This is a collaborative transatlantic entry between myself and the incredibly talented and totally awesome billyboy in Belgium for RedBubbles Gaia – The Living Planet competition. Now, I’m not a religious person, but I wanted to illustrate by using billyboys Noah’s Ark image that if we dont start taking care of this planet we are living on I truly / believe we will be in for a disaster of biblical proportions. All that is beautiful and wondrous will simply disappear… like so many ephemeral bubbles. We are all interconnected, and we must find our harmony with Gaia, or risk losing it all. Many thanks to billyboy for sharing my vision, and giving so generously of his time, blood, tears and love to bring this vision into glorious life. Concept: Rhana / Background artwork: Billyboy / Art within the bubbles: Rhana / Bubble creation: Billyboy / Design: Rhana / Title Inspiration: Billyboy For those interested in buying the totally hawt tee of this image its now available over at billyboys place. Proceeds from sales of the tee go to the STV Foundation.

This artwork was featured in Sold! One of my first autobiographical pieces. My childhood seed / has finally bloomed / amid the tangled brambles of a forest / confused / by distorted shadows / and I struggle to push back / this oppressive canopy. / Here I stand on the banks / of a world that was once so beautiful. / In this frenzy of growing up / I had almost forgotten the untroubled sleep / of innocent dreams / and those moments laced with magic / only children are divine enough to recognize. / For a moment / I can only stand in the silence / and breathe the fragrant bliss / of absolute stillness. / For a moment / I know that the world I remember / was never really as magical / as wonderful / as I had once believed. / It was only the projection of naïveté / and make believe / but there / upon the horizon / I saw such a world / so far beyond my reach. / The burdens of age were forgotten / and fell away / and, for a moment / I was a child / again. Info for Sold! Group / Sold a small laminated print to an RB member. Poem Copyright /

To better see this work, select option view larger Digital Art: Planet earth gives birth to the Alaskan mountain range. The total beauty of Alaska and its people is a passion of mine. / I just sold ten cards of the “Birth of Alaska.” / I am grateful to the buyer and to Redbubble for making it possible Note: All my digital art work is executed entirely with my mouse and Photoshop Elements’ brushes. It takes hours of concentration, patience and self control. Especially when the mouse wants to go right and you need it to go left! *When this happens , I reluctantly leave my office and go for a stroll in my garden. / That usually takes care of the problem and then, I get back to work :) *

Ge 1:14: ¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: / Ge 1:15: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. / Ge 1:16: And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. / Ge 1:17: And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, / Ge 1:18: And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. / Ge 1:19: And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. / _____ Job 26:7: He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. / _____ Ps 33:6: By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. / Ps 33:7: He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. / Ps 33:8: Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. / Ps 33:9: For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. / ____ I used a drawing of the Earth. I had a dream, / A dream so profound / That written words could not express it, / Only tears; / No verbal language could convey it, / Only visions. / This dream spoke in music, it played out in light, / It flickered and danced in emotional tremors / That originated from a source beyond the heart. It manifested within me but not of me / And hovered freely beyond me. / Elusive, I tried to grasp its full meaning, / But could only see it when I closed my eyes, / I could only feel it, when I let it go. / The dream had wings and I felt / The rush of air as it lifted me. We were as we were meant to be – / Released from the heavy chains of our humanity, / Risen above the petty materialism and power struggles / That we once thought defined us. / We had relinquished the ironies of our need for separation from others / That wrestled constantly with our deepest yearning for belonging and unity, / We had softened into our connection with the Earth / And felt her heartbeat as our own, / We had begun to tread more tenderly upon the face of / The one who sustains us, / And remembered again, / To honour the beauty that she held up in her mirror. / Our recognition grew in the knowing that what we saw in our world / Was but a reflection of what we held inside, / Of Who we truly are, / And that the choice between fear and love was our very own, / Not the whim of a distant God. In this moment, we had grown wings, / And through the very lightness of our awakening…. / We had reached beyond our human limitations / And soared free.

Nat Tyler and Agent Provocateur have asked What’s your vision for the future? in a weekend T-shirt design challenge. The year 2258? It’s pretty hard for me to imagine a bright future right now. The lure of hover cars and pretty much everything we were promised in Back to the Future II is far outweighed by the thought that we’re pretty well fucked. What did we do with all that oil, all that coal, all those resources? We burned it.

Once they all believed in dragons / When the world was fresh and young, / We were woven into legends, / Tales were told and songs were sung, / We were treated with obeisance, / We were honored, we were feared, / Then one day they stopped believing / On that day, we disappeared. / Now they say our time is over, / Now they say we’ve lived our last, / Now we’re treated with derision / Where once we ruled unsurpassed. / We must make them all remember, / In some way we must reveal / That our spirit lives forever— / We are dragons!
