / Or overtaken too far from his nest, / Hurrying low above the grove, some waif / Swoops just in time to his remembered tree. / At most he thinks or twitters softly, ‘Safe! / Now let the night be dark for all of me. / Let the night be too dark for me to see / Into the future. Let what will be, be.’_ _Layers of Beliefs I have unfurled my wisdom / And before me / I only know / Truths / That have been born and branded / By my hand / How can it be any other way? I have heard and have been told / Of / About / Yours… / But My core is the listener / The one who knew before the knowing / Or of the Telling We are parted now.. / maybe for 4 years or 10 / Maybe it is not again But the knowing you / Was like a root plant / Better left in the shade of its’ own calling Than to open to the sun of my smile / Or yours. Past Lives are just that, / Past.. The Now that pulsates and thrives Has been dropped from view.. It is no longer about you Time for a new lesson Time for a new view._ Thank You Everyone, espically RL Hall for linking into my heart and for setting up most of this show.. her finding the amazing quotes from our favorite poets and leaders made the core of our work shine!! What a pleasure this collaboration was between us!

There are very few causes I get behind, but one of them is educating each another about what we as a race are doing to the earth. God Created The Heavens And The Earth

When I create my dragons from the land of Bryce I am always reminded of the world religions class I took in college. One day we had a very interesting discussion about the soul. It was very interesting to hear other people’s views on this subject. When the Bible says that God created man in His own image, what do you think of? Does that mean our physical appearance, or that God gave us a soul? The heavens are a vast and endless place. We are just a life form that is a drop in the bucket here on earth. Since we are unable to explore the vastness of space, how do we know that there isn’t other life forms out there? One must remember that we are a soul with a body and not a body with a soul. So when judgement day comes are you going to be shocked if you see other life forms on this day? Physical appearance is just that. It’s the soul that matters. What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.

I believe the journey of the artist … / A RedBubble Journal Entry by C.C. Arshagra I believe the journey of the artist, or the journey of life and soul’s becoming is as honest as each moment admits the whole truth of all you do and do not know with bliss. It is not the pain of failures seen in self or others. It is every moment of ” ... aaah” (Not, oh-me oh-my). So to here accept the gift is now I see who I was. And now I see who I may be. These fallings (And not pain or failures—so to speak) are lessons. Soul lessons that will mold the constant choices you are and will be. And this may be all that is true. True through all you do, think, feel, say and create. I honestly feel this to be each living beings living karma. It is the listening you give to life is within you are receiving it. And it is within the creating of you are now life’s giving in return. And this true are you to all life from this instant to every next one. I believe this is to understand and live here. These falling moments are as important as success, if not more so. I believe they happen more and not less as time goes onward toward becoming the soul understanding of self. To become you are peace of mind here. Now residing presently within the core of your intelligent emotional soul being. I believe those who live to soul control others, keep and own greed, and lie to wield all painful kingdoms of sorrow are children. And all they destroy in their wake will be their becoming death’s wait for they truly do not know what they’re not. The frequency of these fallings may increase and not decrease in this same change of time to time. This may continue so until the frequency is constant. Until your soul and art form of living is constantly here and true throughout your time, And through all the art you lived to create when this life of being form ends. I believe the journey of the artist, or the journey of life and soul’s becoming is honesty, patience, humility, and all that it means to parent life, feel joy, and laugh no matter how silently you do. And oh to understand the moving of alive that transpires when a tear becomes a happy one. Falling. C.C. Gaia The Living Planet In The Moment Of Creation

In celebration of the choice of theme that RedBubble have chosen for their current competition (which secretly I believe was my overwhelming obsession for myth subliminally working the pipes of thought), it is right and proper for us all to bow down and worship that who we as a creative force are most inspired by. I have no statistics but an overwhelming number of artists find creativity in the earth, nature and the Great Mother herself. Gaia (or Gaea, Ge, Terra, Tellus and many other epithets for Earth) was the matriachal basis of religion in the ancient times and still transposes her all encompassing influence throughout religion, art, society and politics. The strong Mother figure as a creative energy for all to understand as the primal Earth force resonating from the Genesis. Greek myth atones for existence by recounting the stories of the evolution of the forces of creation and nature through a personification of survival, battle and dramatic (often melodramatic) saga. Great poets such as Homer, Hesiod and Aristophanes recount in verse the struggles of the forces of the light to separate from the forces of the dark. The misty spiritual spell that forms the magic of the world and universe we are all a part of. Each stage and interaction of chemistry and physics creating a fractal drama that would offshoot into a war one moment, the creation of the music of the lyre another, the worst sexual perversions followed by the most just of tortures in the misty, marshy Underworld. Gaea, no matter how far down the generational line of gods and goddesses the action was, is always honoured as the divine creative mother, which makes the competition theme even more relavent in that the notion of Gaea as a living breathing organism is so relevant in the environmental times of today. There have been massive scientific studies of the environment undertaken in the past with the very same theme. Gaea the Earth Mother along with her partner Ouranos (Heaven and Sky) are credited with the parentage of all who exist in the realm of Earth consciousness, but they were not the only Protogenoi (immortal creation spirits) to emerge from the magical bang. As the story of the creation of the cosmos goes in ancient Greek myth… The first born formed the very fabric of the universe, the mesh by which all creation is suspended, Protogenoi literally means first born in Greek. Most of them were purely elemental in form, in that they were quite literally Earth, Air, Fire and Water, however a few were described in anthropomorphic form, particualarly those spirits bound to their physical and native environment. Gaea herself emerged at the beginning of creation to from the foundation of the Universe. One of the few depicted in anthropomorphic form she was still however shown as a woman partially risen from the ground, inseparable from her element… Gaea’s siblings and children were thus spawned… Aether – the a primeval god of the mists of light which fill the upper atmosphere. Ananke – the goddess of necessity, compulsion and inevitability. She was incorporeal (spirit and not matter) and of serpentine form. She cracked open the world egg in the necessity of creation. Erebos – the immortal god of the mists of darkness which fill the upper atmosphere. His darkness was sunk into the Earth and surrounded the Underworld. Eros (not to be confused with the Eros of future generations) – god of generation. Also known as Phanes, he was the ‘driving’ force which drove the Universe into a creative frenzy. As the Immortal god of generation, the creator god, he sprung forth from the silver egg of creation at the beginning of time and set the order of the Universe. Hemera – the personification of Day, rose from the ends of Earth to scatter the darkness of Night, she was spread throughout the heavens by her Mother Nyx to allow the blue of Aether to shine on the Earth. Hydros – Water. Together with Earth they formed mud and was usually equated with the Titan god of fresh water Okeanos. Khaos – goddess of the lower air. She filled the gap between Aether in the upper air and the Earth floor. She was the mother of the other airs Erebos, Nyx, Aether and Hemera. Khronos – the immortal god of time was the first being to emerge at creation in self. He was incorporeal and was attributed with 3 heads and a serpent’s tail and circled the whole of creation. The Nesoi – The islands and rocky forms that break from the earth to protrude from the sea. Nyx – the Night. She would draw the mists of her consort Erebos over the heavens to make it dark. She was depicted as a woman with a star encrusted mantle. Okeanos – The great Earth encircling fresh water river. From him flow every river, spring and rain bearing cloud. He was a horned man with a serpentine fish instead of legs. Ouranos – The solid dome of Heaven. His form stretches from one horizon to the other, he sprung from Gaea at creation. The Ourea – The mountains, born of the Earth. Phusis – The Protogenos of nature. Mother Nature was a different spirit to Gaea and encompasses the collective spirit of creation on Earth. Pontos – The primal god of the salty sea born of Gaea. Tartaros – The Protogenos of the stormy fire pit which lay beneath the crust of the Earth. Tethys – The goddess of the flow of fresh water throughout the Earth. The form of nourishment for all of Mother Nature. Thalassa – The goddess of the surface of the sea. The tention that keeps the water liquid and separate. Born of Aether and Hemera, she mixed with the deep waters of Pontos the sea. Thesis – The Protogenos of creation itself. The goddess of all that came forth from the moment of creation itself.

Yes, I felt the earth move today as I was at my job just outside a tilt up building. I felt I was lifted up a foot and the big trucks looked like King Kong was rocking them hard. It was a blast actually. Put a smile on my face. 5.4 located in Chino Hills 15 miles away. It was a fissure or a fault that slipped beneath the surface, or the thought of the woman who has given me a sense of purpose. Whatever it was, my spirit has been raised and I am still in a daze. : )

Hi everyone :) I’m really busy at the moment adding my photography to Google Maps. It’s nearly beyond me but I think I am getting there slowly. One of the main reasons I am doing this is because I put a full page advert in the local paper here the other day and I wanted to give locals an idea of exactly where the photos were taken (just felt like it might add interest to those that know the area). At the moment it is a tedious task for me and is keeping me pretty busy, but at the same time I would love a little feedback and maybe some help as well ;) If you want to see what I have done on Google Maps right now (just Kellerberrin and surrounds at the moment) have a look HERE If you have Google Earth and would like to sit back and see a guided tour of where I have taken these photos, right click and saveTHIS file to your harddrive, then run it and it should open up in Google Earth for you, then just press Play and fly around all the locations :) You need to have Google Earth installed on your puter to be able to use it, if you want to download it use this LINK (15MB) If anyone is a little more savvy with either GM’s or GE’ and can think of something I can do to make this loot more presentable I would love your help. For others, your feedback on what you think would be very much appreciated. I would hate to be wasting my time doing this if it’s sorta worthless. Thanks :) :)
